This is an exceptionally well made video! I got this game on launch day and have been trying to enjoy it since, putting in just over 120 hours. I believe in this game, but I just haven't had that "oh shit" moment were I fall in love with a game and the addiction ensues. I'm waiting for the lightning to strike. I loved Sekiro, so I know it's not just an aversion to challenging gameplay. I'll keep these pointers in mind.
Turning off the sound also lowers the level of anger you feel when you get killed, it's not the best of solutions since you don't get to hear the music sound effects etc. But it help
I recently finished witcher 3 and loved it so much and people suggested to play this game next but man everything feels like a downgrade. I don't understand anything in this game. Uninstalled it due to frustration.
That makes total sense. They are completely different genres. You don’t have to enjoy Elden Ring to be a gamer though. Ply what you enjoy! Wild Hunt is also an epic part of gaming history. I have a chapter in the upcoming Psychology of the Witcher as well, FYI.
No quests to do, no npcs to talk to or factions to join. Just big hp enemies everywhere trying to kill you for some reason and clunky controls that feel like I'm playing a 90s game. Beating bosses just for the sake of beating them without a purpose is no fun. What a dogshit game and waste of money.
@@DrGameology I understand but when people claim it's the greatest game ever made I'm just trying to understand how the hell that even works. There are other games I don't enjoy but I understand why others do. This game is just bad. It is all a matter of perspective, right? When you get defeated, you can either rage, despair, or lol. All are valid reactions. Some lead to more enjoyment than others though.
dude... i'm level 30 wandering around with everything either too easy or too hard. what story?!? wtf are you talking about. there is ZERO story. i thought you were going to help me find out how to have fun in this PoS game. thanks for trying, but what are you talking about? "just keep going" ?!? you're asking for a LOT of faith when every minute spent in this game feels like a waste of time in my mortal life. what can you tell me that doesn't sound like a kool-aid drinking zealot? what can anyone tell me to make me feel like i didn't waste my money on this PoS? who, in their right mind, accepts this clunky combat, average gfx, and planned obsolescent world system? all i'm seeing is fanatical lemmings running for a cliff that only the uninitiated can see.
This game is so grindy until you get your stats in the place that works for your play style. I remember really struggling to enjoy the game until I got to around level 60. I started grinding runes passively all day while doing my work tasks, just over and over destroying small mobs to hold onto 100k runes before venturing into dangerous areas in my actual play time. The storytelling is all done through the environment. NPC's have alignments with their different faiths or allegiances, and these plot points carry different endings if you help certain people out all the way through their missions. The best way to enjoy a Soulsborne game is disconnect from the idea that success is the only way something can be enjoyable, and then center on the experience of growing with each fight. This is similar to the principles found in Mindfulness-based Psychology. That is how we come to enjoy things that are hard for the long haul. I hope that helps, and if this game feels bad, there is nothing wrong with saying "It is not for me and I'm done." You are still a great person whether you enjoy Elden Ring or not.
Slight correction, "you died" is the second most read, right behind "Try finger but hole"

How to enjoy early game: Rock Sling erdtree avatars and other outside bosses from the cliff or ruin above while cackling evilly

Yes! Classical Conditioning is definitely at play there.
I was thinking of turning the music off to have only sound effects. Then play music of my choice …
