There are so many ways to paint fur but this has to be one of my favourite methods. Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried this technique or have any other tips to share.

i would like to see a full couple of minute video of you actually watering down the color to the sweet spot for glazing instead of a couple of seconds and then back to the canvas cam. i dont seem to get it right with what i saw and maybe a little close up video could help me get there

I have seen other tutorials showing this technique but you have shown the whole painting and it makes so much more sense seeing it from beginning to end. Obviously it takes time between drying the stages but the building up layers shows well here. A lovely painting. Thanks. XXB

Your fur painting tutorials have helped me so much!! I found my niche of painting horse portraits, and your videos taught me color values and a logical approach/process! I also downloaded the Procreate app and it was mind blowing!!! Such an amazing tool!! Especially when I painted my first white horse. She turned out so much better than I anticipated ☺️ thanks again!!

What an absolutely brilliant painting and video!
I have struggled with colour nearly all of my painting life. My initial underpaintings, whether in monochromatic colour or black-white-grey-neutrals, are always pretty good and get me off to a good start. Then comes the colour stage and no matter how hard I try to mix, match and apply colour, my artwork soon goes to hell and I seem to lose and destroy my perfect underpainting! I always get there in the end but oh-boy, it takes some doing sometimes.
All too often I find myself going backwards, repainting again and again 'til I get it right, giving myself a helluva an extra work while wasting precious time. It's like a battle, like I'm 'fighting' (with) the process and the painting fights back! Thankfully, as I said, I usually win in the end but must confess that the frustrating struggle takes much of the enjoyment and satisfaction away. Making art and painting should not be like that! Brings a new meaning to 'Art Therapy' coz therapy is what I need by the time I'm finished! 😵‍💫🤪
However, on a much more positive note, I really like this glazing technique and think I could do well with it. Could be the answer to my dilemma! So thank you sooo much for a super demo that has inspired me to also try a new approach!

I've just seen a more historic one of yours where you paint just using dark to light and with just brush strokes to achieve fur so this NEW technique which uses glazes just compliments what you were already doing. Nice to learn new techniques it makes the journey more interesting, XxB

Using water to glaze will cause your paint to break down, meaning the longevity of your painting is shortened. Using glazing medium keeps the binder in the paint from breaking down.

Would you consider putting some of your wonderful lion and tiger paintings in _real time_ on your Patreon channel? It's not unusual for realism instructors to post painting lessons lasting ten hours or more there. If necessary, you can charge more for your time in so doing.

Yes, I love this technique! I’m still practicing and learning but this has been a technique I’ve used and want to play with some more. I noticed you had Arteza paints at the beginning of the video. How do you find them? I usually use Liquitex Basics but always looking for others to add to my stash. Thank you for all your videos both here and on Patreon.

I loved this white tiger glazing video even more than the parakeet glazing video. I may be biting off a little more than I can handle, but I have to try a white tiger as my first attempt at this method! I can always paint over it, right? :o) Thank you

Thank you for sharing! I also use a similar technique BUT my issue is when
I varnish, it seems as if the wash pulls with the varnish, so I end up with streaks 😢. Maybe the varnish? I use liquidtex. May I ask, what are your thoughts? Thanks!
