- Two different bakeries supply the Girls Scouts of the USA with cookies. They make the exact same type of cookie, but they're labeled under different names and look different too. One of the factories, Little Brownie Bakers, makes 450 million thin mints a day! Each season, Girl Scouts sell nearly $800 million worth of cookies.

NeonCandyKat it’s not ABC Baker’s anymore and this video is crazy old. We make a lot more than the cookies listed here. Thin mints are the WORST. Lemonades and Thanks-a-Lots aren’t much better... I work in the warehouse.

This is coming from a Girl Scout who has been in a troop since kindergarten. We sell the boxes for around $6 and we get like 50 cents for one $6 box. That’s the cookie business.

Brendan Burnham If I understand it correctly, they are made only in two places in the US while it is being sold all around the states. Which means that delivery has to be a cause for the 'expensive' price.
They're expensive because the G.S. organization wants to make $$$ with them. You can by the same cookies without the G.S. logo at places like Aldi, Dollar General, and Walmart for less than $2. Girl Scouts charges $4.
Because the cost of a box of cookies includes portions that go to the local, area and national scouting program. It helps with anything from educational supplies for meetings, leadership activities, STEM and STEAM programs to keeping the camps running. Local service units are very focused on giving back to their communities and doing service projects.
What is really messed up is one of the two distributors is owned by Keebler.
because it's for a "charity" organization. so it's for a good cause, until you see how much the top admins are making. a lot (not all) of these run on a borderline sham operation.

I was a scout when I was younger and we were encouraged NOT to go door-to-door for safety reasons. The girl scouts can now sell them online and have them delivered to you (via the Digital Cookie platform) during cookie selling time.

Listen, ABC bakers needs to be locked up. Their cookies are completely inferior and when I order cookies, I ask which bakery they’re coming from. Their cookies are terrible in comparison. Samoas are WAY better than the caramel delights crud they try to pass off.

I don’t think that there are any councils the do pre orders on cookies anymore but a general rule when taking orders, at least in my council, is that we don’t take money until we have the product for the buyer. Chances are that you got one of the few bad scouts or they might have not even been a Girl Scout. Unfortunately it happens.

In the UK, we are called Guides, and, as a guide, I have NEVER sold cookies, and neither have any of my guide friends. We just do fun activities and games that teach us all about the world around us. We also do trips as well. Last year, we went and slept at an aquarium, and I slept next to the sharks!

I used to be in Girl Scouts from 1977-1985. I had fun selling the cookies. Only one time myself and another girl in the troop were selling cookies at this one bank during winter time to the people going through the drive thru. One guy gave me a dollar not to sell any cookies to him. At that time they were $2.00 a box of cookies. Even our troop leader was there,too. I wore very warm boots for it because of the snow. The other girls didn’t showed up. I was 14 at that time. The troop was small and had only less than 10 girls in the troop. I quit after that last year with the Girls Scouts. I did go on this one trip that I did sell the cookies for the following year. It was fun to go horseback riding a little bit. Even staying at this one place again in southern Wisconsin. I was from Gurnee, Illinois and lived very close to the state border. By car it took only a few minutes to get into Wisconsin.

My mouth was literally watering watching those thin mints being made.
I used to be a Girl Scout for 6 years! I loved Girl Scouts and going to meetings but now that I look back at it we never went on camping trips, never went on outings, never did community service, nothing. We just did a Girl Scout pledge and color stuff. Only big thing was selling cookies and our “leaders” really pushed us to sell a lot and ignore the parts of being and actual Girl Scout.
Edit: for anyone being confused on how we don’t make them ourselves what happens is, they give us a sheet of paper that is made for people to make orders on, then we go around to our family, freinds, and neighbors, ask them if they want to buy and if they do you write down their name on the paper, their phone number, and what type of cookies they want and how many boxes, then about a month later of getting peoples orders they give us a box full of cookies from our orders and then we hand them out.
Natalie my mom was a Girl Scout and she had the same experience so when I was old enough to be one she made sure that my troop would go on camping trip and we loved it. I am still a Girl Scout and now officially a Boy Scout too.

Girls Scout cookies are TOO SWEET. Helping the Girls Scouts means increasing your Metformin dose intake. Someone needs to tell the factory this so something can be done to help the Girls Scouts is healthier ways.
The price goes up and the count goes down. Notice how quick they package them as to not show how many are in the box.(I can remember that the box used to be full) But they still are good.:-)

Please consider at least saying hi when you see the girls selling cookies.. they often stay out in the cold for up to 6 hours at a time with rain not being a. exception lots of the time. You dont have to buy any but just say "hello". I guarantee you that will still make them feel good

Had girl scout cookies for the first time yesterday (From Canada, Girl Guide cookies here are only Thin Mints in Autumn and knock off Oreos in spring) they where good but not enough in a box I found. Though made the kids happy when I got one of every box
Ok let me spill some tea, I was a Girl Scout from kindergarten to fourth grade and let me just say, I HATED cookie season. All of us instead of having usual meetings to learn things we went to our local hardware store “between two doors usually” and freeze are butts of in Minnesota weather and sell boxes. There was about five of us at a time, but there was only two important jobs, cashier and supplier, the rest of us just practically begged people to buy cookies. You see for that four dollar box you buy, we got 1$ or LESS. This was supposed to pay for field trips and things like that. But somehow before almost all of those activities it was canceled. I love supporting your local community, but don’t support basically child labor. Also not to mention the pervy people who parents had to kinda push away.

Actually (depending on which bakery not sure on both) The cookies are made for a couple months a year to stock up supply before the scout season. But the factory makes other cookies year round
