This is a temporarily pinned comment. I'd like to take the time to acknowledge that this video will be reaching 1,000 comments very soon. Simultaneously, and by great coincidence, this video is also closing in on 1 million views. When I opened this channel in 2007, I never expected anything I uploaded to amount to anything. If you have read this far, I encourage you to look through the multitude of discussions that have taken place here. People speaking of childhood experiences, ice cream stories, hearing this song out of context in rather comical situations at times, discussions of other uses this tune has seen, and much more. You can freely browse without the concern that something highly controversial will pop up, because I have been tediously keeping this comment section pure. Why? I feel this comment section ought to represent the sanctity that so many of us felt as children. We were safe, many of us were loved, and many of us loved hearing this tune play on that beloved white truck that would roll down our street in the summertime. This comment section serves as an escape from the woes and worries of our adult lives. Here, you can reminisce and share all of your unique experiences. We can learn from each other. If you wish to participate in any of the discussions below, please use proper language that you would be happy to hear a toddler mimicking. Let's all be youthful and jolly! If you really want to get into character, definitely go grab a pint of your favorite ice cream flavor, dig into it, and then start typing. You will love it, I'm sure. Once again, thank you to everybody that has participated in making this video more relevant than I would have ever imagined it being. It means a lot. Now, eat some ice cream and tell me what flavor it is! Yum yum. 😋🍦
Ice cream in the woods! **Whistles** Ice cream in the woods! **Whistles** Ice cream is delicious like so many goods, so let's all eat some ice cream in the pretty woods! Did you ever go out into the trees, Where the wind blows gently making quite a breeze, Well I will tell you about last night's dream, I went into the woods and had some cold ice cream! Hey, thanks for the inspiration to write some fun lyrics! 😄
Well, weren't you lucky!? The profits of his day, he would have his kids come and enjoy some ice cream after work. I'm glad you have such a happy memory. Be glad you had those special moments growing up. Treasure them forever. Have a good day. ^_^
I had an ice cream truck in the early 1990's, and had the unique good fortune to have a friend who could play the keyboard like Liberace (to my untrained ears), and he came up with a number of delightful tunes that were not so repetitious as the traditional 'turkey in the straw'. Thank you for posting.
Panther Pryde Well, I'm glad you found it. :) Sorry for the belated reply! I'm not being notified of comments on this video. I always feel happy when I find that one song I've been looking for!
That's so strange, I've never heard of "Turkey in the Straw" before. When I was a kid in 3rd Grade we learned to sing it as "Do Your Ears Hang Low?" and the music sheets had a picture of a Bunny Rabbit with long, floppy ears.... It went like this: Do your Ears hang low, do they wobble to and fro, can you tie 'em in a knot, can you tie 'em in a bow, can you throw them over your shoulder like a continental soldier, so tell me lil' bunny Do your Ears Hang Low? We didn't find anything racist or offensive about that song, it was light hearted and funny, and we couldn't help but giggle while we sang the song.
Actually, it's amazing to me that I wasn't familiar with Do Your Ears Hang Low? I was class of '09 and I remember my peers having a song with a similar title but it DEFINITELY isn't for kids (I've blocked the song name from even being mentioned). It appears there was a confusion and I thought others were referring to the misleading song title. As of writing this, I'm going to be modifying my filter a bit so others can talk about Do Your Ears Hang Low? since I've found strictly innocent connotations to that song. Thank you for writing out the lyrics! It's proof that I do read any and all comments! 😃 So, do my ears hang low? Possibly, if I'm actually Dumbo the elephant in disguise. 😂
Sorry if I come off condescending in this but turkey in the straw was never racist as the original tune and lyrics were codified in the 1800s it just so happened to have a racist version in the 30s and 40s that most don't know about some videos just say it was originally racist for clicks and views
The Entertainer! Scott Joplin! I've heard that variation only on UA-cam. I would imagine, for those that heard The Entertainer playing from an ice cream truck, growing up, experiencing that tune again would cause the same sense of nostalgia that I get when I hear this one.
Now imagine hearing this in the distance while in the forest BUT it sounds off key, like a toy where the batteries are almost dead but still giving all they can
Nice. I know no one's probably going to read this but: I've only gotten ice cream from an ice cream truck once but I enjoyed it; not just in the sense that the ice cream was good, but in the emotions I was able to share by being there with family as well. It wasn't the same as simply eating ice cream in a bowl sitting at a desk alone as I was used to countless times prior. I was able to enjoy and savour the experience outside while taking in the beautiful scenery and happily chatting with family. This video was able to take me back to 2016 when that took place and now I've been basking in that memory and others I had back then for 20 minutes. God, life was simpler when I was only 10 years old. I'm sure I'll think about today the same way sooner or later as I get older and enter post-secondary education etc. so I guess I should just be mindful and take in my life with the same state of mind: when I think I'm overexerting myself now, it's nothing to how I'll be in the future, but by enjoying myself and trying new things as I go along, I'll give myself opportunities to bask in those happy memories when I'm feeling down. I think I'll also be able to realize that while things might be bad, they'll improve sooner or later and I'll get back to trying new things and being adventurous as I once had. I didn't know I'd have such deep thought-provoking thoughts over an ice cream truck song, but I guess nostalgia is a powerful emotion. As for your video, I thank you for making it and I wish only the best for you. Cheers. EDIT: 2020/06/17 Haha, lol I just spotted an ice cream truck outside and I told my mom who promptly bought some cones for us and my dad. Funny coincidence that this happened only 3 days after I posted that comment.
Actually, this is a belated reply, and I do apologize, but somehow, your comment got caught up in my filtration system! I'm surprised, honestly. I've whitelisted your comment, however, so I hope some others will take note of your amazing story. Nostalgia IS a powerful emotion, yes. I agree. Thank you for your sensational, emotional, and powerful story. Never find shame or feel silly because you get caught up in nostalgia over a particular song or video.

I just spent about 2 and a half hours, looking for this song. Looking up, "Old American folk song" and "Colonial upbeat song/music" and so on, listening to song after song after song, just trying find this song. And, when I finally find it, I find out that all I had to do was search for "Ice Cream Truck song" ... *Slow Clap* Bravo.
Well, my friend, I'm glad you found it. Did this pop up near the top results when you searched "ice cream truck song" ? I'm always happy to find "that one song everybody knows but nobody knows the name of." 😁 Maybe I can add a few search tags to help get this video to more people.
@@internationalsuperspy4318 wow! 😮 That explains my view count on this video. YT algorithm being good to me right now. I'll never monetize this video, though, regardless, because I think anybody should be able to listen to an ice cream truck without a doggone ad harassing them. 😐 Enjoy! 😁 Just like I would tell my friends in real life: this one's on me! 😁
There’s a whole webpage decidated to that feeling of “that one song everybody knows but nobody knows the name of,” if you’re curious. It’s on Reddit under the subreddit “r/TOMT” standing for Tip Of My Tongue. All sorts of people go on there to ask about things they vaguely remember and everyone reads through what people are looking for and chime in if they know what someone’s talking about! Very interesting stuff.
I remember when I was real young, maybe about 5 or 6, the ice cream truck would pass by and play this song. I would always get the tweety bird popsicle
@@pinksylveon444 Spongebob was a little after my early childhood, but I bet that was a fun experience for you. :) I know if Spongebob had been created sooner, I'd have gone crazy about it! Haha 😁 thanks to both of you for sharing your experiences!
You've got that right! Comments about my maturity level have often come from people that were miserable anyways. Never let anybody tell you that you are too old to do something. You have one life: live it to the fullest! 🙂

@@Vmidnight1917 yeah, sadly. 🙄 My video is a hate target because I don't put up with nonsense in the comments section. One of my "filtered" comments had some colorful things to tell me. By colorful I mean pink, blue, green, red... 😂
It's not enough to make national headlines (yet), and I prefer it to stay that way. If this video ends up on television, I'll just "freeze" the comment section and abandon it. I can only imagine what the media would love to do to me. I'm just trying to keep it cool and play it right. ENOUGH about that! I'm glad you got some great memories of your childhood, and this tune helped recall some of those special moments. Often times, as adults, we begin to forget just how much fun we had at one point. That's when true misery sets in, when you fail to recall the joy, or you just don't bother to look for joy anymore. It's there, but sometimes, it's harder to find. I hope kids of today will be commenting on this video 5 years from now, telling me how they're "old" (and I'll be in my mid 30s by then) and "they remember the old days." By then, I'll be getting a real chuckle. Ha! What kind of ice cream do you like? :D Me? Vanilla with sprinkles. Gimme gimme! :D
It would be rude of me not to answer you or anyone else. Well, 😅 troll comments are just removed from existence in this section. My videos aren't dump-and-run uploads. So many people move on after so many years, even months, or even MINUTES after the upload. Not me! Thank you for commenting, and I'll accept an emoji trophy 🏆 thank you! 😄
Recently there has been an ice cream truck that passes by my place on Sunday afternoons. I don't go out and get anything but just the music itself helps me feel relax and stress less about the week of school ahead
Also, the fact that the uploader cares enough to moderate the comments section to keep it pure and innocent, like the majority of our childhoods. This song invokes feelings of nostalgia. I strive for anybody to feel welcome in the comments section. Thank you for your feedback on what I do. I do care. 🙂 You might be surprised just what measures I have to take, as well. Have a great day!
My childhood was in the 90s and in NYC, I'd usually hear Turkey In The Straw, Entertainer and the 'Hello' tunes in rotation. I like the Entertainer best :) I usually got a vanilla cone, sometimes dipped in sprinkle, sometimes dipped in strawberry syrup, and sometimes a vanilla double cone ✨
Honestly, in an alternate reality, I really wish I'd heard The Entertainer for the ice cream jingle, growing up. I've heard it on UA-cam, and yeah, I can see why that would be exciting to hear for an ice cream truck. We savor the moment... or in our case, savor the flavor. :D VANILLA ALL THE WAY THOUGH! Yeah! Oh, and I like sprinkles. :)
I owned my own ice cream truck back in the '70s. Back in the '60s and the '70s and the '80s we actually played the real music box with a metal disc that sounded like a music box. That thing they play today man I can't stand.
Subscribed only because of all the wholesome and thorough replies you have made to all these comments. I'm far far away from the US (Europe) and just found this tune through some of Disney's old films. I came for the tune, but stayed for the comments and replies. Such a nice end to the day over here. Thank you!
I'm glad to have brought joy to your day. 🙂 I was raised to address somebody when I'm spoken to. To me, the comments speak to me. Each person I respond to has had a different background, a different story, a different life, etc. No two people come from identical backgrounds. I'm all about connecting with those who care to connect and be respectful. I'm sad to say that some individuals come to this comment section to try and upset the unity, but I moderate it. I'm sorry I didn't respond to you sooner. Your comment really means a lot to me. I had a smile when I read your comment. I'm glad someone appreciates my efforts. I send you my warm regards for a blessed existence. 🙂 On the topic of the video: do they have ice cream trucks in your area?? Or something similar? Maybe they have donut trucks? If not, I'm certain you have had cool experiences from your childhood that you'll carry with you for life. 😃 I find it fascinating how this video has been discovered by hundreds of thousands of people. I didn't think this was ever going to go anything beyond 500 (I mean, look at my other video view counts haha), but here we are! May your days ahead be filled with fun and happy memories! 😃
Ah, the memories. Our local truck played Pop Goes the Weasel, then Turkey in the Straw for several years, and then Home on the Range for a few years. My brother and I used to get Itzakadoozie, Bubble Play, Chocolate Eclairs, and our favorite was the probably limited time Goofy Scoop.
no nostalgic felling hits harder than you and your friends chasing an ice cream truck screaming Ice cream over and over again also with $4 that mom gave you.
Use to have a ice cream truck with this song in my neighborhood but know it’s the picnic one, it’s been the picnic one for over 2 years now, the first day I heard the picnic sound I almost cried. I just miss this turkey in the straw.
More people should be in touch with their inner child. We all have one, some just forget to be free-spirited and carefree every once in a while. You can't go through your entire life as a stiff, boring, and miserable adult. It's OKAY to be like a kid, once in a while. Honestly, I think kids are smarter than a lot of adults. 😂 So true, though! You hear that truck a-coming your way, and in that temporary moment, the stresses of being an adult should just melt away. :)
Love it when this just starts playing but there's literally nothing around that could potentially make that noise, haha. Not a bad thing, but definitely surprising!
Hmm, interesting that you say that! I'm still trying to figure out how this video got so many dang views! Somebody said that it is on the first page of an "ice cream truck song" search. That's quite surprising, actually! I wonder if it is entangled with UA-cam's "Autoplay" system, yet. 👀 Maybe somebody listening to chiptunes and "up next: Ice Cream Truck Song (Turkey in the Straw)" I'm still trying to figure it out. Haha 😂 Sometimes, I will think I'm hearing this song from somewhere, but it is just a random song playing on the radio and it turns out to be totally different. So, I can relate to your experiences, somewhat!
@@Allen1350 Yeah, maybe this video comes up during autoplay. :D Or people really like this song and keep listening to it. And, what's weird is that there wasn't a radio around. It was just random noise time, I guess.
@@hawktalon7890 well, nice having a chat with you regarding this. A quick glance at my channel will tell you that this is my ONLY video with any notoriety. I had no idea it would blow up like this haha 😂 I was expecting a top of like 5K views. The funniest part is that this was probably the LEAST effort I put into a video. *insert generic ice cream truck image, set audio fade out overlay the entire track, pitch correct, give outdoorsy reverb effect, have it loop for a little over a minute, upload, done.* Some of my BIGGEST projects were the least noted. 👀 It sure is weird. I wonder what other low-effort video I'll produce in the future that gets tons of attention. 🤣 UA-cam's ever-evolving policies have me kind of scared, though. Like, will one of my videos put me off the site for good? Time will tell!
Once I hear this melody I would come running out of the house. My mom says that me being able to hear the ice cream truck as it approached our old house was funny and cute when I was a kid. For me, it feels like a 6th sense to me
Hello there! After filtering through so many troubles in the comment section today, your experience really made my day. Thanks for relating it. :D Yeahhhhh I actually kinda recall that I would expect it around a certain time of day when I was about 6 years old, and so many times I'd start opening and closing the front door because "MOM I THOUGHT I heard the ice cream truck, sorry!!!" LOL :) fun times. Thanks, again, for your happy story! :D
Sadly, some are influenced to comment about something that is not kid-friendly. This video has been a very interesting journey for me. In the early stage, I didn't have to manually approve comments. Then, I got flash attacked by a bunch of people over some dramatic hype from the Good Humor ice cream company. Without my input whatsoever and without my knowledge, my video got semi-irrelevantly linked on a TMZ page. 😒 I got called many different things. I move on though! 😎 What kind of ice cream do you like?
Thank you very much, long time fellow chatter. I cannot believe I have a video with a million views and a channel with 1,000 subscribers. I really feel like I need to start doing something more interesting with my channel. What that will be exactly, I still don't know. I mean, 1,000 people would classify as a very small town. I'm still exploring! 😄 Thanks, again, for the supportive comment.
I hope you got to go back. With travel the way it is, as of writing this, I hope you are doing okay. I'm sorry I only took two years to answer you. 2014 was a memorable year for me, as well, but for a different reason. After 3 1/2 years of unemployment, I finally got to go work a job that year. It was great! I was already hating unemployment after the first six months, so... yeah. 😂
A lot of people believe this is the correct name. It is a very charming lyrical adaptation of this tune. How low do your ears droop? Haha! Thank you for your comment. You clearly speak with much enthusiasm! 😃👍
Haha, I know how that goes! I'm 25. I haven't lived where ice cream trucks drove by since I was 9 years old. I think I'd probably still go after one if one did drive by where I lived. Haha :D I'll be 26 before I know it... scary how fast time goes by. @Dr.David 7w7 I'm, like, twice your age bro. Trust me, you'll be 26 before you know it haha!
Thanks for commenting! Ice cream unites all age groups, I say! By chance, do you remember what tune your local ice cream truck played? 😃 If it was this one, then I hope you enjoyed a nostalgia trip to childhood! 😁
🤗 I hear you. I really do. Those simpler days were much more enjoyable. I suggest making the best of each day ahead, and make new memories along the way. 🙂 Thank you for commenting!
@@1958PonyBoy YESSSSS right!? haha I used to get so riled up!!! I was a wild crazy kid that was full of energy. I'm still usually pretty peppy, but man I miss that level of energy I had when I was a kid! Haha! Thanks for your comment... I truly experienced a good memory just now. :)
Oh MY!!! I didn't even hear this growing up, but I'm getting nostalgia vibes!!! I'll link the video for others to enjoy: ua-cam.com/video/zzodaDCD798/v-deo.html Thanks for telling me about this! Now I wish I'd grown up listening to this one! It's so quaint and lovely. :)
A triple jump would certainly take a large amount of adrenaline. Now, I'm wondering if good old Super Mario would like to have a scoop of ice cream. He who triple jumps must also crave ice cream! Haha! Thank you for your comment. 🙂
The first memory of a truck playing this song was actually when I went to a family wedding in Mexico City as a child and chasing a bread truck with different breads and pastries with a bunch of other kids who I didn't speak a lick of a common language with. English Spanish, or even Korean (the family was Mexican-Korean so the divide was about even)
In the northern hemisphere up here, it's getting that time of year. Let's go, ice cream all summer long! Woohoo! Thank you for taking the time to comment. 🙂 Enjoy your ice cream!
Lol, the various lyrics versions are very risqué. My friend just started an ice cream truck here on Kauai and they just passed my house. They don’t use this song or the new one but it got me thinking about the old jingle and that’s why I’m here. I want a popsicle now!
I weirdly only remember hearing The Entertainer being played on the ice cream trucks when I was a kid. They never switched it up either... weird. This is nice too though
I might upload the other chiptunes I've heard were commonly used. Finding a high-quality edition of THIS was tedious, and I still had to do some tweaking with what I was given before I could even add the "reverb" sensation of being outside. (The file, itself, sounded great, but there was this constant "hissssssssssssssssssssssss" through the whole file. Audacity fixed that with noise cancellation, but yeah, these chiptunes are hard to find good quality rips of!) If you have a link to just the audio of The Entertainer chiptune, share it with me. Links are banned by default, but I'll look at it if you send me one. :D I might be able to overlay the audio track of this video with an extensively reworked The Entertainer. More on topic of what you're saying, they never switched up or deviated from Turkey in the Straw where I grew up. Now that you mention it, THAT'S kind of weird. :) As I learned of more jingles that existed, I wondered why I never heard them. It's just how it was, I guess. Didn't stop me from getting an ice cream or two, if my sister was feeling generous! :D
I remember hearing this one, The Entertainer, and Pop Goes the Weasel the most often on the ice cream trucks in ny neighborhood. I did occasionally hear other songs (including some songs from TV or movies), but I can't remember exactly what at the moment. I do remember hearing Christmas carols from the ice cream truck during the holidays.
Holiday music from an ice cream truck! Now, that is the first time I've heard of that. I apologize for the very belated reply. UA-cam Studio just released a new functionality.
Well, what a fitting profile picture of Yakko to go with it! Wakko, of course, performed this tune along with a lyrical adaptation and the song became the famous Wakko's America! I'm glad you found the original name of the song, though. It's always satisfying when we find that one song that we don't know the name of. Thanks for commenting, and have a great day! 😄
This brings back so much nostalgia, me and my step brothers would run straight out of the house and get our money and buy ice cream when we were younger; I haven’t see an ice cream truck since I was like 6 if feels like, I’m 12 now and this brings back so much memories. I miss being a kid sometimes♥️
You're 12. You are still a kid; however, I remember having similar feelings at the age of 12. I didn't want to go forward. I wanted to go back, all of the time... I still wish I could buy a ticket to revisit my childhood. My family was incredibly connected and affectionate... it was all REAL. Life had so much wonder and amazement from my eyes. I'm so joyful that you've shared this experience. I'm the younger of two children from mom. I loved my older sister so much for all of the joy she would bring me. She is 11 years older than me. We had a rough patch in my teen years, but we are back to being super close, as siblings should be. ❤ Always be grateful for all of the happiness you find and experience in your life, bud. :)
I'm not stopping any time soon, either. I HAVE to maintain this comment section, or else it can get a bit rude. (Can you believe people actually bicker over a chiptune from an ice cream truck? How trivial.) Thank you for your kind words. 🙂❤️ All the best wishes for you. 👌
That is really awesome that Greensleeves gets used in another country. If you don't mind me asking, which country do they use Greensleeves? 🤔 Have a great day! 🙂
Many fond memories of this playing as a kid, when the ice cream truck got to Iowa Avenue in Girard, Ohio where I lived. Fun fact, Good Humor started out in Youngstown, Ohio, right next door to Girard, which I didn't know till recently! I'm 41 now and still smile when I hear this tune.
bro I don't get why people are afraid of this? It's so nostalgic and calming and loving. When I was a like 4 years old I used to always save up 5$ to go buy some ice cream at the local ice cream truck that drove down our neighborhood every summer...it was a critical strike in my mind when the truck stop coming around our neighborhood first. I was so miserable and sad at those times because it would be nighttime already and the ice cream truck didn't come around at that time. But now to this day I still wonder every time we visit our old neighborhood..when will I meet the ice cream truck again..?
Amen to that. I moved to "the sticks" as it were when I was 9 years old. It did feel strange, not hearing this tune anymore, as I had when I was in the city. I completely get that! As for why some people are creeped out by it, I think it's the same principle behind how some people get creeped out by clowns. 🤔 When I see clowns, I see adults that want to be silly and childish. I think it's an interesting perspective! I know, though, that many are creeped out by it. Perhaps an event took place in one's life that made them afraid? Perhaps this simple jingle was playing at a bad time in their life. Whatever the case, this song just makes me think of pure nostalgia, joy, and comfort. Also... Ice cream. Lol Thanks for your comment! 🙂
The moment I found this video 3 months ago, I was thinking "I know that song, but didn't know the title. Where do I know it from? I really want to know" Today I found it: The old black-and-white Mickey Mouse cartoon "Steamboat Willy" :D
I'm sure there are things you've encountered that I haven't, as well! Well, a lot of them look like this, and a lot play very cheerful music when they're in business driving around.
My brother once did a prank in the summer where he downloaded this song, cranked the volume up to max, and drove slowly around the neighborhood. When kids and their parents would come out expecting the ice cream truck, he floored it away. Needless to say, people weren't amused :P
This isn’t the ice cream truck jingle I heard when I was a kid in Orange County, CA; it was far simpler musically. Some are so hell-bent on being offended it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
The measures people take... it's something else, for sure. Is it possible you heard Mr. Softee? Another viewer said they heard that one. ua-cam.com/video/zzodaDCD798/v-deo.html see if this is the jingle you recall.
Just shows the level of crazy some people possess. Or, is it lack of common sense? If uploaders would take more responsibility for their comment sections, much of UA-cam would be a better website... at least I can do my part. :) 👍
This is perfect music for decision making. Especially if it pertains to choosing the right ice cream flavor. Haha! 😂 Thank you for sharing such a neat thought about this song, and the unique aspect it has in your life. 🙂👍

This tune was greatly influenced by a ballad known as "My Grandmother Lived on Yonder Little Green," which was greatly influenced by an Irish ballad known as "The Old Rose Tree," which dates back to the year of 1795. While some mean-hearted people have tried to tarnish this tune over the years, is it not comforting to know that the original tune has no malice? For all we know, the person who wrote the melody might have been craving ice cream! Probably not, but still: a fun thought. 😄 Now, let's get real about ice cream: what flavor do you like? Do you have any ice cream truck memories you'd like to share? Comment below, and I'll respond! Want to see some lyrical adaptations that this tune has received? Check the video links in the description! Thank you for being nice in the comments. 🙂 Let's upbuild and brighten each other's days!
The following topic(s) are up for playful argument right now: Which ice cream flavor is the best Which ice cream jingle is the best (no bashing other jingles now!) Have fun, guys, gals, and kids. THE POWER OF ICE CREAM UNITES US!!! 😂
There are a number of things, myself, that I rarely (or, better yet, never) experienced as a child that bring me a sense of nostalgia. For example, my parents seldom ever got fast food. Yet, if I see a fast food commercial from the 90s, I feel like I was there a lot or something. It's interesting, for sure. Thanks for commenting. 🙂
It's interesting seeing hoe so different US ice cream trucks are from ones in my own country! The sound quality to this is pleasant. We get an overly loud, tinny "O sole mio". Also, this looks professional. Ours are invariably white and always... BUT ALWAYS... Have badly painted Disney characters. At least, they did in the 90s
This was just a random image I found on the internet. Most ice cream trucks are not this swanky. They are more like what you describe. Now I'm curious, what country are you from? If you don't mind me asking.
I used this image as a filler and a visual for the song. I've never actually gotten ice cream from Jeni's ice cream truck. Anyone else reading this: have you gotten ice cream from Jeni's? 😄
My version of this. Come to the Sweet Treat We sell on the street The bestest food for when youre out in the heat So lets meat Then we will great Common, even rest your feet Just dont let your food drip on the concrete We have vanilla, raspberry too Any special flavor thats perfect for you One, two, three, four The icecream will like you but Sweet Treat loves you more ORIGINAL
YES! AGREE! I used to get so hyped up when I would hear the truck. It's really neat to see how this jingle has been adapted into other aspects of American culture, as well. Thank you for commenting! 🙂
Those were the days back in the early 2000s. Visiting my mom and my older brother. My brother and I would be outside with his friends hanging out and when we heard this we knew what time it was.
Spot on! I can't listen to this song without salivating for some ice cream! 😂 It's kinda silly, actually. I'm glad this song brings back joyful memories for you, as it does for me. 🙂 Thank you for commenting!
Absolutely! This tune has been taken on a very wild journey. This tune could very well be the auditory sum of American history, in a way. It has had innocent moments (which, originally, that's what it was), moments where it became used for bad, moments where it became playful, etc... I could go on about this all day. It's really quite fascinating just how many aspects of our culture and history this tune has been a part of. As for me, I crave an ice cream cone when I hear it lol Thank you for commenting. 😃
Original comment pin: Whoa, hey! Before you comment: please, be aware that posts with profanity will be removed. I monitor these comments quite often. Thank you for respecting our youth, and enjoy the melody. Positive stories are welcome in the comments. 😁
Smile More I never give a definite answer to that. I upload when something spontaneous and crazy comes to my mind and I think, "hey, that's a great idea!" Lol thanks for your comment.
Even the terminator has more of a heart than the trolls of today. You do not go to great lengths to post videos for comments like what these morons post.
Why would anyone use profanity on a video like this? I don't get ice cream trucks in my neighborhood anymore, but when I did they would almost always play this song. Thank you for bringing back these old memories!! 😀
That's awesome! I don't really know what became of the ice cream trucks in the town I grew up in (it's been over 20 years), but I have a feeling that people are still running them. It's a big area with a lot of people. Glad you still get to hear this song, though! 😄
I was a kid long before Sponge Bob and the ice cream truck that came around my block just had bells, no pa system at all. Later, when I was in my early 30s there was an ice cream truck company that served my neighborhood in Brooklyn and I guess it was owned by immigrants cause the tune they used to play from their pa system was "Send in the Clowns!" About one of the most depressing songs from the 70s. I'm thinking that the person who chose it had no idea what the words of the song were or its cultural context and just saw "Clowns" in the title!
Ohhhhhhhh my gosh! What a crazy experience! I know that song, by the way! It's a sad sounding song, for sure. Ms. Collins has a beautiful voice though, I think. Just my two cents. :) It sounds like your theory could line up with what happened! "Oo clowns, sending them in? Sounds like fun! Perfect for an ice cream truck!" To be fair, though, English is a very confusing language to learn, if it's not your native language. :O Speaking of! There's a local Chinese restaurant that I support from time to time, and she saw a sign for a "political party," and she was thinking of like music and dancing. "Party" is something that can easily confuse those learning our language! Then we have there, their, and they're. I'm going on a tangent here... Sorry. Haha! Thanks for sharing your really unique experience! Ice cream is good, life is fun, being a kid was the best. :D
I think that's a sound enough reason to stop by here. Thanks for the comment! 🙂 Do you have any memories you would like to share about getting ice cream from a truck?
I love this music if I get a ice cream truck this is what i will blast I don’t think it is racist people need to learn that turkey in the straw came out first
Well, you likely experienced special things in your country that we, in the United States, did not. Think of it that way. Whatever made your childhood special... just remember it. :) Thank you for commenting!
👀 If it's what I think you're referring to, just 🤫 thank you! There are many usages and adaptations of this tune, though. Enjoy a scoop of ice cream 🍨 and have a great day! 😄
Yum yum. 😋🍦
Imagine you're in the woods and you hear trees parting with this playing in full blast behind you.
Ice cream in the woods! **Whistles** Ice cream in the woods! **Whistles** Ice cream is delicious like so many goods, so let's all eat some ice cream in the pretty woods!
Did you ever go out into the trees,
Where the wind blows gently making quite a breeze,
Well I will tell you about last night's dream,
I went into the woods and had some cold ice cream!

Memories of my childhood, my father drove one of these trucks and it was an immense happiness when he came home and gave us ice cream
That's a really cool story, and I appreciate you sharing it! I'm glad to have had this video available for you. Thank you!
This song makes me cry every time, because those days are over. I'll never forget the good ol' days.
🤗 I know. I feel ya.
I know how you feel. For other things but still the same feeling
I have been trying to find this for YEARS and this drove me nuts
Panther Pryde Well, I'm glad you found it. :) Sorry for the belated reply! I'm not being notified of comments on this video. I always feel happy when I find that one song I've been looking for!
That's so strange, I've never heard of "Turkey in the Straw" before.
When I was a kid in 3rd Grade we learned to sing it as "Do Your Ears Hang Low?" and the music sheets had a picture of a Bunny Rabbit with long, floppy ears....
It went like this:
Do your Ears hang low, do they wobble to and fro, can you tie 'em in a knot, can you tie 'em in a bow, can you throw them over your shoulder like a continental soldier, so tell me lil' bunny Do your Ears Hang Low?
So, do my ears hang low? Possibly, if I'm actually Dumbo the elephant in disguise. 😂
Sorry if I come off condescending in this but turkey in the straw was never racist as the original tune and lyrics were codified in the 1800s it just so happened to have a racist version in the 30s and 40s that most don't know about some videos just say it was originally racist for clicks and views
I grew up in the 70’s and remember my friend Frankie singing a version of “Do your ears hang low?” That was PG but maybe not G rated.
When I was growing up (45 years ago) the ice cream trucks played the theme from "the Sting"
The Entertainer! Scott Joplin! I've heard that variation only on UA-cam. I would imagine, for those that heard The Entertainer playing from an ice cream truck, growing up, experiencing that tune again would cause the same sense of nostalgia that I get when I hear this one.
I've not heard that one before! I'll check it out.
Same here. Heard The Entertainer many times from ice cream trucks, more so than Turkey In The Straw.
The ice cream truck in my area plays the entertainer!!
Literally just heard the ice cream truck in my neighborhood play this.
Imagine walking in a forest at night and you hear this in the distance
That would be highly unexpected, but most welcome, for me! I'd want to know where I could claim my ice cream!
I would walk towards it tbh
Now imagine hearing this in the distance while in the forest
BUT it sounds off key, like a toy where the batteries are almost dead but still giving all they can
I'd try and find it to get an ice cream lol

Nice. I know no one's probably going to read this but:
I've only gotten ice cream from an ice cream truck once but I enjoyed it; not just in the sense that the ice cream was good, but in the emotions I was able to share by being there with family as well. Cheers.
EDIT: 2020/06/17
Haha, lol I just spotted an ice cream truck outside and I told my mom who promptly bought some cones for us and my dad.

There’s a whole webpage decidated to that feeling of “that one song everybody knows but nobody knows the name of,” if you’re curious. It’s on Reddit under the subreddit “r/TOMT” standing for Tip Of My Tongue.

Its unfortunate what brought me here, this jingle brings great memories from my childhood and hope many more kids get the same feeling in the future!
Ha!

The fact after 8 years and 1,039 comments the uploader still responds is amazing. Thanks for Uploading Ice Cream Truck Song.

They just don't make things the way they used to. Be glad you got to experience the better product.

So true, though! You hear that truck a-coming your way, and in that temporary moment, the stresses of being an adult should just melt away. :)
well, shouldn't it be the other way around? you STILL a gangsta after she gives you 5 bucks lmao
We had both. Either jingle can throw me back to the 70's, but this one is strong.
This music gives more adrenaline to a average american kid that it could do a triple jump just to catch the car
English Spanish, or even Korean (the family was Mexican-Korean so the divide was about even)
Interesting experience, but it builds character when you experience situations like that.
Sad that they changed this jingle... Another part of history not understood and destroyed... It's only getting worse... Thanks for uploading this..👍💯
I agree with you. Thanks for tuning in though! Enjoy the music. Don't let it change your memories of your childhood.
I never knew this was what the ice cream song was. I thought somebody just made it up lol
Every song out there, ever written, is literally "made up." 😃 It's a catchy tune... did you ever get ice cream from an ice cream truck, growing up? :)
@@Allen1350 dude, really? I was getting ice cream from a truck when they sold bubble gum cigarettes.
@@NeuralNetProcessor ha! That was some time ago.
Ok boomer, right?
NeuralNetProcessor Yes me too lol.
I enjoy hearing this every summer. Thank you for this.
In the northern hemisphere up here, it's getting that time of year. Let's go, ice cream all summer long! Woohoo! Thank you for taking the time to comment. 🙂 Enjoy your ice cream!
I miss this sound in the summertime I remember begging my parents for money and running after it
Ah yes, the old days. Yup, haven't lived the urban life for 20 years. If I heard one going by my current home, I'd faint!!!
Lol, the various lyrics versions are very risqué. My friend just started an ice cream truck here on Kauai and they just passed my house. They don’t use this song or the new one but it got me thinking about the old jingle and that’s why I’m here. I want a popsicle now!
Not a thing wrong with the ones in the video description! :) It's good to have a cold treat every once in a while, for sure. :)
Audacity fixed that with noise cancellation, but yeah, these chiptunes are hard to find good quality rips of!)
If you have a link to just the audio of The Entertainer chiptune, share it with me.
I've heard this from 2021, 2 years ago. I found out the song was this. I've been trying to find it as always.
Always be grateful for all of the happiness you find and experience in your life, bud. :)
you're a kid until you hit 30 or you get married/have kids
the creator of this video still replying to comments after 6 years, what a legend
I'm not stopping any time soon, either. I HAVE to maintain this comment section, or else it can get a bit rude. (Can you believe people actually bicker over a chiptune from an ice cream truck? How trivial.)
Thank you for your kind words. 🙂❤️ All the best wishes for you. 👌
I like this song and this helped me practice with my instrument. :)
You've got a musical ear. Apply that and prosper! 😁
@@Allen1350 Thanks! :)
Finding out US America uses this as the ice cream song instead of Greensleeves is a wild culture whiplash
I'm glad this song brought you joy in the past, and continues to bring you joy. 😃 Thank you for sharing your personal experience!
bro I don't get why people are afraid of this?
Also... Ice cream. Lol
Thanks for your comment! 🙂
I love this theme! 😁
Me, too. A lot of nostalgia when I hear it. ❤️
Going to blast this at 3am during quarantine
Oh boy! Let me know how that turns out! 😂
The moment I found this video 3 months ago, I was thinking "I know that song, but didn't know the title. Where do I know it from? I really want to know"
Today I found it: The old black-and-white Mickey Mouse cartoon "Steamboat Willy" :D
If I haven't already linked Steamboat Willie in the description, I'll get to that soon! Glad you found what you were looking for. 🙂
I don't think I ever encountered an ice cream truck ever in my life.
I'm sure there are things you've encountered that I haven't, as well! Well, a lot of them look like this, and a lot play very cheerful music when they're in business driving around.

It is so true, though. I'm 28 this year and I can't grasp where the time has gone. I loved hearing this as a child.
Return to tradition.
What do you mean? 🤷♂️ I'm still eating ice cream, if that's traditional! 😂
My brother once did a prank in the summer where he downloaded this song, cranked the volume up to max, and drove slowly around the neighborhood. When kids and their parents would come out expecting the ice cream truck, he floored it away. Needless to say, people weren't amused :P
MysticDestroyer13 haha! Nice! Thanks for sharing. You brightened my day. :-)
You're welcome!...though the neighborhood residents might disagree :P
MysticDestroyer13 hehe :-)
This isn’t the ice cream truck jingle I heard when I was a kid in Orange County, CA; it was far simpler musically. Some are so hell-bent on being offended it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
The measures people take... it's something else, for sure.
Is it possible you heard Mr. Softee? Another viewer said they heard that one. ua-cam.com/video/zzodaDCD798/v-deo.html see if this is the jingle you recall.
@@Allen1350 The 'Mr Softee' tune is the one I remember, going back well over 50 years ago ;)
Never seen a video with guidelines before, but it's pretty nifty.
Just shows the level of crazy some people possess. Or, is it lack of common sense? If uploaders would take more responsibility for their comment sections, much of UA-cam would be a better website... at least I can do my part. :) 👍
THIS IS THE SAME SONG FOR THE ONE IN MY NEBORHOOD MEMORIES
Yay :) good times, I know.
My Dad once told me that when he pictures what goes through my head when I'm making decisions is this song.
This is perfect music for decision making. Especially if it pertains to choosing the right ice cream flavor. Haha! 😂 Thank you for sharing such a neat thought about this song, and the unique aspect it has in your life. 🙂👍

Ice cream is yummy. Did you know? This tune was greatly influenced by a ballad known as "My Grandmother Lived on Yonder Little Green," which was greatly influenced by an Irish ballad known as "The Old Rose Tree," which dates back to the year of 1795.
While some mean-hearted people have tried to tarnish this tune over the years, is it not comforting to know that the original tune has no malice?
For all we know, the person who wrote the melody might have been craving ice cream! Probably not, but still: a fun thought. 😄

this song gives me nostalgia even though ive rarely stumbled across an ice cream truck when i was younger
Fun Fact: This was used for the Garry's Mod ATS AI Vehicle pack's ice cream truck.
#TheMoreYouKnow right?
It's interesting seeing hoe so different US ice cream trucks are from ones in my own country!
The sound quality to this is pleasant. We get an overly loud, tinny "O sole mio".
Also, this looks professional.
Ours are invariably white and always... BUT ALWAYS... Have badly painted Disney characters. At least, they did in the 90s
This was just a random image I found on the internet. Most ice cream trucks are not this swanky. They are more like what you describe. Now I'm curious, what country are you from? If you don't mind me asking.
I’ve never heard this song, but it sounds really good in my opinion!
Anyways… how do you feel about “Jeni’s splendid ice creams street treats?”
I used this image as a filler and a visual for the song. I've never actually gotten ice cream from Jeni's ice cream truck. Anyone else reading this: have you gotten ice cream from Jeni's? 😄

Absolutely! This tune has been taken on a very wild journey. This tune could very well be the auditory sum of American history, in a way. It has had innocent moments (which, originally, that's what it was), moments where it became used for bad, moments where it became playful, etc... I could go on about this all day. We still have the truck in our town, and of course, it plays "Turkey in the Straw."
That's awesome! I don't really know what became of the ice cream trucks in the town I grew up in (it's been over 20 years), but I have a feeling that people are still running them. It's a big area with a lot of people.

It sounds like your theory could line up with what happened! "Oo clowns, sending them in? Sounds like fun! Perfect for an ice cream truck!" To be fair, though, English is a very confusing language to learn, if it's not your native language. :O
Speaking of!
Just heard this outside my office window, so had to search it.
