When I was a kid some girls missed the first few days of school. Back then I didn't know that people did that. Only now do I realize it's disrespectful to the teacher and maybe the kid. I read it as teacher "what you have to say is not important" or "sorry kid what you're missing is not important". What are you teaching your kids? Maybe I was just envious and wanted to not be there.

Yes, exactly, as a teacher I view it as disrespect. I value family time and am very understanding, but then I think that a lot of kids learn this indirect disrespect for teachers/school from their parents and that is a whole other soapbox lol!!!
