trainwreck of a reaction..... including a literal break for the train
Almost all of her songs can be distinctly interpreted in many ways because she’s a beautiful poet, superb song builder, and has great teams that she works with to create visuals for her music. I have to admit though you hit the spot on the core meaning of what she was feeling creating this song/video, losing a great friend to suicide. Although its not that hard when you see the visuals, you’d be surprised how many still miss the point by miles, the suicide is just to distracting to a lot. You can always count on her to go to that place of darkness/deepness/light/hope coexisting always, its a hallmark of her art to take you there if you choose.

Summertime Sadness was written about Lana's best friend who committed suicide. ... Girls especially show their love for their best friends in numerous ways, in this case she is kissing her best friend goodbye. She also wants to see her again so she can tell her how much she meant to her and how much she loved her.
Her life is so tragic.. Her ex died due to drugs overdose and this.. No wonder there is always some sadness In her voice....

much appreciated! it did hit hard. the video for sure didnt help.... we goto a lot of concerts together and usually drink a lil and party it up, so some of the memories that are older are like flashes of the fun standout moments and the way the video was showing moments like that kinda hit home with me

Oh and I love how at the very end you can see kinda of a ghost of herself walking with her.... and how like loosing someone special can make you feel like falling with them or a ghost of your former self or how you were when they were around is no longer there.... just a ghost that walks with you. I lost my bf from high school years ago. We went to prom together. She died in a car crash. I still think of how she made me feel just knowing she was around or reachable......

its nice to be reminded that some songs can take you to that place.. i think to some degree if something can make you sad about the thought of losing things, its helps you appreciate them more, at least thats the silver lining i try to take from it all

This song does have such a sad undertone. With it being about a friend of hers dying it makes it even harder. It’s wild that this is her most popular song of her career.... even
though she had so many masterpieces to follow. I can honestly say that I love love so many of her songs. It’s wild to think how she has so many at that level of greatness. The best Born to Die era song is Dark Paradise though. And the extra tracks on the deluxe edition are great also. Wait till u get to Young & Beautiful or Happiness is a Butterfly or Old Money... the TEARS!!!

My God I couldn't love you guys more! Excited for the next reactions! Also I would like to add something. Not to take away the emotion from the song, but many believe she wrote it because a friend of hers passed away. It is actually a fan-made story, or at least she has never said anything like that. In an interview, though, she said that she wrote this song at the end of the summer in Santa Monica, reflecting on her Sadness and all her emotions. She has a strong connection with summer: her birthday is on the 21st of June which is the first day of summer! As regards the video they said that they wanted to portray a story between two friends or lovers, whatever you want, where one can't live without the other. So I think that is what inspired the fan-made story that started circulating.
However she knows too well the tragic loss of a loved one, in fact one of her ex boyfriends passed away due to a heroin overdose, and she wrote songs about him. I'm so sorry for her. I hope you guys are fine now, and you're always loved! ❤

This song, especially now, has such a deep meaning to me. I lost my older brother last year and it's insane because I never thought I would lose someone like him. I always would play him Lana and show him the songs I love by her and he always said this song made him sad and to not play it. And now listening to the lyrics of it, it's literally how I feel now that he's no longer her. “Think I’ll miss you forever..” That like seemed to the line that made you feel the most. Just wanted to share, I lost my home and nearly my partner in a house fire. He went back in rescue our cat, miraculously he just made it out after the kitchen gas ignited but our cat never made it out. At the time, this song was popular and I always associated that line with the memory of our cat I had lived with for seven years. “Think I’ll miss you forever”. Very profound and the melody reflects it. Lana has a way as a Scorpio Rising Cancer with Leo Moon to really find those key emotional moments in life and magnify them for all to understand. Your reaction was genuine and I share your response to it.

Not many grew up depressed! I used to go to her concerts in 2010 and they were never super crowded! It took people 15 plus years to find who she is, many slept on lana deal rey😢😢

The song is about a friend of hers committed suicide.
I remember one time Lana gave an interview she was going through depression and she told the interviewer she wanted to die. Instead of people and the media supporting her and feeling compassion for her they attacked her and called her a bad person for "glamorizing suicide" but she wasn't doing that, she was just saying she was unhappy and wanted to die, I think she was crying for help and it was sad no one cared they just attacked her for saying that. I think now it would be handled differently by the media but this was in 2014 so people weren't understanding about depression and mental illnesses.
