Cool you found Matabele ants, the eggs they were carrying were likely termite larvae pillaged from a mound they'd just attacked. Fascinatingly a study published last year found that they're the only ant that, after a battle, rescues fallen comrades, carries them back to the nest and then heals the injuries by licking.
i love defenders. also love toyotas. i did a trip through papua new guinea in a troopy and fell in love with it. took everything we threw at it. crashed it 20 meters off a cliff, got dragged back up by an excavator and kept on going. it was wet season so the mud was insane. any roads that are not used by mining are neglected by the government and graded by private companies. the roads get cut so deep they call them tunnels, the mud is literally pilled up as high as the roof and we couldn't open the side doors! loving watching your trip, it's giving me itchy feet!
James L Hahah, no ways that was amazing to read! I read that out loud to Ben & we were trying to imagine the different scenarios going on, particularly the excavator part, that's when you should have been vlogging, we'd be watching everyday 🙌🏼
I love hearing what music you guys are listening to! I'm sure you have already but if you haven't you should check out the newish Mumford and Sons album with the African vibes!
This extended road trip expedition across Africa is turning out to be an awesome UA-cam series of videos. Have you guys thought of doing ongoing extended road trip expeditions just like this but across other countries we all would like to see … like across China and Russia and Canada. AND if you do so, how about using Patreon to help fund the expense and allow people to feel like they are part of the expedition, the adventure. A couple thousand supporters each contribution a buck or two for each video is easy for each supporter and would garnish huge support for you that would enable income you deserve for all your hard work producing this great content.
David Haney Thanks David :) This is certainly the beginning of the adventure for sure, we have spoken about doing Canada before, maybe South America & certainly more Africa :) I think we're going to see where this film leads when it's done, but we have some ideas for future trip funding :)
07:26 The road so bad I think no one been along it in ages. 08:02 The ants are HUGE. One ant is like 5 ants from my little English garden. Well done you got there. Windscreen needs cleaning. 09:57 Sorry your campsite too expensive. Hope you do not run out of money. The campsite doesn't looks so good as others.
my country is so beautiful, but the roads and corruption is killing it.. I'm not gone lie, my heart hurt seeing that road, we can do much better..but ehh u knw whos in charge.. but anyway luvn the vlogs Nicole..
YoungHils VLOG It's a pity hey, that park & Campsite is beautiful but yes, it's lost a lot of love that's for sure. But you know they'll make you that $70 regardless though 🙈
Just to save you guys in some money on fuel and perhaps on tires, they should only be deflated when traveling on soft sand because of the larger contact area preventing the car from getting stuck. In any other harder surface it just creates more resistance for the car and so you burn more fuel and the tire wears unevenly, although you might want to lower the pressure little in case of sharp stones o avoid punctures :) Apart from that, great vlog and what an awesome adventure. I wish I could do something like that in the future, I really want to visit Africa. Keep up the awesome vlogs!
Mateo Proaño Thank you :) We actually learnt our lesson the hard way with a puncture on a stone (luckily we had 2 spares), haha but all good since then :)
Nicole Eddy I guess it wouldn't be a real adventure without a puncture haha but glad you're both really prepared and you're both alright :) have a great and safe rest of your adventure!
The ants look like Matabele ants raiding a termite colony :) Also tell Ben he needs a radiator guard for driving through grass (if you're driving through alot of it) - will prevent seed build up and potential fire hazard. Best of luck on your adventure.....
Nicole I was just wondering, do you guys let your ma or someone know where you are or going? Just wondering cause if something happens and there's no way of getting help or whatever someone at least knows where you were last
how yer goin mate orrite, epic, epic vid nicole. You gotta let Ben hang it on the toyotas, its just what we landy drivers do. And don't be to harsh on us Aussies, we are not a bad mob.
David Barry Haha, nah, you Aussies are an alright bunch ya know. I'm too nervous to go to Australia because I know my accent will become permanently Australian after 1 trip 😂 But I'm kind of alright with that.
You gotta come over mate, our command of the english is not too different to yours. And WHEN you come to Aussie, try and go a little further than Sydney, I'm a few hours north of Melbourne and its a beautiful place. Cheers
If you are caught with a weapon in a national park in Africa expect summary prosecution as a poacher - this goes with severe jail time! Also, the dangers of wildlife in Africa are overstated - common sense takes one a lot further than a gun ever would...
Haha good to know! I want to visit SA desperately since I am watching your and Ben's vlogs ... :D In German there 's a quite similiar expression called lecker meaning something like "tasty"
How safe you think Africa is? I'm asking because of the two swiss people who has been murderd lately... Is it realy like that, if you have money and you kinda show it, you have to be very careful?? I always wanted to go to Africa with my car, but when i'm reading susch storys I'm not so sure about that :)
Hey Vernon, sorry that you took offence to that comment & it really was said in jest and most certainly not with intention to upset anyone. Apologies again.
Finish Matt's vlog only to see Nicole's pop up. Please do more of these travels, the content is amazing!

Шикарный выпуск. Какие же там красивые места.
Gonarezhou National Park has a savage 4wd track entry too, except we did it in a 2wd Nissan ute :)

Rhodesia was nice...
Saw a Cleveland Golf hat. Someone knows what the best wedges are.

The moon looks incredible in Africa.

Bliksem Klat Yes, we actually have one :) That was luckily the only time that we needed it on the whole trip.
Nicole I was just wondering, do you guys let your ma or someone know where you are or going? Just wondering cause if something happens and there's no way of getting help or whatever someone at least knows where you were last
Jea Hil Yes, I'm always in contact with my family letting them know my route beforehand :)
Nicole Eddy o ok cool. Enjoy

jay bradley Haha, feel free to send me your address & I'll post them to you :) They were unfortunately the last glasses resort in the car!
What do you do if you run out of money?
The great ant migration 🐜
Should've taken drone footage
OMG those ants are so big! If they bike you they will take a huge chunk of skin
Good times!
Pumba is so photogenic. I mean nothing like your colonial look though. :P
Maro Krkaland Thank you, I try ;)
How awesome is it to have lion duty. :D
kind of wilderness there :-)
The ants were actually really cool.
No Cameron ! Not toasties! Fok. Braaibroodjies!!! 😝
That road is ridiculous.
in a good way
zeromiles2empty Haha but also in a bad way.
Don't they have speed limits on those smooth Zimbabwean "autobahns"? :-)
I love you my friend
Do you carry a pistol or rifle for protection from wild animals, or is that frowned on?
David Haney Nope, you need a gun license for that. And wild animals won't generally come near you or your tent so you're really safe :)
If you are caught with a weapon in a national park in Africa expect summary prosecution as a poacher - this goes with severe jail time!
Also, the dangers of wildlife in Africa are overstated - common sense takes one a lot further than a gun ever would...
Pumba is so gansta
Wtf is Nicole saying at 8:35 "This is lecker fresh".... Lecker? Is it south african? Help me pls, I don't get it lol
David Moset Haha, Lekker :) In Afrikaans (and Dutch) it means nice. If you ever visit SA, you'll hear people say it all the time.
Haha good to know! I want to visit SA desperately since I am watching your and Ben's vlogs ... :D
In German there 's a quite similiar expression called lecker meaning something like "tasty"
You should colorgrade your videos if you don't already to make them even cooler!
morgan riddiford I do a slight colour-grade yes.
👏 👏 👏
Does this park really want to have visitors? Only the most dedicated ones make it, haha
lsmeteor Haha, most people take boats in via the lake :)
Looks like hyena tracks with those kidney-shaped toes.
Terry M Oh yeah? So you reckon hyena not lion? I love learning about spoor!
How safe you think Africa is? I'm asking because of the two swiss people who has been murderd lately...

"you got a new look, its called the colonialist" WHAT THE FUCK
Hey Vernon, sorry that you took offence to that comment & it really was said in jest and most certainly not with intention to upset anyone. Apologies again.
@@NicoleEddy1 i was really enjoying your videos up to that point, its worth noting that isu ma zimbabweans takuregerera hako, urarame neNyasha
Girl, please get some proper sun glasses...
