The trick to beating sugar is remembering - it’s actually less tempting the longer you stay away from it! Do everything to get through that first day and you’ll be cruising. You never crave sugar more than the few minutes after you finish your last treat. I call it riding the sugar train, that cycle of eating sweets, getting that high, crashing and doing it all over again. But sugar only makes you want more sugar, it’s a craving that never actually gets satisfied.

    * *It took a MONTH for my sugar cravings to cease!* * That was the tough area for myself. Mostly, after dinner I'd want a nutty-buddy peanut wafer crunch bar (Little Debbie, I believe they're called).
Yes, I DID quit cold-turkey. My physical was last week and the doctor was impressed with the bloodwork. He asked me how:
    - Borderline fatty liver is no longer.
    - Cholesterol levels are back in check.
    - Blood/sugar is within normal range.
    - Blood pressure still a bit high at 148/85 (normal for someone in their 60's is 140/80).
    - Dropped 20 pounds (10 kilo).
    - And I'm training for a half-marathon in the spring (13.1 miles / 21 km).
    - All this was accomplished over the summer and fall of 2021 *- WITHOUT -* medicines.

You are absolutely right, and the reason behind it, is that everyone is locked up in denial. They don't want to see it. I've been addicted to sugar my whole life, and only managed to get rid of that addiction twice ; the first time when I was in a relationship a few years ago (at the time, my partner and close relatives were taking my concern as a joke, neglecting the importance of my struggle (it's extremely hard to stop sugar) and kept offering me lots of chocolates and sweets because they knew I liked it (of course ! Like an alcoholic likes good wine, or a bottle of Whisky, but would you offer them those when they're in rehab ?), making me slowly plunge back into my addiction. "You know you like it, it's not a serious issue, just enjoy life." The second time being now, as I'm finally reaching the sixth day without pastries, fruit juices, smoothies, chocolate.

    • @Demowan
      @Demowan 2 роки тому +28

I'd go as far as to say that no issue is more urgent when it comes to public health, than fighting against sugar addiction. It would alleviate the public debt if we could avoid all the cardiovascular illnesses, cancers, long-term illnesses directly linked to sugar comsumption. But there are two conflicting agendas in presence :
      - public health
      - economic growth
Indeed, they need us to consume as much as possible, and so, encouraging the consumption of highly addictive food is a very efficient maneuver from the food industry, that generates billions of dollars a year. The economic impact of sugar can not be overestimated.

Sugar addiction is physiological not psychological.
Sugar is eight times more addictive than cocaine.
But sugar addiction is easier to break than a drug addiction.
It takes only ten days to break a sugar addiction.
Hear are the keys to break the sugar habit. Do this for ten days and you won't crave sugar
    1. Make a thoughtful, conscientious decision to quit sugar
    2. quick cold turkey all sugar, flour and artificial sweetners
3 eliminate msg's and processed food that can feed addition to sugar.
    4. eliminate sport drinks, soft drinks, juices, teas, etc (green vegetable juice is ok)
5 add protein to every meal eggs, fish, nuts,
    6. non starchy vegetables, asparagus, green beans, etc
    7. eat natural fats: avocado, nuts, etc
8 manage stress. mental stress changes the body chemistry
    9. quit glutten and dairy
    10. sleep. get eight hours of sleep.
    I'll give this a try

+Frederic Beigbeder it is more addictive and it has been tested on animals. Rats addicted to cocaine were choosing sugar over cocaine. Do some research and you will be shocked learning about sugar. I couldn't understand it before but this is a serious addiction. You can be eating chocolate without even realising it. You can be awake at night sweating because you need sugar. And when you stop? Your symptoms are no different from the symptoms of any other addict out there.

    Hello everyone ,
So i am currently doing this detox. And i want to let ypu know my experience for each day.
So i am 99 kg and 172 cm. I am obese and have had problems with my hormone levels so not easy for me to lose weight. I have not had a period for months...
So i got the book and follow everything that it says. I only eat the produce that it allows me, no cheating. I also drink 2-3 ounces of water a day.
Day 1: i felt great, very enthusiastic. I had no cravings, it was great.
Day 2: the most difficult day sonfR. I had cravings all day. I tried to stop it by having loads of fresh veggies, but did not work. Also I had a banging headache all day. Also i felt so very tired and hard to concentrate.
Day 3: i was feeling better, but headaches remained for a little vit longer. My cravings for chocolate kind of just settled. I felt really tired though still. I weighed myself and i was 98kg. I dont knownif it is actual fat loss or just me not eating much. At this point is also started to be difficult to keep cooking and prepare every single mel for the day and do shopping for it. Meal prepping is time consuming
Day 4 & 5: it was getting easier to not think of sweets and other carbs. I started having abdominal pain, which i did not understand. I head no head aches at this point. But still felt so tired.
Day 6 : The abdominal pains continues and my period actually started which was such a suprise for me. It must have been more than 5 months before i had it.
Heasaches went away completely. I dont crave sugar that much, just a little bit. I crave food that others in my surrounding eat.
Day 7: feeling good ! And i lost 2.5 kg (5.5 pounds). ! I havent had any headaches today!
    Day 8 :
So i lost 3.2 kg by now. I have no headache. I am not hungry and my cravings have settld down a lot. I am constantly very thirsty, instead of being hungry (this is because my body is in high fat burning level- ketosis)
    Day 9 &10:
I actually did not struggle at all on these days. I do not crave sugar or carbs as bad as i did before the diet. My acne has mainly disappeared. I am not out of breath when i go up the stairs. I weigh 95 kg, so lost 4.9 kg. Amazing!!!:)
I do feel healthier and continuing with the diet to lose more weight.

Fat free foods have a higher sugar content to make the product more palatable. Same with diet pop. I'm on day 3 of cutting processed sugar now cold turkey (I'll update after 10 days), and I finally feel the cravings subsiding. But I'm going slow. I have not cut out flour or dairy yet, but I have made it more minimal, like switching to tortillas and flatbread/drinking water. Day 2 was the hardest for me... I had to turn down homemade strawberry ice cream, and the case of cokes that've been sitting on the table since before day 1.
Here are some changes (but mind that I am 22 and female)
    - I've had no bloating, I used to constantly switch the notches on my watch, but that's gone.
    - My night owl behaviors are going away (Also taking vitamin D3)
    - The tiny bumps on my upper arms and thighs are starting to go away
    - My taste is changing, and now plain veggies taste stronger and more appealing than before
    - Not drowsy throughout the day
    - Getting deeper, better rest
Overall, I'm glad I tried this. I have better self-esteem, and I don't desire to overeat. I swear sugar makes you hungrier.

I'm so motivated to exercise, and even think about it through the day. I feel really happy and my sleep schedule is as perfect as clockwork now. 😄

I stopped just over 2 months ago. It is very true that the more you eat the more you crave. Literally had to fight the cravings and distract myself all the time. After about 3 days the cravings stopped. I only have a very small amount of anything sugary now, and only occasionally. I was having a ridiculous amount before that ....well it felt like that to me, though probably not as much as my husband is still consuming. It was mainly chocolate with me.

I’m currently on the Daniel Fast which prohibits added sugar. Sugar is definitely addictive, you can feel your body craving it. I go through sugar withdrawals on about day 3 (sometimes later) which includes headaches and fatigue. So easy to get hooked back on sugar again when you come off it, so I will probably continue fasting like this occasionally throughout the year.

I didn't realize how addictive sugar was until I went on the keto diet for 30 days. I had to come off of it for medical reasons and decided to have a cinnamon roll, against all my better judgement. I could not believe how overpowering the sweetness was, and how little flavour was in it, firstly. But then I was blown away that despite not liking the taste and and wanting to stop, I kept eating and eating, feeling like a slave to the compulsive urge to just lose myself in it. I was so blown away because I'd never realized what it was really like all the years of having a sugar-filled diet, and how disgusting it actually is to eat the food.

Eating protein at meals, removing sugary drinks, and switching to the right amount and type of starch foods, I agree, are important strategies for removing sugar cravings. however, I've found that including occasional intentional treats, instead of quitting 100% of sugar, is more successful for clients over the long-term.

You should feel very proud of yourself for that accomplishment, as so many people can't ever even bring themselves to think seriously about the decision itself. But you've done it, and now you know more than most.
So what little or big things do you think eventually contributed to you not being able to stay away anymore? What would you do more or differently hypothetically if you should ever go at it again, or what advices would you give someone like you who wanted to seriously do it and not break?

@@GhANeC I think you should find some healthy and tasty recipes. I was lazy and the mistake I made was not really looking into these and so my meals were kind of tasteless which made me miss sugar. Lack of money and finacial dependency also contributed to that.
My family did and didn't help aswell. Even though my mom was willing to buy me some healthy stuff, It wasn't really enough. The sweets were always available and for the first time it took a lot of will power to say no to them, especially when I saw my sibling eating my favourite sweets right infront of me. After some time the will power started to fade. I also noticed that my cravings appear when I wanted to watch a movie. Since I always had some snack to go with it, the movie for me was just way more fun with good food. So again, I missed sugar.
I didn't have any physical withdrawal symptoms for some reason.
Overall, I think my failure was caused by jumping to diet straight away without any baby steps.
I restricted myself too much, both because of my laziness and lack of ingredients needed. And my will power wasn't strong enough after 3 weeks.
      Thx for asking btw
