- Lana Del Rey in her song Summertime Sadness. The craziest thing about this song is that I can sing this song with happiness and yet the words coming out of my mouth are "Sadness". Is that strange or what?
I did not understand the suicidal bridge jumps in the song. But I still loved the song.
I do believe that happiness and sadness are choices. Even though we wrap our emotions into them....we can choose not to be sad. We can choose to be happy. It is a tough subject, I know. But this song brought up the topic.

I absolutely get what you mean by feeling happiness with such sad songs. I think it's life balancing itself out and helping us appreciate the feeling of sadness therefore reminding us of how diverse life is and how lucky we are to experience so many contrasting emotions. One of my many lana rants are about how she's known for being an artist with no joy, when she mostly writes about life as it is and is the only one that actually makes me love life even more, she's very underrated in that aspect imo, but I also understand people might need to connect to the art to experience my same happiness in listening to songs like old money or bartender. She's amazing, makes me love the highs and the lows of living. Thanks for the reaction, the feeling of joy is shared🤗
There will be people commeting she wrote it about a friend who commited suicide but it’s just a fan theory based on the video and doesn’t really connect with the lyrics. Lana explained how she wrote it in an interview but it’s a bit underwhelming, I guess that’s why people like the mistirious explanation. She said something like that it’s ironic that one of her biggest hits is about nothing special, just driving arround LA in summer and feeling nostalgic (not a quote, she said something along those lines)
This was the first LDR song I’d ever heard back when it came out, and I was hooked! My fave of hers is “West Coast.” It’s such a vibe
