We try to go south every week but it's a hit or miss on when we usually go, it's always on a whim, maybe you catch us down there one day, if you do come over!
Floater rigs can be necessary if you're targeting a certain species of fish. Whether you fish from a cliff or near the shore there are always factors like wind/current, reef & Rock structures that you need to watch for, basically you would have to judge the situation to know for sure if it's necessary to use a floater rig or not.

Yes, it can always be tricky to try to not get your sinker stuck. No matter how good of a fisherman you are we all get stuck when we least expect.
