That is a coincidence. For the first time in years I managed to be able to rent a bike for a day again. I did so last Friday and I chose a SV650 (I had the blue/bronze combo, looked very nice). Since I'm obviously a complete novice it is really cool to see your opinion of the bike. And I agree, while being inexperienced, I still felt almost instantly at easy with the bike. There is not too much power to be intimidating, but definitely enough to keep things interesting! The spread of torque makes a forgiving engine too, when as a novice you're sometimes in the wrong gear. There was one bigger issue I struggled with and that was the fueling. I didn't like the initial snatchy throttle, but I believe most modern bikes have this. But, when downshifting it responds super well to rev matching, which even I managed to do (most of the time) after very little practice. And this negates some of the jerky throttle. Also, after a couple hours the seat started to feel really thin
Thanks for sharing!! Agreed, the fueling might not be the best. There are bikes out there which are much smoother with throttle responses. But like you guessed correctly, there's also many out there with a snappy initial response. Indeed I don't notice a snappy one unless it's really bad :D
@@Schaaf If I don't trouble you for too much time: since you have had your hands (ass?) on many a bike, would you be able to share a bike where you thought the fueling was really good? Now this engine is likely in its final days, it seems a shame Suzuki didn't insert it into another platform beyond the SV and V-Strom. There would definitely have been room in the market about a decade ago when the gen 3 SV was being developed for cruiser and scrambler bikes with this engine.
My first bike was a 2002 Honda CB500, the Schaaf-model. I guess I started watching Schaaf videos after I bought the bike. In 2020 I bought a half year old Suzuki SV650, so 2019 model. They are a bit alicke, however the SV drives more refined and has way better engine sound. My wife has a 2014 Bandit 650 naked. The Bandit is completely different and way less fun. The SV handles way better, mainly due to the weight difference. I also like the L2 sound better then the I4. I think the SV650 is just a brilliant bike.
@@MOONDATURA none at all. A couple of months after I bought it, i needed to add some engine oil, this happened once, after that only regular maintenance took place.
Totally agree with your summing up comments apart from the gearbox, mine was always smooth and slick unlike my mt-07 which is a bit notchy, and combined with the excellent clutch makes the SV transmission a joy to use.
As an SV650 owner, I was in between these two bikes as well. I can say I'm happy with my pick. My girlfriend has an MT07 2021 and I have an SV650 2022 so I'll give you some comparisons. 1. SV650 has way better build quality IMHO. - The gas tank is metal, there is a lot less plastic in general, and the MT07s plastic tank squeaks a lot when duck walking it in your driveway 2. Driving position on the SV650 is way sportier. - You sit leaned more toward the handlebars, and your feet are further back compared to the MT07. After riding my SV and sitting on an MT, it feels like I just sat on a touring bike. If you're taller, you might like the MT more. I'm 6ft2in and the SV sometimes just feels a bit cramped, but I got used to it. 3. Driving comfort. - The SV650 is less comfortable for sure. The stock seat sucks and it's too narrow, and it's a smaller bike too. The suspension is stiffer on the SV giving it better handling, but as a downside it's a bit more uncomfortable. But I would say that 90% of the problem would be fixed by a more comfy seat. You can buy a tuck & roll seat which is not too expensive. 4. Exhaust sound. - The stock exhaust on the MT07 sucks ass, you can basically only hear it when it idles on cold start. When driving it sounds like a sewing machine. The SV650 is way louder when on the gas, but also sounds like a sewing machine most of the time when riding normally. A major upside is that on the SV650 you can just buy a slip-on exhaust to make it sound better, no tune needed. On the other hand, the MT07 has a full system installed as stock, so you can only buy a full system to modify it, and that will require a tune, which is expensive. 5. Power. - To me, they feel really similar, you can look up drag races comparing the two. I don't think you will be disappointed with either one. 6. Features. - The MT07 just has more features, no questions about it. You have a better screen, LED headlight, LED blinkers out the box. Unlike the SV650 which has buttons right on the screen, the MT07 can control the screen via buttons on the handlebars. MT07 can show you the the engine temperature and outside temperature, whereas the SV only shows the engine temp in shape of 6 lines on the screen. 7. Fuel consumption - The MT07 wins this one easily. The SV650 uses about 4.5-5.5 L/100km in the city when I ride it, and about 3.8-4.2 L/100km on country roads. The MT07 uses about 4.2-4.7 L/100km in the city, and 3.5-4 L/100km on country roads. Difference is really because the SV has a V-twin, more moving parts = less efficiency. In conclusion, I really like my SV650, but since I bought it I added LED blinkers, bar-end mirrors, slip-on exhaust and a tail tidy. Before those mods I didn't enjoy it nearly as much, especially without the new exhaust. I think you won't be disappointed with either of these bikes, can't really make a mistake here.
@@anteperkovic9960 Nice summary, and I agree with a lot of your points. I changed from a 2020 SV to a 2020 MT, only because I liked them both so much. The MT is better, although both these bikes have very budget suspension. I prefer the engine in the MT, it's just more fun imo. However, the SV hangs on better at the top end. Well i need to learn from you :) I got the sv650x version , but im still riding it slowly, love the bike and the sound I got some videos you might wanna check them
Sorry to say, but the transmissions in the SV and Dl 650's are not cheap. I've had 4 of these Vtwins and they have been ultra reliable. Heard of scores of SV's with 150k miles. DL's with 250-300k miles on original engines, with a modicum of care. I'll ride 'em till the wheels fall off.
Several differences aside from looks. The crankshafts are lighter for a more zippy experience where vstroms have heavier cranks to help lug down "trails". But yes, ratio is different.
been on a Sv650x for the better part of a year and a half, really going at it in the corners aswell, yet I have to touch ground with the footpeg scrapers at all... Might it be that im not pushing it down enough for that to happen?
I've got a 2019. It's an enjoyable bike. The brakes could be better. Gearbox has been fine for me. The throttle tube rotation is pretty large, but if you screwdriver grip it it's OK, you get used to it. For the money, it's increadable value.
Flimsy and cheap gearbox? I find neutral instantly and imo the gears engage pretty smoothly. And its far away from a clunky gearbox. Was meinst du mit "flimsy"?
hello ! I heard the tut of the horn at the beginning, I take this opportunity to ask if you still use the same system as 9 years ago with your zoom h1 in a bag with foam ?
@@BillySBC Yeah you're also not doing your entire transmission any favors if you don't match the revs when shifting down and you're not doing your clutch any favors when you slowly engage it every single time. I'm no mechanic but if done correctly rev matching puts the least stress possible on the transmission so the cam chain should be fine enough. No offense but I'm gonna stick with the advice from millions of bikers around the globe instead of one guy who claims to know a lot about bikes. I fully believe this happened to you or you know a guy this happened to but it can always be because of the unique way the bike was designed or the drivers inability to rev match correctly

It's likely that the 8S is the future replacement for the SV
The 600cc bike i love most❤
Thanks
watching you clean your lens is like cleaning a smudge off my face lol
😅
Well i need to learn from you :)
I got the sv650x version , but im still riding it slowly, love the bike and the sound
I got some videos you might wanna check them
Just take time and don't rush things
Mag deine Videos.
Ich hab eine 2006er sv650 und hab es noch nie geschafft das die Fußraste streift, bei dir sieht das so einfach aus.
Sind die Nippel unter den Rasten, nicht die Rasten selbst ;)
Seems like a fun bike :)
Sure is
Passed my test on an SV650. Such good bikes. Perfect for a beginner, but with enough grunt that you don't outgrow it immediately.
test an SV 1000N if you have a chance, would be interesting to see from your perspective
Unfortunately I don't
missing your review on the vstrom 650!
Unfortunately ua-cam.com/video/A_lVU5NGIUY/v-deo.html
Bratko, you don't use a wide angle lens on your videos do you? Just those ND filters for certain light conditions...
777, cb500 vibes indeed
Yeaaa
I reckon you hammered the SV650X a lot harder! :)
Less smoothly maybe
Sorry to say, but the transmissions in the SV and Dl 650's are not cheap. I've had 4 of these Vtwins and they have been ultra reliable. Heard of scores of SV's with 150k miles. DL's with 250-300k miles on original engines, with a modicum of care. I'll ride 'em till the wheels fall off.
I probably said it felt cheap and not that it was cheap. But I can't confirm that right now. Suzukis are build to last and everybody knows that
I have heard rumors that they are going to stop production
of this V twin engine for SV and V strom 650
Very likely indeed
I just saw your cb500 video 7 years ago you still alive gr8 to see
But if you had one bike as a parallel twin what is the fun bike you would have ???
CB500 PC26
What did you think of the throttle? Looks like a very long rotation compared to your normal.
I didn't even notice that lol
How you got the enginesound so clear?
are you using nd 16 or 32?
is it comfortable for height 1.83?
Yes
Do you miss top end power? In which gear your are going in hairpins?
Not at all, depends on the hairpin
Name of the street???
What happened at 4:10?
rear wheel hop under heavy breaking. when hard on the breaks, the front wheel loads and the rear unloads so its easy to hop/lock the rear wheel.
Shocked you haven't featured an Indian FTR yet
Coming soon
is that KPH?
Yes
Ich schaue deine Videos seit ich 13 bin und das ist auch 13 Jahre her… Gibst die cb 500 noch?
Ja, ist aber derzeit nicht angemeldet
Why do you censor the speedometer? You can just calculate the speed with the pylons and the stripes on the road?
keyboard warriors don't do that. They're not smart enough to calculate
I thought the production of SV650 ends this year to make way for the GSX-8S, no?
It's not certain yet but probably
I can really tell when that ABS is kicking in! You sure know how to brake hard lol. Did you find it intrustive at all?
I have the dunlop mk3 on my sv650 and when they warmed up the ABS is no longer an issue.
Not at all, it's only the rear abs you can hear
where is the camera ?
Chest mount
Great riding !
I have a V strom 650, is the gear ratio different on the SV 650?
Several differences aside from looks. The crankshafts are lighter for a more zippy experience where vstroms have heavier cranks to help lug down "trails". But yes, ratio is different.
@@johnwirk thanks a lot!
Danke für testvideo. Aber diese Typ better singt mit Yoshimura Auspuff. Weiteres gutes riding wünsche dich.
Danke
If you were to choose only one bike, this one or the SV650 X? Can this corner as goof as the X?
Performance wise they are the same
@@Schaaf does the X have an advantage in corners? Thx for the answer
Can´t stand the digital speedometers. Otherwise pretty nice.
thanks
Do this sv650 come with quickshifter?
Definitely not
Don't you have a win action for that bike, I like the color
A what
@@Schaaf 😁
been on a Sv650x for the better part of a year and a half, really going at it in the corners aswell, yet I have to touch ground with the footpeg scrapers at all... Might it be that im not pushing it down enough for that to happen?
I don't recommend scraping pegs
@@Schaaf looks fun though, I already go pretty low into corners, so it should only come natural
I've got a 2019. It's an enjoyable bike. The brakes could be better. Gearbox has been fine for me. The throttle tube rotation is pretty large, but if you screwdriver grip it it's OK, you get used to it. For the money, it's increadable value.
Thanks!
I think they went from
2pot to 4pot in 2020
@@jimbo1485 2019. The SV650 AL9 (my model bike) has the 4 pots on. They work ok. I just want a little more sometimes.
@@cunningpunt hmm was it 2019 they made the change?
@@jimbo1485 yeah mate. The AL9 onwards from 2019.
Hi, @schaaf is it worth to change a 15' CB500F for a 22' SV650? Is it noticiable enough the power difference between models? Thanks
Depends
@@Schaaf thanks. What would do yo consider in that case?
Flimsy and cheap gearbox?
I find neutral instantly and imo the gears engage pretty smoothly. And its far away from a clunky gearbox.
Was meinst du mit "flimsy"?
😀👍
thanks

hello ! I heard the tut of the horn at the beginning, I take this opportunity to ask if you still use the same system as 9 years ago with your zoom h1 in a bag with foam ?
i'd also like to know the answer to that question :D
Yes
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
Thanks
Why do you keep blipping the throttle on the way down? Gonna make your timing chain jump time one of these days.
It's called rev matching and it's pretty much what every experienced rider does. It's much healthier for the bike when decelerating fast
@@nijego I've been riding and working on bikes for many many years. You're doing your cam chain no favors doing that.
@@nijego Will you just stop doing it please? Thank you.
@@BillySBC I'll do it even more now
Do not release the throttle at the upshift.
That’s why everybody install quick shifter.
of course I will install a quickshifter on a press bike I borrowed for 30 minutes...
Do you prefer the sv650 or the sv650x?
Aren't they more or less the same
This or gsx8s?
The 8S is better in every single aspect but I'd take the SV for nostalgic reasons
Sv is much More affordable
@@Schaaf ¿also the engine? Im A2 and I doubt about SV 650 x, MT, and street triple ( second hand)

Mate you gotta move your body more man! Bikes leaning so much, I can tell you’re not leaning your body cos your arms are both straight as javelins and your knees are both tucked firmly on the tank. You’re going fast, learn how to steer bro x

Ok
SV 650 is just a Japanese Ducati Monster clone, but is not bad at all!
Not even close, it took a life of its own
Probably the better version lol
@@Schaaf Ducati is better for me. Suzuki don’t have any brakes 🥹
@@Schaaf with bad brakes, sometime we need do stop, not only to accelerate. Suz is just jap bike 😃
a 20 years bike but with a high price and nothing new, suzuki being suzuki...
High price? Where do you come from?
yea, in Austria it's relatively cheap
An ugly bike. sorry Suzuki
Lol
