  • This is a really cool build, I was inspired to make this flickering flame lantern after watching a video of@Adam Savage’s Testedbuild a prop lantern. They look like an actual candle flickering. Powered by 3 AA batteries.

Very nice. Because you have frosty lantern windows, you can remove the inner frosty cover and get more overall light output.

This is such a nice straight forward project with such a great result. Thanks for sharing, this is definitely something I'm going to have to try to recreate. Love all your stuff!

If you want a more bubbled, antique looking glass, run a couple of layers of mod podge with a drop of white paint in it on the inside.

I did something similar, but potted it inside a foam jack-o-lantern on top of a scarecrow for halloween.

Hello! Those look GREAT! 🔥💕👌🏾 I just made some of them…ls there any way possible, they can be put on a timer, also using a remote control? If so, how would I do that? Thank you! 😇

*Would be wonderful if you added a dc motor controller to adjust brightness.*

Great project. Have you established how long 3 AAs last, yet? I'm thinking an 18650 might be my avenue, since I have several of them. And depending what lamps I find. I've never bought these flame bulbs, but this is def. a project I will make. I'm thinking of a Christmas gift for someone... ( AAs the gift units.) Thanks man, great mod!!

I made these as gifts and AA batteries were the simplest so they (elderly) didn't have to deal with charging. Using a flat USB power bank or 18650 would work really well too, then you could just charge them up. Good luck and thanks!

Good job man, absolutely gorgeous. Would You be interested in selling your 3-D printed battery base? Some of us don’t have a 3-D printer at home.

I attached one of these to solar panel and put it in an outdoor lantern. Looks great but defaults to solid (non-flickering light). Any one know how to disable that function so it will only flicker?

Any idea of how long they will "burn"? I dont think they would use so much power but would be interesting to know sens I'm working on my own now after watching your video. Thank you for sharing.

Unfortunately, most flame bulbs now directly mount the flex pcb to the transformer board. It makes it a little more difficult and I have had no luck finding the old style bulbs.

You are only supplying 4.5 V through the 3 AA batteries and the lamps require 5 V no?

In my opinion both the orange and the large amount of flicker makes these look fake
