Paper Mill Playhouse is closing out its 2018-19 season with a new production of Disney's ''Beauty and the Beast'', directed by the theater's producing artistic director, Mark S. Hoebee. Belinda Allyn, Tally Sessions, Gavin Lee, and the rest of the cast recently gave the press a preview of what to expect in the production, which is set to begin performances on May 29 ahead of an opening night on June 2, for a run through July 3. He was the Tsar and such in Anastasia and understudied Gleb! I saw him in both of those tracks and he BLEW ME AWAY! I'm so excited for him to get to be playing a lead!

Gavin and Tally are incredible! Holy crap. Not 100% sold on this Belle yet. She has one of those voices that can't quite get the note spot on and it sounds slightly flat till her vibrato kicks in. Could just be this recording though. Love the inclusive cast, though! Also, not sure they need the extra 'ahhs' at the end of Human Again. Unless it is going to open to a wider ending chord it seems unnecessary to just repeat the same chord they've already been holding. 🤷♂️ I can't wait to see more of this production. BatB is one of my all the favorite musicals!

Gavin Lee as Lumiere! 😍
Don't get me wrong, Belle sounds beautiful. However, I'm not a fan of how she belts out a change in me. I know it's a very belty song but I always hear the end as a softer, more accepting way.
I feel like that’s more of a music director decision, or maybe a mix of both her interpretation and the music team’s visions? it is an interesting choice though, not the choice I would’ve made but I respect it, and I’m sure she’ll have more opportunities to show her softer side in that song and many other musical moments.
The ending to “A Change in Me” was created for Ashley Brown, when she started in Disney’s On the Record: A Musical Revue. That song was also in there, and that had a similar ending, but extended. ua-cam.com/video/tFn7SFJvJZ8/v-deo.html Also, “Is This Home” had a quieter ending, so it ended up not being two soft ballads in a row.

Yes yes yes yes yes, especially since the script was altered somewhat for the tour. Just a bit of polish here and there, beef up Gertrude's arc, give Oh The Thinks the Greatest Show treatment, and it could be simply splendiferous!

I live like 15 minutes away from Paper Mill Playhouse, and my mom wanted to see it. Unfortunately, like most people, she was turned off by the price. The cheapest tickets were $110, so we're not going. 😔😔

No, this is the cast rehearsal for Paper Mill Playhouse’s production of Beauty and the Beast which is located in Millburn, NJ. I have seen a few musicals there and they are top notch, Broadway style productions. I’m going to see this one too with my boyfriend, since this is my favorite Disney fairy tale.

It's not hard. I played Mrs. Potts and it's not as bad as you'd think.

When you do a Disney fairy tale this is always going to come up cause fairy tales can be played by anyone.
So are they supposed to cast due to talent or color? Should they specifically choose someone for the color of their skin or should they cast who they feel is most talented for the role? I am honestly just curious of your opinion because I really do not understand this. Wouldn't it be worse to cast someone just because of the color of their skin instead of based on talent? I feel like that would feel like a slap to the actor who got cast because its literally saying they arent good enough for the role but they are just their token colored person. Makes no sense to me

Ugh this is one show that did not need a revival. I spent a summer playing the wardrobe and I would be perfectly happy to never be in it again.

Being honest, I can’t stand that chip costume. That little kid seems great. It’s a shame that he was shoved in a box. I think that the broadway production should use puppets instead.
