  • We've been podcasting for nearly 6 years, I thought it might be useful for someone out there to know about the mics we have used in the past and the mics we are about to try in the near future.

I’ve been watching a lot of these lewitt 440 vids. And there is something about it. The detail on the top end without being sibilant is impressive. It sounds natural with a natural presence. It’s hard to explain. But most of the mics you tested here have that “I’m talking on a close mic” sound. The lewitt just sounds more real and detailed. Does sound like it needs a very subtle cut of .5 to 1db at about 800khz

So i purchased one. Been using it for about a month. And I’m digging it. Also sounds good on electric guitar.

I have used the Lewitt, Rode, but keep returning to the MXL. I hate to admit I find the MXL990 compliments my voice best for radio. It may not be as detailed, but it definitely helps to cover any extra "mouth noise", requiring less eq in post. Smoother to my ears.

I've been using Rodes for 11 years worth of podcasting and adore them. Currently using the NT2A and it's absolutely fantastic. I don't know about the NT1A, but on mine, I can adjust directionality and such to ensure it only picks up my voice.
Thanks for the video. That Lewitt surprised me by how good it sounds.

Hi Ryan! I thought the SM57 and the Lewitt 440 sounded the best. The Lewitt needs the foam windscreen for the S and P though. Sounding good!

How timely. Just last night, I was discussing with a couple of friends an idea one of them came up with for a podcast series, and what equipment we would need to do one, including mics.
Are you using a hardware or software compressor?

    • @60CycleHumcast
      @60CycleHumcast  5 років тому +2

Adam Fox software. Just the stock compressor in final cut.

I am a singer and currently using SAMSON C01u USB Condenser Microphone and want to upgrade my home vocal recording setup. I am confused with the following microphones:
      1. Lewitt LCT 240 PRO
      2. Lewitt LCT 440 PURE
      3. MXL 770
      4. MXL 990
      Note : I don't have a treated room.
      Looking forward for your suggestion.

Lewitt LCT 440 beautiful mids and highs but way to boomy, IMO the MXL 990 is the overall Winner here

Wow I'm definitely going to save up a little cash to get the Lewitt. Not only is it a great mic, but to be great while also _including_ a shock mount, wind screen, and custom fit little pop filter that's just the right size and doesn't get in the way? For under $300? That thing is awesome! It definitely sounded the most "real" to me. And I'm just guessing since I've never heard you in person... But I just mean that it sounded like it had the widest frequency range. It didn't sound thin in the mids or low end, but still sounded the most clear and crisp in the highs.

I use Rode Procasters instead of 57s for my guitar cabinets, pretty similar sound but a closer cardioid I think, and iirc they work for vocals. Used to have some NT-1s, those Lewitts sure look pretty interesting. I think I prefer the sound of the condensers on your vox.
Random trick from a guy who usually does it wrong: bolt an SM-91 to a board and hang it from the ceiling for a room mic. That's what your off-axis condensers reminded me of. 🤔

Stupid NT1A shockmount comes with pop-filter welded to it, for this reason I can't place my NT1A close to my cab speaker, not everyone buys an NT1A for voice recording! What's the shockmount you are using on the NT1A?

    Dear Sir,
May I use my MXL 990 micorphone for recording a Dholak (an Indian beating instrument)?
I have already an MXL 990. Should I necessarily buy an XML 991 for recording the instrument?
    Please suggest me.

Hello sir. I am a Hip-Hopian musician. I'm setting up a home studio. I have an acoustic arrangement.
I'm going to get a microphone to work with Focusrite solo but I was hesitant.
I would be glad if you help.
    1-MXL 990
    2-MXL770
    3-RODE NT1A
    4-LEWIT LCT240PRO
    5-AKG P220
I would be very happy to make a ranking.

Nt1a is an industry standard but I’ve been loving my lewit. Mxl 990 is a great starter mic but if your already established might as well throw a little more money at something nicer.

The Lewitt seemed to be more vulnerable to pumpkin porcupine "p"s. Definitely needs the windscreen to protect it from "p"s. Actually, I thought that the Shure sounded best of these.

I bought a 990 and sent it back. It was said to be a LDC but it isn't. The little capsule sits in a big dummy ring so it looks big though the grill. Mine sounded thin and tinny. It is a waste of money and something of a poser.

  • @bennybe1977
