I suppose you could play it on viols, or make an arrangement, but it was written for cellos. Vivaldi sometimes arranged his own music for other instruments, so why not?
Having now listened to the three movements you have on UA-cam, and admired the bravura of the allegro finale, I definitely think this slow movement is the highlight of the piece. The soloists are superb, and the accompanists do a wonderfully sensitive job of providing the necessary support. All in all, a great performance :-) and I'd love to hear Voices of Music perform live. Any chance of seeing you in country Australia - specifically, in Mildura VIC or Wentworth NSW? We have a lively program of world-class music going on in the Mallee and Riverina!
@@AriannaCunningham Vivaldi's own holograph manuscript doesn't have any marking, but Baroque composers usually expected cadential improvisation. Sometimes you'll see a fermata at a cadence, which is an explicit invitation to extemporize.
I love the cello and i’m learning to play it very well
It's a fine instrument.
Absolutely heart-wrenching. I've never heard this movement performed with such a passionate dialogue between the two cellos.
Don't stop posting music ...
please...this is paradise.
Greetings from Spain
Wouldn't it be great to wake up in the morning, with an ensemble like this playing in your living room?
@pathhiker This is such a great performance. These people know how to play Baroque music!
Yes, and one of the cellos has five strings. Fun!

Absolutely love the timbres of the baroque instruments...very like a human voice; not so metallic sounding as modern ones.

+Yo Yo! Australia! Would be so cool.....
Wait a sec - the Cadenza had a bit of a Schumann concerto in it!!
Katharine van der Beek Don't tell anyone.
Also Hayd'n concerto hahaha, nice touch!
In the score, does it say to make up your own cadenza or play what's written at the end of the 2nd movement? Nice Cadenzas by the way!

does the man's cello have a different tuning?? how is he playing the high G in first position?!
interesting. no end pins
Did I hear somebody say: SCHUMANN?? Great performance, congrats you guys.
Is there a video for the first movement too ?
Vivaldi =Genie Groet, G Ruiter (bolsward) Friesland TheNetherlands
The restless audience detracts otherwise that was "kick ass."
Haydn???? Schumann???????
Wishwin Sureeratanakorn well, there might have been just a note or two of Haydn in the cadenza, but don't tell anyone.
