The Good-Ass Game That Reclaimed Its Throne: The Story of Tekken
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 гру 2019
- For the longest time, Tekken was fighting games’ best kept secret.
For years, it lived in the shadows of more popular fighting games. More known fighting games. More competitive fighting games.
But when the other games fell flat, Tekken finally got its shot. Its chance to prove that none of that was true. That Tekken could be the biggest, best and most exciting fighting game on the planet.
And this is its story.

The one thing that always amazes me about Arslan Ash is that he came from this scene no one even thought about existing, destroys everyone in his way and then just casually mentioning that he's not even the best player in his region. How can anyone react to this?

@@RuffWarl0ck Gerald and Max are huge in finding my lost love for fighting games after ignoring them for more than a decade. After Tekken Tag Tournament i lost the love. These dudes and games like Tekken 7, Guitly Gear and Skullgirls brought it back and me straight into the FGC...

Totally agreed! Sports documentary style videos for E-Sports is genuinely a fantastic way to make the world pay attention to E-Sports and that it is as exciting as normal sports.
And even after Arslan's legendary run to win two consecutive EVOs for the first time ever, he wasn't even nominated for the Game Awards. Really sad. He deserves it.
And Jump Force gets nominated over Power Rangers Battle for the Grid. Game Awards is a joke
Fighting games generally still don't get as much recognition as other genres.
Honestly those guys are so tone-deaf to anything that’s not League of Legends or CS:GO or something like that. Something truly historic happened with Arslan and he’s not even a nominee.
snair it's because the fighting games competitive scene unfortunately aren't as popular as League and CSGO, but maybe this could change with the new League fighting game.

That's why I love México, every single Tortilleria (places where they make fresh tortillas to sell) and ice cream stores have some form of arcade machines on them, so you can always play SF, Tekken, MvC or King of Fighters in them, and since most ice cream shops (the most famous across mexico are Michoacana stores) are found across or close to schools, you can imagine how many students duel in them.

You guys are amazing. This video brought me to tears. This was the ode to Tekken that we have all been waiting for and I am so thankful. Thank you TheScore. You're awesome ❤️
Man. I'm proud of Tekken. I was born and raised in the Virgin islands. We had one arcade on the island in the 90's we were all competing against each other in street fighter 2, samurai showdown and Tekken. I have always been excited about street fighter but Tekken gave me a different feeling. It's so good to see it mature into the badass fighting game it always was. #tekken4ever
One of the first games i played as a kid was Tekken 4 on my PS2. I still to this day get nostalgia whenever i hear the soundtrack. There was nothing cooler than playing on that lab level with the fog on the floor and hearing Brian laugh while that background music played...
Im in love with tekken now
@Miscellaneous Mind I started Tekken 4, and I started playing again now
Tekken 3 here, remember like it was yesterday :)
Great. Master the ways of Tekken, and throw that old man off the cliff.
I've said it once, I'll say it again, and I'll always say it: Fighting games are the best esports because you can never not get hyped from seeing a sickass combo. It doesn't matter how complicated or execution heavy it is, if it looks sick and that health bar is shrinking with each punch or kick, you get hyped.
And no other fighting game has captured that spirit as well as Tekken has with Tekken 7. FGOTC in my heart
its also the best because its 100% of pure skill, both mental and muscle memory, very like a traditional sports. Alot other esport games have rng/luck factor
gustinex i guess u never heard or played CSGO. I’m a huge tekken fan, but CSGO is literally everything u guys mentioned, but even harder to master on professional level. And besides that, tekken is 1v1, where CSGO is 5v5. Maybe it’s not even correct to compare those games with eachother
@@benjaminbeatz2063 yea it's not. Shooters are second to fighting games in terms of hype, I just feel like theres a lot more you need to know to be properly impressed in shooters.
@@HairCutsEmo Like what? Because seeing pros play cod or rainbow 6 siege is very entertaining and both require skill and hours of practice. In fact, they're more complicated yet easy to understand for a newcomer. Not saying either is better, but that it's foolish to say that shooters can't compete if it were a competition.
@@Lalo3g1 to start of, I'm supreme in CSGO and around 6k hours in the game, and I've competed in locals so those are my credentials in CSGO. And theres so many small details that most casual viewers will not catch. KennyS getting an AWP ace on inferno looks sick as shit to everyone, but noticing how GeT_RiGhT (F) is always being so calm and strategic in his lurking and astralis grenade usage and fnatics pocket strats you see them perform flawlessly every time they play overpass takes so much more knowledge of the game to truly appreciate the high level of play. Fighting games it kinda depends, but it's like most tournaments I watch its slow paced enough for the commentators to explain everything so meticulously and precise so you too as a casual can appreciate how well these guys are playing, but the commentators are sooooo much more emotional and invested in the match than most other esports and they just spew hype over you and you get so hooked. Bottom line: imo shooters have more fine details than fighting games that you need to be experienced to notice and fighting games have S tier casters
After years defending Tekken while others bashed it.. it feels good to know Tekken is back on top! Grats Tekken 7!
People who bash on Tekken are mere fools who cannot begin to comprehend how legendary the franchise happens to be......pure ignorance, I must say.......

We Indians Literally Grow Up With Tekken 3.Its Little Bit In Our Modern Culture Even Now Mostly Every Millinial And GenZ Nows Whats Tekken Is Even If They Haven't Played It.
We Got Small Shops Having Arcade Machine With Tekken In It Only In Most Areas Of Almost Every City
@lolumad If what he said is true, we might not have to wait long to find out.
@lolumad Our Countries Shares Lots Of Common Things We Are The Same People With Mostly Same Things Just Divided By Borders That Includes Bangladesh Too.
And I Never Said We Have Pro Players I Just Said We Have Grown Up With Tekken And Lots Of People Are Aware It.
Most People Played Tekken For Fun After School Including Me And Arcade Mashine Were Not Mostly Gaming Shops They Was Just Normal Shops With Tekken Arcade Machine Cause Kids Love It.
And The Time I Used To Play It We Dont Even Know About Professional Matches Hell We Dont Even Have Internet As Cheap As Now So Everyone Can Have It. Learning A Move Was Probably How We Play It Cause Shops Wont Let Us See Move Lists And 10 Move Combos Is What We Called Combos.

This was such a great video. Tekken has so many great stories and moments it's truly amazing. As someone who got into Virtua Fighter during its peak, I'd be interested to see exactly when (and why) tekken overtook that series. VF is now dead and Tekken is stronger than ever. VF had some very cool mechanics and a lot of depth, but I suspect what it lacked was a sense of flashiness and style. One game featured a generic Chinese guy, and the other had Bruce Lee punching the opponent in the nutsack.
Virtua Fighter is a much more complex game with deeper fighting mechanics, all characters are viable, but Tekken went for the normies and won in that department.
@@franciscor390 "Normies" lol ok
Ps1 install base, different controls
@@minxy6121 He's really not wrong though. Tekken has a lot of depth, but it's also very accessible. You can understand Tekken to a reasonable level and start pulling off combos and utilizing proper movement and spacing to a basic degree within a day or two of playing. Virtua Fighter is absolutely nothing like that at all. The game is like running straight in to a brick wall in comparison when you start.
Virtua Fighter was still more widespread than Tekken in the arcades in the late 90s and early 2000s, but Tekken 3 on PS1 was the king on home consoles and the subsequent games built on that.

TBH Tekken has always been a popular game. Its rise in competitive FGC popularity is really complication and a mix of things. I think a lot of the player base wasnt aware of the scene compared to the capcom games or less willing to go out and compete in the game. Tekken 7 is a great game and people enjoy it a enough to go out and compete, Also international travel and world tour has helped it grow as well which was less common back in the early 2000. SFV's rocky launch and the disaster launch of MvCI also likely helped a lot too. Im a SF player who started with Tekken (Tekken 5 and DR being the ones I enjoyed the most) so its cool to see it grow even though I dont play Tekken 7 myself often.
