    Wonderful video! Thank you very much for taking the time and posting.
    In my pad change I found out there's a caliper with a seized piston in need of replacing. Off to Knucklehead Tire for the part!

    The corolla in this video is an e12 hatchback, sold in Europe, Japan and Australia. This model covered the 02 to 08.

    Peter Finn... Re. your comment on retracting the Caliper Piston... While you are probably already aware of the following and just not mentioned it... just a precaution for others.
    You mention that if fitting new brake pads the Brake Caliper Piston can be retracted with Slipjaw Pliers/Waterpump pliers - Yes, exactly what I use. However, the piston should Never be retracted, as shown, without first opening the Bonnet and checking the Brake Master Cylinder fluid level. Otherwise, there is a distinct possibility of overflowing the brake Master Cylinder reservoir, as Brake fluid in the caliper is "pushed back up the brake line". Especially, if the brake pads are on/near wear limits and the brake fluid level has, at some stage, been topped up to the full mark. So, the bonnet should be opened prior to retraction of the Caliper Pistons, to check the Brake fluid level. SECONDLY, the OLD Fluid in the Brake Caliper should be "Bled off" and NEVER "pushed back up the brake line". eg. a 8mm ring spanner placed on the Brake Caliper Bleed nipple, a Brake bleeder hose/bottle assembly attached to nipple, the nipple undone/released and barely tightened...
    Then, the slipjaw pliers adjusted and placed in a suitable position, and held by one hand, ready to squeeze and retract the Caliper Piston.
    As one starts just starts to squeeze the slip jaw pliers, the brake nipple is released with the other hand and the Piston fully retracted with the other. The operation is coordinated so that the Brake nipple is closed/tightened just as the piston is FULLY retracted.

      Hi & Greetings
      Brake Caliper, fluid bleed off when replacing brake pads, is best practice and isn't ONLY to
      prevent brake Master Cylinder overflow... I am referring here to: Dot 3/4/5.1- Glycol brake fluid, and not any that use Silicon or Vegetable based. Not only does [Glycol based] brake fluid naturally absorb moisture, but by the time any brake maintenance becomes due, the residual brake fluid in the caliper is usually dark, discoloured and contaminated, due to possible overheating etc., and needs to be removed/replaced. Your comments: re. position of the calipers on the piston, the dust danger, and hanging up the caliper are all common trade practice. I don't use cord for caliper holding... but a piece of wire with a hook pre bent on one end - beside me before the caliper bolts are removed. The caliper is eased outwards to clear the rotor/disc, the wire hook attached, and the caliper USUALLY raised towards the suspension spring and the top of the wire folded over a coil. I say USUALLY, because vehicles without McPherson strut suspension etc., or eg. torsion bar suspension, or where there is absolutely nothing to hang the Caliper too.... I have had to have something handy eg. stand or box ready to place/rest it on. You are correct re. not causing any stress to the brake hose. On the odd occasion, I have seen a brake hose with a so called "pigtail" after brake repairs from the caliper having being rotated a full 360 degrees prior to refitting - and not always from DIY persons work either. Cheers

    Peter I appreciate your time and effort, but for Toyota Corollas sold in North America and many other countries, ninth generation covers 2000-2006, and tenth generation covers 2006-2013. This video which states it covers 2002-2008 Corollas would actually span two very different Corolla models with different parts. For example I have a 2005 Corolla and my rear brakes are nothing like the vehicle in your video.

      rexyhill Hello and Thanks for comment. I need to do new video on 2005 US Corolla.

    • @rexyhill
      @rexyhill 9 років тому

      Yeah Ikhtesham I thought so too, but the rear brakes in this video are definitely disc brakes on Peter's Corolla and others sold in his country, which is why I made that comment before. And it looks like the 2015's have rear discs now on the S premium package here in the US. I don't know why they don't just do 4 wheel discs on all of them like so many other car companies.

      It is not just US corolla.... The majority of Corollas have drum brakes at the rear. Rear Discs are the exception on a few models only eg. GT-S and XRS. I have a 2008 wagon that also has drums on the rear.

    hello Peter Finn Good day to you.. I really like your videos. I just one question. in your estimate, how long that the pad last in everyday use of my car going to my office.? I mean the pads how long that i should replace it? thanks in advance

      Roy D Hello. If you have original Toyota pad from Toyota dealership, they last about 10 years. But if you have second hand no original pad, they could worn out within 1 year. The quality matters.
