- I'm going to be making the most of the good weather thats happening here in the UK at the moment so today I got outside again to talk a little about the SP404-MK2 and some other topics related to the chanenl.
I also perform a couple of LOFI Hip-hop tracks that I've been working on recently.
I hope you liked the editing, vibe and beat performance. I'm looking forward to the next adventure!

#sp404mk2 #beatmaking #outdoors
I think the issue with DJ Looper was almost certainly a problem between the device and the headphones...😂
This beat is...incredible. Your talent is inspirational. Keep it up!
Much appreciated man. Thanks for that 🙏
Dope beats + the good old British summer and countryside = a really dope vibe all round 🔥
Much appreciated man! Thanks for tuning in 🙏
The beauty about the SP 404 mks 1 & 2 is the portability of them, and that they run on old school AA batteries, I told this to a friend of my late brother’s and mentioned “just like the old SP 404, the new one runs on AA batteries” his jaw dropped, and he responded “What thing made today runs on old school batteries?” Like Music does not have to be confined to an indoor space, and an SP 404 is lighter than an MPC (try lugging that in your backpack 🎒)
Loving the outdoors videos man! I personally would like to see more of it! I would also love to see a breakdown of your studio/ the gear you use to make beats and film your videos! I have been thinking about making UA-cam videos and posting beat videos on instagram and I honestly have no idea where to start.
Cheers man. Glad to hear it! I’ll be doing a gear related video for these videos very soon. Hopefully for the Thursday drop 🙌
Love the new style brother been watching for years and I’m glad you’re loving what you’re doin! Keep smashing it brother ❤
Appreciate it man! Thanks for the loyalty 🙏
Beats and bikes 🚴. Great combo.
Thanks for tuning in! Hopefully I'll be able to do more next spring/summer 👍
You are the best thanks for everything you've done for the sp community.
Thanks a lot! Very kind of you to say that 🙌🙏
Nice Video :) Very cool Intro, love the Editing/Cuts :)
Thanks a lot man. Appreciate that 🙏
For a moment I thought he rode all the way to a cornfield in Alabama… that would be impressive… great tune dude!
I feel you. SP is awesome. It's always involved somewhere in any beat I make even just to use for the effects. People say it's difficult to make beats on but I haven't really found that to be the case thanks to this channel. Second beat is niiiice👍
Glad I’ve helped you bro. I think it’s fun for cooking up ideas on but I do like the additional control of a DAW as I’ve mentioned in a lot of vids lately! Glad you liked the beat too. Thanks 🙏
I love all you vids bro really inspiring
Thanks so much man! 🙏
I wish Roland would add a way to sidechain the compressor, or other instruments/effects.
Yeah I'd love to see sidechain as an MFX
@@spvidz Sidechain as an MFX would be great, but in my opinion it would be even nicer if it was something that could just be enabled in settings or some menu to have it turned on and what is it targeting. That way MFX could be left for the more creative stuff. Having an expansion of effects would be rad to see in a future update from Roland to make chaining effects more robust.
Yeah there’s loads of empty mfx slots. Hope they get filled up 🙌
@@spvidz Filling up the empty slots would be great. I'd love to see a more robust process for applying effects and having whole chains one can set up and enable/disable to take things in drastically different directions. I think in terms of a performance device this would be massive.
Fun stuff. Seeing a video about the setup you use to record a performance video would be great. I was thinking about that and then you mentioned you would do it in a future video. I would definitely be interested in seeing your ideas on a setup for recording a performance with the SP404 mk2.
Good to hear. I’m hopeful I’ll get that out for Thursday 👍
Whole video was great, but I especially enjoyed that intro montage!🚴🙂
Appreciate the kind words, thanks a lot! 🙏
Keep doing you. We will be here to like and enjoy. The rumors can bug off a bag of... Cheers.
Thanks for the support. I’m learning that at the moment. Very scary branching out when there is a bit of an expectation about my content but I can’t avoid how much I enjoy making this style stuff at the moment! 🙏
You need to watch it cause someone might think your 404 case is a pillow and they will sit down on it!!
Jokes aside , digging your videos man. Keep em coming
😂
Nice jazzy intro and smooth beats man! 👌
Thanks a lot man! Tried a few different music types and the jazz seemed to work the best 🙌
this is dope all the visuals are so good! please consider making a video on how to go from a sp404 mk2 beat to a finished beat? i want to incorporate my daw beats with sp404 effects but not quite sure how? dope beats as usual!
I will do that at some point yes
Thanks for the nice video and dope beat! Honestly the biggest issue with making beats outdoors on the SP404 for me is my poor neck which is totally destroyed after about an hour. Probably a stand for the device could fix it but taking stand outdoors doesn't seem to increase mobility. Haven't you experienced any issues like that?
Yeah I've noticed that if I do long sessions at home, it can start to hurt my neck a bit. Outdoors I don't actually do that much beat making, its mainly beat performance like this. I only tend to be over the device for 3 - 5 mins
The sounds are so much cleaner man!
Thanks man yeah at this point I feel like my mixes are coming out pretty clean. I'd like to do a bit more treatment on the samples but I really like how I'm getting the drums to sit at the moment! Appreciate all your support 🙏
I would be super interested in your workflow combining the SP and Ableton. Do you produce a "sketch" on the SP? Like Flipping a sample, adding the drums, then bouncing stems for Ableton? Then arranging and mixing in Ableton? But at which point do you put FX to the beat? Especially 303 Vinyl Sim, which is basically a compressor and should be added at the very end of the process, in my opinion..Or do you add these FX while performing the beat in DJ Mode...I am a bit confused about the process at a whole and would love to see a Vid about your process and thoughts on it. Thank you so much for your Vidz. They are super helpful und inspiring! Keep going :)
I'll do a video at some point but basically don't overthink it. Sometimes I might use it to sketch ideas, other times just to add some spice to my samples. Workflows are a fluid and personal thing so just go with what feels right on the day for you, it doesn't always have to be rigid and the same. its unlikely we'll end up having the exact same process as different people like doing things in different ways. The SPs are also great as a 'master' fx unit after the beat is complete too yeah! The compressors and vinyl sims can add some great vibes. Glad to hear the videos are useful, appreciate that.
@@spvidz Thanks a lot for your feedback. I'll appreciate that big time! And yes it's simply overthinking and find a creative way that suits the project..there is simply not the one and only way to do it.
Hello my brother! Good video, thanks for your channel, since I bought my mk2 it has been a sanctuary to see your channel again when I need updated knowledge, new updates.
I wanted to ask you, how do you manage to give "power" to your sp mk2 outdoors? and how many hours does it last?
Would you recommend the things I have to buy please. I'm not American and sometimes it's hard to find technology
I will be doing a video about everything I use in these videos this week ma guy! Stay tuned for that 👍
@@spvidz I'll be looking forward to it!!!! Spring is coming in my country and it's time to get outdoors to create.
thank you very much for your work bro
No problem 🙌🙏
These type of videos are cool
Glad you like them bro. Hopefully much more of it to come 🙌
Im fixing to order some elbow jacks for my headphones so its safer on both the cable and the jack. Yeah the portability of this makes the device! I have used heat shrink tube to enforce ipad cables so I am comfy dragging my cable around outside. I got a bag with extra connections, rechargeable batteries and a foam padded suitcase perfect for the SP, IPAD,a nanokeystudio and headphones , I been setting it up and jamming in the park, in cars n such. I got my sample library in audioshare so everything is organized and labeled. Im trying to figure out how to use AUM for fx and synth hosting , my workflow revolves around korg gadget and the sp404, then random apps from my giant ios synth and groovebox collection.
Sounds dope! I’m already going down a rabbit hole of what I could start adding to my setup to make it more practical. A better rucksack for my camera gear and sp is on the list. I imagine my stuff is going to start getting battered pretty quick doing this a lot 🥲
I think understanding that SPs (and same goes for MPCs in my perspective) aren't the end point for completing instrumental compositions, but just a part of the process, it frees you up to enjoy the instrument even more for its unique character. If you expect a banana to yield orange juice, you'll always be disappointed.
The performance was dope, man.
P.s. I'm curious. Will you always go by SP Vidz for your artist name?
I think the mpcs are a bit more capable but yeah I generally agree and I’m already noticing that I’m way happier with how my beats are coming out. Appreciate the compliment too man. Thanks! 🙌
@@spvidz Yeah man the MPCs can get you further with more precision due to how effects and editing can be done. At the end of the day I was still bouncing everything to an Ableton Live Set for finishing mixing/mastering haha.
Man I think you'd enjoy integrating your SPs with a Push (either 2 or 3). When I get my Push 3 🤞🏼 I'll send you my Push 2 to try out hahaa.
I make full beats on the SP I don’t think it’s that bad, it is just simpler than the DAW with less layers usually, every one is different though, I like using ableton to make beats too, but the SP is definitely capable, just wish there was sidechain
@@mastersunfish It's definitely possible to hash out full arrangements on the SP. I do it at times, too. The thing for me, though, is that I play my own instruments and full fledged instrumentation and arrangements in the way I do it just isn't plausible on the SP sometimes.
There are certain things that I can do on the SP almost instantaneously that don't happen on Ableton, too. So
it just comes down to acknowleding the strengths of the tools and instruments in use and being creative with it.
@@mastersunfish Also, I checked your videos out and you make dope stuff man! Really dig it.
So when are we going to see the lofi 12 debut on the channel? Some new tutorials for you to get into on new gear?
I'm still kinda learning how to use it but hopefully soon. I'm not that keen on sitting at home and making tutorial videos at the moment but I will most likely do a few videos covering the basics
Nice! I need some help with mine on the workflow side of things too. Look forward to it
@@spvidzI've been using it mainly for drums then pushing it through the sp404.
Dope man. The 4 second sample time was a bit of a bummer for me but I’ll give it a few more sessions and do some vids 👌
@@spvidz yeah they just released the lofi 6 which has 8 seconds
you been a tree for many in the community. thanks for help :))
Glad to have served this awesome community and will continue to do so too✌️
Nice beats man
Appreciate that man, thanks 🙏
What you are doing with the SP, (performing in a field with it) is what I hope to do with the SP 404 mk 2 and old school Novation Circuit. The cool thing about where I live (in Canada) I have 13 acres of forest for it and other stuff). When my younger brother was alive I was trying to steer him to an SP 404 (this was before the mk2 came out {this conversation took place in 2015} with one of the reasons being that with it running on batteries 🔋 you don’t have to be tied to a desk to make music, you can take an SP anywhere from a coffee shop, to a hotel lobby (I did this with my Circuit where I used to work, after work I would people watch and sketch something out on the Novation Circuit) or a forest/farmers field (as long you get the farmer’s permission first 😉)
Yup it’s one of the best things about them. That’s what I’ve been realising with my more recent videos where I’ve been heading outside. It really comes into its own in this environment
get a decent usb power bank and you can run it for hours... finding the perfect, undisturbed place with a comfortable table and chair really helps.
i tried using the mk2 outside but i cant see the lights/screen outside.
It is a bit of an issue yup. Need to make a little hood for it 😁
Great
Much appreciated!
Hi, thank you for the video. Do you know if is possible to see the time code of a pattern or a sample on the screen? I need it to perform. Thanks
I'm not sure what you mean by time code. Try pressing Remain though, that gives you additional information
Thank you. I did that, the issue is that I have to keep pressing the button REMAIN to see the the remaining time time code. That is disappointing for a quite a device. @@spvidz
I love this video man! Take more risks
Appreciate it man. Yeah you’re right 🙌
🔥
🙌🙌🙌
🙌🙏😍🌌
🙌🙌🙌
I enjoyed this, just do you
Glad to hear it and thanks for the support! 🙌
Skipped the first two minutes. Only telling you because I'm sure you spent a while filming and editing it, and I think you could have saved yourself that time.
Thats only one opinion, I've had others say they like it. Regardless, its going to be part of my videos moving forward. Skipping past is fine I don't mind as long as the video had some sort of value to you, but I am going to be continuing this style moving forward.
Need to spend some time in the sun there my dude! 😅
We don’t get any…
@spvidz hahah im originally from sunny UK so im very aware 😅
haha real ones know 😂
