It's called phototropism when a plant grows towards light, fun little vocab for you. Also, most plants grow with radial symmetry and that's why they're so dreamy.
it is also worth pointing out that you actually SHOULDN'T rotate your plants. You might change them from one place to another when you have no choice( such as moving or giving a plant some sun when it gets none) but u should mark the vase where it points north and always position your plants in the same direction. They grow towards their most comfortable and ideal to be healthy and adapt to their environment this way. turning them hinders this natural process. So it would be better to correct that tip, it was a mistake
Really useful video for all the basic plant care!! Ten months ago I decided to turn our flat into ...a jungle and I've really happy with my decision, especially because I live in a grey, moody, ugly big city. I'm rather impatient, but one day I will wake up to a green view. I love your plants, they look so healthy!! Add green and some of the blues will go away!! :D

I got a snake plant recently and re potted it into a slightly bigger pot bc it was borderline root bound :( Idk if it’s healthy to do that or not with root bound plants
Ah, I feel like I've finally found the 'bible' to indoor plants. This has saved me a lot of time researching. I'm still a beginner but haven't seen my plants grow, the seem dormant (even in the summer) and I think the reason is because I repotted straight after I bought it :( Thank you, Rach!
It would be better if the botanical names were being used more. Common names are quite confusing for beginners as one name could describe multiple plants around the world. Hope this helps your already great channel 😊🪴
I have one in a sketch pad. It's so cute. I do a sketch of the leaves and the plant, add the scientific name and common name and under it there are sections for care like watering, light, temperature and a scale for its temperament lol.
Omg this was amazing! You should do a video on low light plants. I have no south facing windows where the cats won't get to my plants. I'd really like to get more for my room but it only gets partial sun in the evening. Thanks!
that's great because you can really focus your attention on them and manage them well; at least for now, because soon you'll have a lot more "children" XD XD
i've heard of people leaving tap water out in buckets for a couple of days so the chemicals evaporate... also the reason some people leave pitchers of water out for drinking, I'm currently in the market for a ficus benjamina.. have a great day and workout
J M I don’t think that’s how it works, if anything by doing that you get a higher concentration of chemicals because it’s the water that evaporates not the chemicals. If you are concerned about chemicals in your water I would suggest getting a water filter for your tap or a pitcher that filters the water.
If you water your plants with tap water, I would fill a pitcher and let it sit for 24 hours to allow the chlorine to evaporate. This evaporation occurs because chlorine is a volatile solute. However, other minerals and chemicals like fluoride will not evaporate. Personally, I prefer to water my plants with distilled water. 🙂
Chlorine does evaporate off, as others have said. Personally I water mine with the water from my dryer, since it’s distilled water and I’d just be throwing it away anyway
@@xxxxlollypopxxx true, but because of this, chloramine, which doesn't evaporate, is also added to tap water. I use water from my fish tanks when doing water changes to water my plants. If I don't have that, I do use tap water and hope for the best. Nothing is dead, yet!
You dont read moisture meter right after you stick it in the soil. You need to keep it there for 10 minutes and take a reading after that, then remove it. You will be surprised how different the reading is after 10 minutes. For example , if I wanted to take a reading right away most of the time it would be around 7. After 10 minutes it shows 3. Which means plant needs to be watered
Put it in a little bowl with water every now or then. Watering basil from the bottom instead of pooring on top will help it survive for longer. Hope that helps...
Mine wouldn't die until I went on holidays. No matter how dried out it was, I put the pot in water for 30min and it came back to life. It just needs a lot of water
Wow this is the most helpful and useful video I've seen. Always been a fan of growing plants but they have always died in my care. That hasn't stopped me from trying or learning. I used to do this when I first started but then I figured to let them stay longer in their nursery pots- especially because of my lack of commitment and work life. Anyways, today was the day I decided to repot my store bought plants from their nursery pots to an appropriate size pot, I noticed this and took action when their roots sprouted out from the bottom holes of the nursery pot. At the moment I'm struggling keeping my clematis from dying 😣

My mother used to set them outside or even shower her plants, for them to get rid of the dust on their leaves. She did that atleast twice a year and dusted the leaves in between. Another thing to make sure you do, atleast for the plants that are sensitive to too much water, put in a layer of hydro-pellets at the bottom of the pot. The pellets will soak up exces water and graduately feed it back to the soil
i've found that tap water is better for my plants when it has sit for a week or more. i keep a few 1L bottles to rotate through so that the plants get the 'cured' tap water. i think it has something to do with fluoride & other things in the water, so i don't shake 'cured' water, or use the bottom of my bottles.

It’s always a nice touch to put your post in the pot before putting in new potting medium and your plant. Shoving it in like that might actually damage the roots. 👌🏻
Tip for gnats/fruit flies (I just learned this! But it works cause I had already put crushed glass in a pot for decoration)you can add rocks or gravel (or whatever) to the top of then soil and then the larvae can’t get out when they hatch, and we’ll, they die! Also for mealy bugs... so easy: I spray water and either rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on them and it kills hem INSTANTLY (and doesn’t hurt the plants at all! ...At least none of the plants I sprayed!) Neem oil is also an amazing addition to my house plant pest control. I have spider mites really bad and lost 2 plants trying to treat it organically until coming across the neem oil suggestion. It is all natural and it killed the spider mites without causing any problems with my plants. It also helped with my fungus gnats. I just dilute it in water and spray them every 2 weeks to a month for maintenance

My roommate used my mister bottle to spray diluted soap on her pest-infested flowers. SHE RETURNED IT WITH THE SOAPY WATER. AND DIDN'T TELL ME UNTIL AFTER I DRENCHED MY PLANTS WITH "WATER". Needless to say all of my plants died a very fast death. And I had to start over.

Neem oil is also an amazing addition to my house plant pest control.
When you said they look like they are asking you a question "like hello!" lol I died . Seriously live for your videos =)
hahahah same, my favourite part and also so true now that I think of it LOL
Such a well put together video. Thank you! Two questions:
1. What do you wipe your plants down with?
2. How do you get rid of the little insects from the plant/soil?
Thanks!
*I love your plant tips! Where did you gather all these tips? I also love your tip on how you know it's a healthy plant if it looks like it's "asking you a question". This was SO insightful :)*
@@user-vo6hl8sp6b haha we have similar taste!
wow great video, love your selection, since I live in California, Whenever we get rain usually at night, I take all my pot plants inside and outdoors and put it outside in the rain, I have noticed a few weeks after that the plants look so full and color so vibrant. i will try to get any rain water possible

Wtf! That sucks :( I'd be so mad. Rip your planties

The only thing I know is if it's really spiny and thin it needs more sun(: then the leaves will grow fatter
