Nsmbds has this unique charm that I don’t think any other mario game will capture. I also say this for all the other ds marios games

The way you use and lose the blue shell in this run is giving 8 year old me an aneurysm
Yeah around 50 min he literally left a blue shell behind while selecting another blue shell from his invertory so he literally left a blue shell behind that he could have carried with him thats just insane it almost gave me a seizure

My dad used to be addicted to this game and at one point he just said “I’m gonna just beat the game one last time start to finish in one sitting” and he beat it in an hour with only two lives. It wasn’t that much of a wr speedrun but I know most people could never do that. I even used to ask him to beat a level for me when I wasn’t able to the first tim I played it

I remeber in 1st grade me and my classmates tried to unlock the secret hidden world which you supposedly needed a blue mushroom to jump to over a lava pit, in the final castle. A 9th world would have made this game even better especially if it was a cool secret like that, but the "secret" worlds 4 and 7 were cool and nice challenges as well.

Actually, when listening to the beat and the enemies separately, around half of the six enemies are in sync! (There is a possibility that I'm wrong here, but I feel like it is three out of six. There might be a chance that it is actually two enemies, but the green para-troopa and the 3rd and 4th goombas sound as if they are in sync).

It’s very common and easy to do. It also saves like a second and skips the risk of taking damage if you just go under.
Oh, its easy.
I analyzed it, and I may have an answer to a question that nobody asked. The speedrunner set up this clip by shifting the camera to the right. He lets go of the R button near the bullet bill blaster, and then does a small crouch jump. A few frames before he lands, he un-crouches, so that way he won't lose speed by sliding to a stop when on top of the bullet bill blaster. (If he hadn't then he would've either landed in between the blaster and the switch, landed on the switch but then wouldn't be able to do the clip due to slowing down, or crouch jumped off of the blaster, land on the switch, but knowing that he will be unable to do the clip, wall jump in order to go the other way, and retreat from his own failure. There could also be more ways of either failure or victory, but I'll take a guess and say that there is a smaller chance of getting the clip than failing the clip and losing some seconds). He then slides down the wall, and then hits the switch. I assume that he slid down the wall in order to get (Fire) Mario's model to clip inside the wall by a few pixels (maybe even a few sub-pixels if sub-pixels are a thing in New Super Mario Bros. DS), and then keeps (Fire) Mario's model in the wall by hitting the switch, which stalls him in the air for a bit, but might also keep him inside the wall. Right when he lands onto the ground, he waits until the exact frame where (Fire) Mario's feet are in the ground by a bit. He does a high crouch jump, and when he hits the ceiling, he un-crouches, slides down the wall, and enters that (said to be a wall type of wall) wall. (The ceiling right above the switch is a bridge, and is higher up than the other ceiling, which is just blocks made by huge orange rocks. there is also some little crevasses in between some of the tiling that Fire Mario slides on to clip into the wall, but that might not be part of the main reason why Fire Mario clips into the wall). Hopefully I'm right with my assumptions. Sorry for the super long explanation, I just felt like I needed to be some sort of help in the comments.

This clip is seriously a no-brainer lol. The only stipulation to getting the clip are to just push up against the wall completely and unduck near the peak of the jump. The closest thing you mentioned here is that it has to do with Mario’s position to the wall, just not on a sub-pixel level. As for scrolling, it has to do with the timing of the bullet bills being fired out of the turret; scrolling forces them to shoot earlier and not get in Mario’s path. As for un-crouching, it’s a very minuscule detail that has little to do with getting the clip- my guess is that the momentum from the jump would be enough for Mario to slide off the turret and directly onto the switch anyway

Because if he ended the level with the last 2 digits the same then a cutscene of Mario walking past the flagpole and collecting a power-up would happen, wasting some time. This also applies for every other level in the game.

Does anyone remember the hidden mini mushroom pipe on the 4-4 with the wigglers? Near the end of a level there's a wiggler that walks over 4 mini pipes, one of which can be accessed with a mini. It was surprisingly annoying to time it correctly to get in. It's at 2:01:27.
It’s one of those things once you discover you can’t help doing every time you’re in the level, like that one hidden star block in the meteorites world 8 level

... That IS 100%, which is what this run is, the whole point of the category is to complete everything there is to do in a game; collect all items, beat all stages, bosses, etc.
Because this videos is said to be 100% but he doesn't collect everything.
@@wearywanderer1912 By "collect everything" I mean collecting all "important/unique" items, meaning things like star coins or unlocking and beating every level. Regular coins and power ups don't count because they don't contribute to having unlocked everything.

@@radioactivenanachi I am not weird. There are several games that have language advantages for speedrunning, such as Italian being best for Super Mario Sunshine, Japanese for Ocarina of Time 100%, and Chinese for OoT Any%.
And the PAL version is easier than NTSC for Mario Kart 64 and faster overall for F-Zero X when you convert times mathematically since you're playing in slightly slow motion and high speed maintenance is more effective at speeds over 2000kmh (2400 NTSC) respectively.

I’m super late but the game shows every level you’ve beaten in the credits sequence, so by going straight there the credits are minutes shorter.
I remember how i back in 1994 did tout that in world 2 & 3 of supermarioworld were two bossfights in wich wich 1 contained quicksand and the other one contained water in wich you had to lore the koopa kids into,BUT that was not the case,HOWEVER,12 years later in this game,there are indeed 2 fighting rooms in wich one of it contain water and the other one contains quicksand,but you don’t have to lore baby bowser into it,but my troughts from 1994 did became partially reality 12 years later non the less😁👍
