    Here is some extra info about the music video... Director Um Tae Hwa released a guide explaining the MV and gave 4 Key points.
    First, the "cube" signified the discrimination and oppression that are prevalent in the daily lives of the main characters.
    Second, the "camcorder" represents the "lens of love," an important "device" that allows us to look at the beautiful things in the world beyond the internal or external appearance of the characters.
    Third, IU and BTS V became the main characters in a "survival story of a dystopian worldview of someone who cannot speak and sees the world only through his left eye." Despite the difficulty, feeling hurt and exhausted, they relied on each other despite "cube" and tried to overcome it in the end.
    Fourth and last, the "wedding dress and tuxedo" symbolize the "fruit of love." At the end where they are seen rising in the air, it depicts that they are finally "free to fly away from all kinds of oppression and pressure."
    Have a wonderful day💜
    Ps.. BTS does have songs with key changes.... 😅you have soooo many songs still to hear.

      The comment I wrote discrediting the narrative you have I was going to post as a reply to your comment. But I decided to post it as a direct comment not a reply to yours because more people will see it. But I hope you read it . If you can find the actual link to the director's guide (not the article that claims the director posted a guide) please provide me the link. For I have never seem it anywhere or even seem it referred to anywhere except the one article. I have to wonder if the author of that article somehow read something by the director about his movie Concrete Utopia which did have that as a sub theme.

    I am 72 years old. Several years ago I experienced an emotional trauma that stole music from me. I stopped listening to anything because it made be incredibly, unbearably sad. Then my daughter introduced me to BTS. Through them I have regained a huge part of my life. I guess this sounds dramatic, but there are many stories like mine. I watch their non music stuff too. If you want to see a little of their personalities, watch their appearances on The Tonight Show, Late Night With James Cordon and others. They are so much fun. The oldest videos are amazing and they were so very young. Welcome to the Army.

      I'm so sorry for whatever it is you went through and can certainly empathize. Honestly, it doesn't sound dramatic. Music is, quite literally, the soundtrack to our lives! So many memories are tied to a song. That's why we have wedding songs!
      There's so much I need to see. All 7 guys seem down to earth and I really need to peel back the curtain and see more of who they are.

      @@ReactionsThatRock Hi the handsome actor in this MV is called Kim Taehyung. It's good that you don't even recognize him but still appreciate his amazing acting. But if you've listened to BTS and you didn't recognize V or Taehyung, you got to listen to Taehyung's solo songs Singularity, Stigma, his latest album named Layover which was chosen by Billboard as the 2nd best Kpop album in 2023. Give these R&B and jazz songs Love Me Again, Slow Dancing, Blue, For Us and Rainy Days in Layover a listen. This album is regarded as a not-to-be-missed by Army

      I missed it in full the first time as my focus goes back and forth between the captions and the full video. I saw hand gestures but thought it was more about moving silently (like how navy seals use motions). Watched it again earlier today and really picked up on it this time.

    IU is a very popular and beloved singer/actress in South Korea. I mainly know her from her dramas.
    I cried when I first watched this MV (late January). The last of the guys had just enlisted over a month prior (early December), including V, and so seeing him again was emotional, not to mention the story itself tugged at your heartstrings. The guys left us so many gifts to keep us company while they are away. The next gift on the schedule is from J-hope, which will be a dance documentary "Hope on the Street" with an OST album (with a collab with Neil Rodgers) coming out in late March.
    IU and V sound beautiful together too. They sang her song "Ending Scene", another beautiful piano ballad, when V was a guest on her talkshow "IU's Palette". They're close friends in real life.
    IU and J-hope also sang together on her show, her song "Pierrot Laughs at Us" and his song "Equal Sign". Love both performances.
    IU and Suga are great friends as well, and have two collaborations "eight" (where he featured, co-wrote, and produced) and "People Pt. 2" (a softer side of Agust D). Both songs have MVs, live performances, and both have won awards.
    IU was a guest on Suga's talkshow too, called "Suchwita". Suga enlisted in September last year, but recorded a bunch of Suchwita episodes before enlisting, which were released slowly over several months. The last episode was posted just a couple of days ago on Monday 😭I miss them.

      Ok… my biggest takeaway here is that I still have soooooooo much to see and listen to!!! Thank you so much for all of this info!!!
      Also… my mom LOVES Pentatonix but I thought they just did Christmas stuff. I’ll have to check out that song… which sounds like something from the Lion King?!

    • @biru-kelabu-0821
      @biru-kelabu-0821 10 місяців тому +4

      @@ReactionsThatRock- Yep, it's a cover. They do a lot of other things other than Christmas music. Including a cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody"! Imagine, a rock song by an a capella group. But they did it justice.
      Their Grammy-winning songs are incredible as well. "Daft Punk", "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy", and "Jolene" with Dolly Parton. When the Grammys changed their category just to give you a Grammy, you must be doing something right!

      @@ReactionsThatRock I love Pentatonix. I went to their show in Prague last year. They have original music and definitely a lot of other covers that aren't Christmas music, but yeah, they're best known for the Christmas stuff. I like you and reiterate your thoughts on new western music (for the most part). I'm a 60's Boomer and proud, Silver ARMY. BTS had reinvigorated my love of music, and equally spurred a growth in my intellectual curiosity. It has opened me up to other cultures and had enriched my life in many untold ways.

    • @ReactionsThatRock
      @ReactionsThatRock  10 місяців тому +4

      I once asked my (Boomer) dad when he stopped listening to current music... he told me it was when he couldn't relate to it anymore. I never thought that would happen yet I found myself in a cycle of late 90's and early 2000's rock/pandora playlists. That's actually why I started this channel... to break out of my little musical cage!

    • @rebeccabuxton1324
      @rebeccabuxton1324 8 місяців тому

      Me too. I lost interest in music as I couldn't relate to it at all anymore except an occasional one. My daughter introduced me to BTS and I assumed they would be a Korean version of Back Street Boys. As a rock and metalhead I never thought I would like them. I was so very wrong. Each of their songs makes you learn something new, whether it be cultural, internal, self reflection, and so on. I have read books that have inspired their lyrics and thoughts, I am learning Korean, I am more thoughtful if others and I now work a lot harder. They are so inspirational and comforting. It is like gaining a wider family, having 7 more children that I am so proud of, and ARMY as a huge friendship/support group 💜

    Per the video director, the main characters are disabled in some way- IU is either deaf or mute, V is blind in one eye. The boxes are symbolic of society attempting to place the disabled into boxes so to eliminate them from the world either by ignoring them or putting them into a place where they can't be seen.

    As a Canadian born in the 60's I've had the pleasure of getting exposed to A LOT of music that would be on the radio (way back when) from all over. I remember 'Rock Me Amadeus' from FALCO. It was mostly in German but it was still a banger. I even remember seeing an mv and song from Epik High (a Korean group) back when it came out and thought it was really good. And these things were a part of our mainstream media.
    It's easy for others to not realize how insulated the American Music market is and how little exposure they (Americans) get to music that is not fed to them from the American music industry.
    There is so much good music in the world it just needs people to listen.
    PS: The name of the cube is 'Nemo' and it represents the boxes that we try to put people into. Not just people with difficulties but people as a whole.

    Ah! Sorry! I didn't think to tell you how to pronounce Tannies when I commented it. >.< I take for granted that people don't just know how to say things. You're right, it's TAN-knees. It comes from the latter part of Bangtan. Which in English most pronounce how it's spelled. However in the Korean pronunciation, the B has a P sound. So it's like Pang-tan. The sound in Pang is closer to the sound of Pong (like ping-pong) than it is like bang. Sonyeondan is like so-nyun-dan, the dan sounds more like 'tan' than the hard "d" sound you'd expect and a long a like when you go to the dentist and say ahh. I don't know if I explained that well. I wish I could just say it out loud to you. lmao.
    IU is a powerhouse. She's a national treasure in Korea. She has two collabs with Suga, Eight (on her album) and People pt.2 (On Suga's D-Day album- which is under Agust D) Suga, J-Hope and V have all been on IU's Palette, where they have an interview and preform together. I love all three of their episodes, it's really nice. If you're into shows and interviews, I recommend those episodes as well as Suchwita (Suga's show).

    I love that you took the time to share with us your preconceptions about going on this journey into music outside of your preferred genre. I grew up in the States listening to pop, rock, metal, and grunge, but I sang jazz and classical. Often I sang in foreign languages like German, Italian, Latin, Hebrew, French, and even Russian. So the Korean language was not what I expected to have trouble absorbing. Anyway, I enjoyed you sharing how you've grown so far in the journey. 💜

      Thanks so much for the kind words!!! I was in a kids choir when I was younger and we learned church songs in Latin and Christmas songs in just about every language there is but then I grew older, found a guitar and chased girls and all that intro to world music was gone in a flash.
      Urgh… if only I’d known.

    I came into BTS 2016-17. Back then, even earlier, there seemed like there was an epidemic of Videos that had girls in bikini's, twerking around the pool. Men with big chains & and magnums of champagne. The first few videos were fun to watch but then everyone was doing a variation on that video. BTS brought us in to film making and real story lines with their videos. I believe that BTS videos, helped to improve American videos and I say that because of what I've heard American celebrities say.

    IU is a master at key changes, many of her songs have the key changes that you can’t imagine how they go together but she makes them work beautifully every time! IU her own genre since her songs are so diverse and she writes Manet of her songs and compose and produce som of the too! IU always comes out with completely different songs even within same album as you can see as this one does too. IU’s songs and MV’s have so many hidden meanings and they are like Easter eggs because you it’s fun to find those hidden meanings! IU started 5 years before BTS debuted and BTS is also so much like her and that’s why IU & BTS are two favorite artists!

      @ReactionsThatRock  10 місяців тому

      That's exciting! In case you couldn't tell, I'm a HUGE fan of key changes when they serve the story. Country music does it a lot, but it often feels obligatory rather than purposeful and rock music rarely does it (and when they do, it's often sloppy). I'll still say Death Metal owns the key change game, but they also have likely the fewest people ever hearing it. :-)

    What you had before was xenophobia, the fear or apprehension of touching into something of a foreign language. Thank you for opening up and overcoming this. Still so many people are playing into the narrative that they will not enjoy music from a different language.
    I heard this from a reactor previously about ballads. Many people hate ballads because of the emotionality of the song. I admit their are some that goes over the top that it makes you cringe. But ballads is where you can truly showcase a singer's vocal abilities. There is no hiding from it, if you use autotune, it will be very obvious. With other genres, like pop, rock, hiphop, you can hide those vocal inabilities with catchy beats and loud music, but not in ballads. You have to have an above average vocal ability to truly shine in a ballad. The only genre I can think of where you cannot run from bad vocals is opera lol.

    • @ReactionsThatRock
      @ReactionsThatRock  10 місяців тому +4

      I honestly don’t dislike ballads… in fact, rock has many MANY ballads that are phenomenal (from Journey, to Meat Loaf, to Maiden and even G&R). They are emotional though and it takes a special singer to pull them off! Much easier to hide average singling behind a crunch guitar and a few screaming lyrics!
      As for xenophobia, I wouldn’t take it that far. There was no dislike or cultural distaste, it was really more of an ignorance to what existed outside the mainstream spoon-fed media.
      It’s like going to a buffet knowing you LOVE the chicken so you simply never try the fish. 🐠 ✌️
