    PSA: I’ve owned this mouse for about a year and I’ve owned multiple steelseries products for several years now and I’ve owned a couple cheap sub no name $40 ‘MMO’ mice that are very similar to this aerox 9 with multiple programmable buttons etc. This and one of my steelseries headphones (Arctis 7 I believe) which I also bought about a year ago are by far the most problematic computer peripherals I’ve ever owned.
    The scroll wheel on this mouse ‘broke’ within a month or two and will scroll in random directions randomly and what I mean by that is that if you scroll up it’ll scroll both up and down simultaneously or rather alternate up and down every couple scroll ‘actions’ but then if you mash it down and move it around and basically act like you’re trying to break it then it’ll temporarily fix it sometimes but it’ll mess up again the same day and it’s a constant back and forth and it’s a wide spread issue if you read reviews which are now low 3 stars and seem to indicate that steelseries still hasn’t fixed the issue even on new production units.
    My headphones are mostly just having issues disconnecting and reconnecting and stuff like that but I don’t have that issue on my other wireless steelseries headphones that I’ve owned for years.
    I’m done buying steelseries products for now, I like their products and software but the quality seems to be going downhill.
    Also I think some of the issues could have something to do with the firmware because since I was out of warranty period anyway I took the mouse apart and inspected the scroll wheel and electronics (I’m decent at fixing stuff) and the design of the scroll wheel assembly is just asking for problems but with that said I couldn’t find anything blatantly wrong but inside the potentiometer (thing that senses scrolling) it look like it’s internals are plastic and when scrolling almost feels like the plastic ’teeth’ inside it are worn down but once you smash it and all that then it doesn’t feel mushy and worn down and also usually temporary fixes the issue but if the plastic teeth were worn down then mashing it down would theoretically make it worse not fix it so it just doesn’t make any sense from what I’m able to test without something like an oscilloscope unless the software/firmware is misreading inputs or something which **could** account for both the headphone and mouse issues since the mouse is also having connection issues just not as bad as the headphones.
    I just bought a redragon m913 wireless as a $40 replacement and it’s coming in today so what I’m going to do is get it set up then take apart my aerox 9 and a cheap steelseries mouse I also have and see if they use a similar scroll wheel set up and if they do then I’m going desolder each of them and swap them then test each of them out and I’ll take a video of all of it and if it works then I’ll post it whenever I get time.

    These day I prefer less buttons on a mouse and mapping the modifier keys (shift, control, alt) onto the mouse to make my keybinds. When 12 button mice were new you couldn't program modifier buttons onto mice so the more buttons the better.

    After having two Razer Naga Pro failures in like 6-7 months, and the scimitar scroll wheel plastic just breaking, I was hoping that this would be it in terms of a wireless MMO mouse solution. I'm back with the G600 for the time being.

    I tried to like MMO mice. I tried several of them. Controller is just more comfortable to me and cramps my hands less, and I have less missed inputs. My favorite of the ones I tried though was the razer naga x, the size/weight/position of the side buttons felt best to me. Other ones I tried were the aerox 9 (honestly hated it), logitech g600 (2nd favorite), corsair scimitar elite (had problems tracking, randomly jumped around although looking back it may not have liked my mouse pad), redragon m908 was not bad, but naga x was better. I used to use a dualshock 4 controller on pc but now I'm using the 8bitdo ultimate and I love it. I still use a standard mouse and keyboard a lot though for inventory and market board.

    In the search for *THE* mmo mouse I bought one of these. I hated the lightweight design, it makes it feel cheap and I just enjoy a weighted mouse. The biggest issue though was the side buttons being sized for a 7yr old, there was no way I could push one button without pressing others. Wireless is also an immediate negative for me, having to stop what you're doing to charge something sucks.

    To put my two cents in, I would avoid Razer like the plague nowadays. I've recently been testing out alternatives because I've had *four* Nagas fail in the past two years and I just cannot look past a failure rate like that, even if they've all been replaced under warranty.
    It is unfortunate that this doesn't sound like a contender, but hopefully SteelSeries can fix the issues.

  • @guiltygamerxrd
    @guiltygamerxrd 4 місяці тому

    I bought this mouse because I had wanted to go wireless from the Naga X I was using and wanted to try giving Steelseries a try. Honestly couldn't use it, the side buttons were way too stiff and as someone with big hands, I could not find any position where I could comfortably hit every button reliably. Any spot where I could at least reach them all, made some of them hard to press in without significant force.
    Overall hated it, returned it for a Naga Pro V2 and love it. I swap out the 12 button side when I'm not playing FFXIV to have a lighter feel. I've also tried the Scimitar but wasn't personally a fan. I wanted to avoid Razer because their stuff breaks easy, but unfortunately I just haven't found anything else as comfortable to use. Too bad most companies don't seem too interested in being competitive or innovative with MMO mice.

  • @e56hdyhdfgh
    @e56hdyhdfgh 3 місяці тому

    I wish there were more MMO mice to choose from, or at least more varied options. MMOs being such a stagnant genre, demand must be pretty low. I have had quite a few different ones over the years, with my favorites being some of the original nagas. They were smaller, had the index finger buttons for mouse 4 and 5, and seemed to have better build quality than modern ones too. Currently, I seldom use an MMO mouse because I only dabble in GW2 here and there, but when I do, I use my Roccat Nyth. I don't even think they sell those anymore, but honestly, that feels like my best option currently. Very unique mouse, that is highly customizable versus the rest, I wish it were wireless and not so heavy though.
    Ideally, I want a mouse on the small side, lightweight, wireless, with mouse buttons 4 and 5 like the old nagas, or the nyth, which has a 2 button switch that sits between your index and middle finger. Nothing seems to meet that criteria. Was hoping the "glorious PC gaming" company would make one eventually, so I could at least get the same form factor as my current (non MMO) mouse, the Model D.

    I feel the side buttons are in an uncomfortable position, weirdly angled and unnecessarily stiff. Incredibly uncomfortable design.

  • @EbonySeraphim
    @EbonySeraphim 2 місяці тому

    Ouchy, this mouse seems like trash tier if you take it for what it is. Disconnection issue is a non-starter for even a $2 mouse. You don't want to be in an intense raid and BAM, you disconnect, you die -- or even stop being able to act for 5 seconds critical failure unless you keep to all 'easy/normal" content in FFXIV. Even if you are sticking to that, any peripheral that locks up, freezes, or stop working for any perceievable period of time that disrupts my sensation that the thing is working smoothly is a massive problem, especially when it's intermittent.
    Moving onto other things is still pretty sad for this mouse, even if you assume no disconnect issues:
    Lightweight is simply not useful for a mouse. People who have wrist issues with mice is because of their form factor that forces you to have ulnar deviation (rotated arm because your wrist is at a angle). Even though based on physics, you are doing "more work" to start and stop a heavier mouse as you move it, the weight any mouse that isn't made of heavy medals is well within any person or child operating with perfect control, and low effort all day. What matters is how smooth the slide is --- the skates and your own hand, arm, or fingers that touch the mouse pad or other surface. Those can be the cause of a massive difference between the amount of force (effort) it takes to move your mouse from being still compared to keeping it moving and cause unstable and jittery movement.
    The button layout is also horrible: although it is an unfortunate "standard" when it comes to MMO mice I have personal experience with the layout via the Corsair Scimitar. Your thumb is a crucial part of controlling mouse movement and you do so only when you have confident grip with it. If you put that many buttons on the side with a reasonable size, it'll mean reaching the back/rear row makes your thumb grip kind of "crunched in" and to reach the forward row you are stretching. There's even an annoying variance around the top and bottom row vertically. It's trivial to feel this out and you easily find the buttons your thumb feels comfortable pressing quickly and confidently and it'll likely be 2-3 at most, and the other buttons, you'll have to hunt. Yes, you can learn it over time but I still know the layout is the problem.
    You should really check out the SwiftpointZ. No, I don't work for them, just an extremely happy owner for 5+ years, and just upgraded to the Z2. Virtually nothing changed; I just wanted it new and cleaner. The mouse has more buttons, and more functions (force sensitive deep click threholds on 4 of the most easy buttons), all in very separate and intuitive places to access them -- all without forcing you into awkward stretches or grips that are counter to your thumb being where it needs to be to control the mouse movement 100% of the time. The only reason this mouse doesn't seem to be the stupidly clear choice is brand recognition, price, the mouse does so much some reviewers hammer it thinking they need to try to use some of it's more unique features to the fullest.
    Also, minor suggestion for your usage of any MMO mouse: I think you have greater gains when you dedicate shifting over modifier keys entirely to the mouse -- before moving any direct hotkeys there. Most people find it really easy to hit 4-7 keys around WASD movement, but when you also have to hit a modifier with them, far less trivial. Putting the modifier on your right hand syncs up really nice and gives you back a lot better movement because you're dropping the pinky stretches and feeling so much more confident around all keypresses even when modifiers are pressed. Think about it this way: every modifier you can put on the mouse, multiplies the number of keys you have access to on your left hand.
