    Hey Alan,
    I know this question is a bit unrelated to tuna trolling lol but when trolling for trout in a kayak, how far out behind do you cast your lure.
    Thanks in adance!

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Рік тому

      Hey James, when trolling on the yak for tuna i tend to only use 1 rod 2 max as it can get a tad dangerous and chaotic. I usually have one about 50 meters behind me and the other about 20 meters. Sometimes it depends what your trolling get a skirt or lure and also what speeds you can get up to as my kayak gets up to about a max of 5 kilometres which can make it tough going to get the right action on the lures

    Wow Alan what an amazing day some awesome fish great job!! So awesome the double hook ups! Also quick question if u don’t mind , I recently learned how to tie the fg knot and all was going great till the other day. After casting for a while my fg knot all frayed and then broke. After that I retie the fg knot again even tho I was worried it might fray again, then when I was casting my main line snapped, didn’t think much about it.. after I retie my line snaps again! I have a look at my guides and there’s a big chip on the inside of my guide so I’m guessing the fg knot has chipped my guide. Is this normal or what cause I don’t know, I had only been using the fg knot for a couple of days as well I’m a bit worried to use fg knot again… thanks in advance. Also sorry if this doesn’t make much sense

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Рік тому +1

      That's really unusual. The FG knot is usually the most thinnest and because of that the least likely to damage any guides when under extreme pressure. There are some great vids on youtube and even in the FishingMad members area on FG knots. Ive often found they come undone because the wraps went done tight enough and the tightening after the first knot after the wraps weren't secured tight enough. The lines need to pinch into each other to hold. In the meantime you can always use a double uni if your rods have guides big enough. I hope that helps.

    • @JJFishingCrazy
      @JJFishingCrazy Рік тому +1

      Hey Alan thanks for the reply, I am a member and I did have a look at the fg knot on ur members but yer I did find with ur fg knot it was slipping and well yer I now know why it was slipping because it wasn’t tight enough. At the start I tried the double uni knot but my guides are to small, it’s only a 1-4kg rod so yeah. Do u think a leader is a must have when ur using a rig, can u tie the rig straight to the braid? Also when ur using a rig like ur gummy shark rig would the running sinker clip fray ur braid if I was to tie my braid straight to the rig since the clip would be on the braid? Btw love the member content such helpful information! Thanks so much for helping me out :)

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Рік тому +1

      FG knots can be really difficult when using finesse gear. Tying them when using 4-10lb braid and leader can be really challenging. They are so much easier when using heavier gear and heavier line. Its also a good way to practice on 20-40lb and you'll see exactly what I mean, also help you learn how tight the strength needs to be so the lines bind into each other. Whenever your lure or soft plastics fishing fluro is a must. Its harder for fish to see but also gives you the needed stretch and abrasion resistant. If you have really thin guides sometimes you need to get a slightly higher class of braid and fluro as the diameter will be smaller. That can make a massive difference. With the gummy shark rig its always a good idea to run 2 or 3 rod lengths of shock leader. This stops sinkers and clips from rubbing up and damaging the braid. That's really up to you if you start to notice your braid is fraying after battling decent fish. I hope this helps !!

      Id be inclined to think the chip in your gide got there somehow and it was causing your line and knots to break and not the other way around ... I have had a treble hook dig in and ruin a guide before and thats why i thought of it when i read your comment
