  • In 2016, I drew a Florida Mountains, New Mexico Ibex tag. The hunt was in January 2017. I had an experience of a lifetime and hope to return someday.
The hunt is hard and I couldn't film everything, often electing to save the weight in my pack so I could climb easier. But, here's what we did film.
I hope you'll find the value I place in honesty with this video/vlog style I do. I wasn't perfect on my archery shooting and I don't hide that. Today, I get deeper and deeper into competition archery as a result. The ibex hunt changed my life and I will return completely different.

I really enjoyed this. Nice storytelling. That hunt looks insanely difficult-not to mention deadly if you step wrong. Way to push hard until the end. 🤙🏼

Thanks Brian. Love your content as well. I hope for no other tag as much as I want that tag again!! Pretty difficult to catch a break on those old white ones ... though, I did pass a few shot opportunities through the week on a few younger ones that I wussed out on and didn't carry the camera to film trying to save any weight I could. That mountain is unforgiving haha!

    Really good video bro!
Spent time on that mountain during the 2017 Oct archery hunt with both my sons! We had taken lots of photos and videos during our time on the rock, with the intention of posting to UA-cam. We harvested a 26” Billy and spent 2 days looking for him, then one morning another hunter came to our camp and said he had located a dead Billy near needles eye two draws and 500’ elevation gain from where I had shot him! He gave us coordinates and we went and retrieved him, still had my arrow in him.
We never posted the video due to we losing our hunting partner to a tragic accident, I made another video in honor of him but just have not put it out either!
Your video just brought back a flood of emotions and great memories!
Thank you and I hope you can make it back again!

Best of luck on yours! Coues is something I have on the wish list to try someday. I didn't know the Coues country is also fairly close to the Floridas.

Awesome Video Braddah Ryan! Mahalo for taking us along on your Ibex journey, my heart was racing when you mentioned the first shot lol. Thank you for everything that you do to conserve public hunting in Hawaii. Wishing you the best on your upcoming adventures.

These Ibex were given to U.S in the Mid 60's by the then Shah of Iran. They are thriving in Florida mountains. Their numbers are high due to the great terrain and habitat but the hunt just doesn't lend itself to Bow. Use a gun.
It was really terrible that the guide didn't finish the badly wounded animal off using a gun and tag it. I would put the chances of him living at 5% and an agonizing, slow, painful death at 95%. Use a gun in gun territory, which this one is, for sure. We should all be safe and ethical in treatment of wildlife.

I drew the tag from the nonresident, non outfitter pool. Unguided. It is an archery only season.
