    Thanks for the attention to small details. Plenty of How to Weld videos out there but yours is the only one that gives the information on what the hell to weld and how to set up for it. Far more useful!

      5th Street Fab Shop . You're a good man. When the haters, the do nothing know it alls who think the world owes them a living, start dropping critical remarks with, of course, no solid useful information on how to do anything better, please do all the good positive and worthwhile people I see in comments a favour and completely ignore the negative. Too many UA-camr lose their drive and enthusiasm listening to them. Thanks for the reply.

    Do you have a particular method for tacking and welding these coped frames so they don't potato chip when you weld them up?

      I always try to weld the outside corners first. Then weld out the others. I'll clamp them down if I can.

    Great tips! But I always cut angle iron with the angle side up for (upside down V) of course just cutting to length not miters......I found it’s easier on the blade!

    Thank you for sharing you saved my ass. Im a Hvac guy not a shop guy. They want me to fab this aluminum angle frame. Its got to sit flat so I either need to miter or notch. Going with notch. Hey @ 6:52 the word your looking for is True Length. The true length will change depending on the degree of the angle. Have a good 1 bro.

    6:43
    The reason that 45 degree cut is longer than the 90 and the reason why they dont match up is because the 45 degree cut is the hypotenuse of a right triangle. The hypotenuse of a r triangle is always longest... thats why it is longer than the 90 degree cut. Or put differently its the reason a 90 degree cut wont equally match in length to a 45 degree cut... its not as long

    Thanks for the vid. I "invented" the square-stock method myself just recently and it seems to work fine, but I'm on here because every piece of info I can find online (and in the saw manual) says that you should only cut angle iron when the corner is pointing up. But no one ever says why--it's just one of those rules that's passed on but never explained. Does anyone out there know why that's a rule and what the downsides of mitering angle iron are?

    • @5thStreetFab
      @5thStreetFab  7 років тому +1

      i havent had any real problems with it. It takes some time to get it dialed so it cuts straight and it cuts slowly but other than that i like it a lot!

    I'm making a frame soon and I was going to cut a miter in the angle iron with a grinder but I like the coping method, easier and hopefully will hold better as a foot frame from my Anvil.

      5th Street Fab Shop you're welcome. Another alternative is to copy your videos over wifi, if you have access. I use an app called file commander for that. You just need to share a directory from your pc (I'd recommend some public directory where you don't keep any sensible stuff). It takes a little longer to copy though.
