Pearl Harbor DVD - Why Letterbox?

A possibly interesting featurette on why Pearl Harbor was formatted they way it was when it came to the DVD release of the film.

The actual pan and scan version of the movie on VHS is in letterbox 16:9 with the attack sequence expanding slightly to 1.85. The HDTV version follows the same method. This featurette is also on the Director's Cut DVD of the film in the USA.

Thank god the tv modified version on vhs is high quality letterboxed!

That's true. But the movie itself was actually Filmed In Panavision (anamorphic), so 2.39:1 is the proper format.
