It's concerning to me that a party who wants to "fix the economy" does not want a CGT given Treasury, RBNZ, IRD, MBIE and the previous two TWG's have advocated in some way for a CGT. We're the only country in the OECD without one, we're one of the only countries in the world with issues related to housing skewed to the extreme degree they currently are. Yes, housing is expensive around the world but not to the same degree it is here. A CGT won't change the housing issues but it does lend the government more money to invest in the infrastructure that would allow those homes to be built in the first place. And it's fairer that landlords pay tax for their gains when their renters pay 20-39% of their tax for every hour of their life spent being productive.

Are farming emissions, capital gains taxes, and abortion the top three priorities for Kiwis? As a Father of three young children, my priorities are inflation, housing, and healthcare, which I think is what the majority of us Kiwis are voting on. Government needs to deregulate and roll back taxes just doing those two things, I believe will take down multiple obstacles that us Kiwis face on a daily basis such as how much we pay at the tank, our behavior when going grocery shopping etc.
No Chris, you can't have it both ways and expect to be taken seriously by a critically thinking person. You can't on the one hand say "I'm not the scientist, I'm the politician". Then on the other hand say "It (genetically modifying organisms in NZ) will be incrediby well managed". That makes no sense.
Tame was badgering him looking for a gotcha moment, by quoting an example he found on Google. Luxon can't be expected to know every technical detail. That's for experts to assess.
If every house had a solar panel on their roof supplying power to the grid , how would this help supply of power? Remembering we need to organize recycling of panels.
Just about half of a power bill is a fixed charge. Use no power at all and you are still stuck with the fixed charge. The you have to add the amortization of a short life solar panel. Do your sums FIRST.
Solar panels last upto 25 years as long as you maintain them. You could run you house entirely on 10,000 watt solar and having 1 2,000 watt wind turbine. So you wont need the grid. i have lived of grid for 12 years my power bill is zero. I even supply excess power to my next door neighbour cheaper than the power company and still make money,
Disappointing interview from Luxon. I think Tame nailed why Luxon is opposed to a CGT. What we need is a land tax on all residential property - tax land value only not improvements. This will encourage speculators and others who own residential land to develop or sell. Also to electrify NZ what about all new builds need solar panels and batteries to store electricity
What form of renewable energy we use depends largely on geography and individual situation, and using batteries can cause significant harm to the environment under certain circumstances. Solar is a good option to have but there's not quite a one-size fits all solution. You might want solar here, hydro there, and wind throughout. In places like Australia, India, South Korea, and the US, nuclear is actually quite a sustainable option as well.
I think Tame was a twit. And attacking someone for being successful is the exact problem we have in this country that is sending us backwards. Bring on a Government that has some aspirations and a desire to be successful and to allow us as individuals to be successful

People need to recall that our tax system is aimed to tax salary and wages earners. These people don't get deduction for cost of going to work. However business do?
Income and consumption is taxed, and the aim is to only tax it once, which is why businesses can deduct their expenses, because their expenses is someone else's income. It only gets taxed on the income end

The challenge is for the small farmers to adapt and grow amidst all the chaos. There are huge opportunities when you think about it and I am not ignoring the pitfalls. Farm subsidies, climate change affecting harvests and state vs centre politics around imports are some of the big issues that are not going to go away....
Why isn't National talking about making the the remaining 10-15% of power generation with home generation networks instead of waffling about oil and gas exploration. Jack asked Mr Luxon a direct question and Mr Luxon's answer showed as a property investor he doesn't want to pay tax on his investment. With other questions, an interviewer has the right to ask direct questions.
I bet Luxo has never read a book on the problems with GM technology…he is a smart businessman, but pretty clueless…has he ever heard of Monsanto .Seems to be terrified we are behind the times with gm ...we actually have have an advantage being gm free
"There will be robust risk management". "What are the risks?" .... "There are no risks"
Chris please make it easier for people to vote for you
No Chris, you can't have it both ways and expect to be taken seriously by a critically thinking person. You can't on the one hand say "I'm not the scientist, I'm the politician". Then on the other hand say "It (genetically modifying organisms in NZ) will be incrediby well managed". That makes no sense.
And politicians are supposed to be informed by their scientists on the science so that they can actually make the decisions! So ridiculous
Tame was badgering him looking for a gotcha moment, by quoting an example he found on Google. Luxon can't be expected to know every technical detail. That's for experts to assess.
Oh jeeze. Luxon desreves to be 'badgered' by a journalist who's role is to keep him transparent as he avoids questions over and over.
Makes sense. How come mRNA has different logic applied to it "experimental... unforeseen side-effects" sound familiar?
Productive! Have income gains been passed on to employees at a reasonable rate?
What income gains?
That first question about the risks. It was funny to me that Chris talked about getting stuck in a time warp, then found himself in an endless loop which Jack was doggedly trying to get them to escape from. Chris showing John Key levels of oily slipperiness there.
Exactly!! I actually support the Nats policy on GE - time for NZ to get with the picture. However, Luxon did such a poor job of explaining & selling the policy
Yeah that was wild. "I think the risks can be mitigated." "I don't see any risks." "Yes there are risks". Which is it Luxon?
Luxon has to go if Nats want to have a chance. At this point it doesn't matter if he was talking about feeding the homeless, he looks like a politician, be sounds like a politician, he doesn't give strait answers like a politician, everything is delivered with a spin like a politician. They don't get we are sick of politicians. I want someone who will stop the games and get on with the job, not another bloody politician.
What is "the job"?
Most definitely don't want someone who silently "get on with the job" and wouldn't tell us what they were up to. The silent dictator would be a recipe for disaster.
@@fe6767 what risks for GMO’s is Luxon aware of? What factors did he balance in his decision? I’m still unclear.
Why is his potential benefit of keeping no CGT of hundreds of thousands of dollars not a conflict of interest, but Woods few thousands is? The best I heard was because no one has told him it is.
I really don’t hear many answers. But a lot of taking.
He even had to be asked twice how much tax he would pay on it currently. While being “transparent, upfront”. That’s not being upfront.
I agree silence would be worse, but this performance isn’t much better.
@@Steve-bi2ic I am glad you agree with me. Luxton's policies and interview performance are bad but silence and secretive rulers would be worse.
I don’t like the sound of messing with nature.
time for the departure lounge Chris but which one?
Fat Boy Airlines?
If there is increased productivity what % decrease happens to prices of milk, fruit, meat and eggs fall?
I dont why Luxon bothered to talk to that little creep Tame
Were not being dangerous but let's start engineering genetics😂😂😂
I assume Luxton shakes in his boots when it is time to face Tame and always comes out of it with egg on his face.
All countries with a CGT, still have wealth distribution issues, the Govt will just spend it. Don''t get drawn into the CGT debate, its a red herring
Blatant denial and short-sighted-ness of G.E Risks.
Goodbye small scale farming and organic agriculture.
Well done Jack. Luxon was squirming over those houses. Really, does someone need to own 7 houses. Watch out Jack or he'll send Sam Uffindell round to sought you out.
Doesn't national act like they know how to manage money? Meanwhile their leader can't keep track of his own property investment details... funny that. Jack pushed pretty hard though i might have suggested he dial it back half a knotch, just half :P
Pretty ironic to point to Woods as incompetent for not keeping track of his airport shares (which he clearly did not handle well). Then for Luxon with a straight face go on national television and say he doesn’t keep track of his investments.
Jack stop being the news. What about a conservative bio approach do you not understand?
Jack is so smart. 😂 I will every day of the week rely on Jack’s understanding of science….. Yeah, right. Maybe, Luxon should offer him the job of the bio regulator.
Jack is an immature " points scorer " .
Our products are natural!
Jack you need to interview Michael Wood the same way you're interviewing Chris Luxon. And one needs to question the PM who gave 6 years and walks away a multimillionaire rather than a PM who already has done business and made honest $$$
WEF puppet,
Jack eats Chris alive
Agree 100%. Luxon dodged every single question. Not 1 straight answer
You forgot to mention geothermal and hydro luxon when talking bout renuables
D
our former minister of finance under helen clarke owned 27 rental propertys.hippocrosy by tame .
Where did you hear that?
And given there was no scandal over it - they probably did a great job managing those properties, providing affordable housing for their tenants, and maintaining personal relationships with them.
Managing investment properties is no walk in the park. I could write a thesis on why.
How many does Tame own?
@@dontcomply3976 Tame isn't running for PM.
@Niki Waverider So?
The media is scum, they hound interviewees over something they would quite happily if they could afford to.
NO HOPE with national 😢
Can he not get into his head that Co governance is the elephant in the room!!
Follow the science. Where did I hear that BS before.
Ban “roundup” and 1080
Lot of moronic comments from you in this thread
Wow, Jack. I was impressed. You were like a dog with a bone but not a growly, aggressive one like Sean Plunkett on the Platform interviewing Leighton Baker.
No. Bad news. GMO.
Why the fact he has 7 properties and wanna remove the bright line become an issue only aimed on him?? a lot other house owners wanna see the bright line scrap as well, Jack was rude!
why did luxton keep calling him jake?
People should listen to Garys Economics about the debt based economy and housing ownership.
Gosh, all these liebour supporters following luxon. Heartwarming🙃
Uniparty
People need to recall that our tax system is aimed to tax salary and wages earners. These people don't get deduction for cost of going to work. However business do?
Certainly the cost of going to work should be a legitimate deduction.
Income and consumption is taxed, and the aim is to only tax it once, which is why businesses can deduct their expenses, because their expenses is someone else's income. It only gets taxed on the income end
Jack has to learn not to interrupt his guests.
NZ is about 10 years behind in Tech
The biggest risk is that they copyright everything they create and own all your food. Seeds are a good example. There are no useful seeds in fruit that has been GM'd so you have buy more seed the following year.
A new regulator won’t stop genetic mutation.
Tell Homer Simpson to address the risks and stop living in ignorance.
Dah what are the risks
That’s all I need to know about HIM
Jack needs to stop always pushing his own agenda when doing interviews. In this interview it is obvious that he does not understand the science in this case.
He's a player .
Jack did better in his interview with prof Renwick. This type of interview approach brings the best out of a Jack and creates value for viewers.
What is the science? And in contrast what is Jacks agenda? Please add context, thanks.
Jack did really well. He did his homework. Luxon was clueless
Jack Tame is not pushing his 'agenda' He asked Mr Luxon a direct question and Mr Luxon fail to to answer it which clear show, as a property investor doesn';t want to pay tax on his investment. With other questions, an inteiwer he has the right to ask direct questions. Why are you oppose to that?
All Humpty can talk about is NZ meeting its climate change adjectives
Jack Tame looks like he has an agenda for his interview rather than listening .
Very disappointing
Thank you very much .. Mr Dipshirt Luxon
Very aggressive interview style Vs how he interviewed Chris
Maybe if Luxon wasn't so full of it
@@CUZZABRO did you listen to Chris. All of them are full of it.

How is this guy going to win fml, we turning into America 🥲
Typical Jack Tame talks over whoever he interviews
Great interview Jack. A man who lives in 3 houses wants to make policy about housing....
Batting for BAYER Luxon.
I think many interviewers must have lots of knowledge given research they do.
They ought to but Tame is pretty clueless, barely able to tell the difference between the sun and the moon.
@@rogerdewhurst5750 what a load of rubbish.
Tame likes the sound of his own voice.
That is fairly obvious.
Well we would have heard a lot less of Jack's voice if Luxon had been able to give straight answers to the questions that Jack kept having to repeat...
I'm only voting for a party that will introduce a threshold for tax free income before taxing. The kiwisaver shld be tax free savings for retirement be allowed dividends. Every single dollar is being taxed here, but the wealthy has more option to pay less tax. We pay gst on food, goods and services. even Asian countries have a threshold of tax free income of $18k before taxing.
Luxon is sounds and talks like politician... They Only have vested interest in protecting their own.
STOP referring to your citizens as 'customers'!
Jack, may I suggest you listen and park your personal biases at the door.
Cry about it, Luxon is full of hot air
Jack, i think you should go an live in Venezuela. You will be reformed over there..
Im all for gmo. Just keep it contain so it does’nt effect other crops.
Typical CEO. Not used to being challenged and thinks repeating bland assurances is good enough to placate the plebs.
We trust the science from our autcrate government! 😂😂😂. No risks! Trust us!
Jack u need to ask the current PM the tough questions too. Life is difficult under the current Govt.
Well im 55 and i cant remember a time when life wasnt difficult..in which era was life in nz not difficult mate?...
Is the government directly responsible for the hardships faced by NZers at present? How so?
@@LillyJem anyone who leads should take full ownership..i learnt that as my time serving in Afghanistan as a lieutenant commander. Leadership is my specialty. When my men failed a mission , i took full ownership as leader. Even though i wasnt directly involved. @@hokimoki3677 your probably right. Im 38 and I started my full time working career just before the GFC. I bought a house when interest rates were relatively low. However with interest rates the way they are and with a family its hard. I suppose most people are feeling the same. Theres more crime, more kids and families that need help. I feel things are going backwards fast.
Everything ELECTRIC is catching fire.
As Australia says.
NZ isn't big enough to put a dent in any climate problem.
Same as Australia.
Because all farming, and industries are on the coast.
The mining in the middle of Australia, doesnt affect anything either
Sure I like thus
I'm not one for Labour but let's not be naive - This guy is as corporate as it gets and when he talks about genetic engineering he's thinking profits and reward, not health. Polar extremes aren't the answer and having an ex CEO as PM, they are going to be just as anti "for the people" as having a vapid ex fish n chip worker like Ardern.
I think NZ never recovered from the 80's and 90's Uniparty takeover, and with so much of our country's culture hijacked from overseas, so much of our national identity diluted by globalism, this country just doesn't know what it wants to be anymore, let alone know what it is.
He performed underwhelmingly, score: 4/10.
He's learned the evasive trick but still not quite pulling it off, what a difference a few months makes though.
David Lange would have loved to see it. Lex Luthor taken to task
NO MENTION IF OUR LAND WAR'S WITH THE BRITTISH HOW WE GOT OUR TREATY WITH THE CROWN
Hey Jack, how about asking lux liquid if he is interested in listening to and serving New Zealanders? Or is he hell bent on ignoring Kiwis and following jacinda's roll model as a dictator ? That's a basic simple question to ask of all politicians now they seem to think they're god.
Jack needs to let his interviewees have a good opportunity to answer his questions and to understand that in real life issues are not just black or white.
It's because luxon isn't interested in answering but plugging himself.
Equally, it would be beneficial if Luxon could answer the question.
He gave Luxton plenty of opportunity to answer his questions. He asked them a second time when Luxton "forgot" to answer or "failed to understand" the question. And in many cases asked them a third time.
If Luxton can't answer a question asked 3 times, then that is Luxton's problem not Jack Tame's
I just heard Jack continually interrupting Luxon while he was attempting to give considered answers to the questions. They deserved better than one or two word answers and it would have been interesting to know of the philosophical basis for those answers.
@@dogtucker Watch the interview again. Jack interrupted Luxton when he tried to avoid answering questions by repeating things he had already said. They/we deserve to hear the questions answered rather than hear Luxton repeating himself to avoid the questions.
If you haven't figured it out, the basis for Luxton repeating himself rather than answering the questions is that he didn't want to answer them.

I wonder if Jack will be as argumentative with his interviewees from the other side of the political spectrum? You only have to watch the distinct difference in interview styles compared to Jack's free pass interview with Police Minister Ginny Anderson a few weeks ago to understand his political leanings.
Of course, if the politician is on the left, the arse must be kissed. Remember the $50 million bribe? There is a price for that.
