How’s it going gunny Have you tried mixing your primer shade in water base if you haven’t it’s really handy to get your primer shade just change the mix to greymatic on your colour code search then type in you g shade it’s very handy for coverage. Great channel cheers.
I'm an old school autobody tech and currently mix paint for a living. Deal mostly with axalta systems. Cromax pro is our only water, but for solvents, Montana big sky, and Nason. We also deal with besa's urki mix pro as well as their industrial line.
Nothing covers like the cromax, and the fact you don't need it to flash between coats. Shits hard to beat.
But so many of my customers are old school too, and don't want anything other than a solvent.
I got a gallon here in a San Diego paint store for $100 bucks, it was a return so they just make up the price, im not a professional, I just paint parts here and there, I use the DevilBiss GTi pro that the Gunman got me in to, it likes to run, and mixing it is definitely by weight, don't use a measuring cup, other than that is pretty easy to use, it smells like Home Depot house paint, I think I'm definitely going to use it from now on.
Love your work , I use this scheme and the sg under coat works 1000% saves me loads of time !
What's SG? We only have a light grey primer ☹️
@@TheGunmanChannel the correct under coat it saves me loads of time and dries pretty quick
only ever really used envirobase (been painting for 6 years) i used baslac solvent for a little bit. but i really do enjoy the envirobase, i know a lot of people have colour issues. but man once you figure that system out its A class. nice video bro
You can change from parts to percentage by editing your rfu in paint manager xi, on the money with there being to many variants at times but if you click on the information “I” symbol it will tell you the origin and vehicles painted in that colour.
Awesome 👏 video gunny I was just about to go to bed and I see the video pops up haha 😂 the PPG system ain’t too bad because over here in Grenada 🇬🇩 the automotive art system does take more coat to get coverage gunny maybe because it’s on the cheap side lol 😂 much love gunny keep up the good work 👍👍👍👍👍👍🤙🤙🤙🤙👏👏👏💪💪💪🙏🙏🙏💯💯💯💯💯💯
Interesting video Gunny, I don't know what clearcoat Gabe uses as he has never mentioned the strange ratios you use, obviously it's PPG but probably a different clear. I'm still getting my head around my Kapci solvent scheme but I do like it and has good coverage, I tried some water based basecoat but had drying issues with my homemade booth so it had to be a solvent scheme. John UK.
I’ve recently used ppg for first time and looks like I’m stuck using it for my diy jobs. Have you ever experienced spidering? Panels were clean and dry. No solvent left. Got spidering/cracking look in few spots on fender arch and on flat roof of a t4. Was not fun fixing it in the heat of the moment. Any input would be appreciated since I’ll be using same ppg paint.
I just switched jobs an they use ppg evobase it does blend nice but everything you mentioned i feel is true same issues. The old shop i left was using spies Hecker so ppg is a little slower i feel but in all not a bad product keep up the video's bro..
its weird because in canada atleast where i am in canada the ppg color match blows cromax out of the water i only have to tint a couple cars a year out of maybe 800-1000 cars where as my buddy that works at a cromax shop and has to tint every day.
You can use the Deltron line of primers I’m sure they’re envirobase compatible. Talk to the rep, I use dps3055 and it comes in all gray shades, and use ENV sealer over top and deltron base over that
Hi gunny. You have the option on that computer to make any G shade 1-7 in waterborne basecoat.
Always use the DA last. Best practice. For all paints.
can you do some sprayouts to show how much spraying technique changes colour?
I go with the camera over the color chips. And I've been having great results for about 3 months now. I've only been spraying this paint for 8 months now but I've been painting for close to 30 years. I've always lived by the chips I never used the camera except for on Volkswagen because sometimes it's hard to get to the paint codes now I use the camera on every car And like I said I've been having great results at least with this paintline.
Do you always spray and check the colour?
That’s interesting, my experience with spies here is the US Is similar to what you’re saying about ppg when it comes to the color chips.
A lot of the jobs we paint will have 5-6 chips and none really look all that good. I’ve also found that 90% of the time the chip is a shade lighter than when you go a spray out.
I can't help but think it's a regional issue then.
in canada the big paint companies care more about making money than how many spray out cards you have to do to match a color (more spray out cards means more money). I dont even have a paint rep anymore, not a helpful one anyways. they tell me to look on the computer for the TDS sheets or instruction sheets. im sure there new moto is "mistakes mean money" for the paint companies. so why would they help us painters with better color matching. good thing for your vids Gunman
What gun do you use to spray the ppg envirobase base coat?
The new spectra system is way better than the old one push the vendors to get you the new one!
I use aqua max ,ppg in Scotland.I i have had problems since day one with dark tinters .Lumps of dirt clogging paint strainers.Pait reps don't know why.Any tips😢
We have the same issue with chunks of crap in the strainers in the dark colours. It's really annoying
Just in regards to the colour scoring with the spectro, 1-15 on metallics is generally blendable and 1-5 on solid colours, the spectro for me is overated if it's a tricky colour the higher score is generally a better score, has its flaws but is a decent system l, clear coats and primers are tops imo
I'm still solvent but they're really pushing me to water. Looking at the standoblue and envirobase but leaning toward standoblue.
Definitely Standoblue better system. Steeper learning curve, but much better when you get it.
Solvent is way better. Envrobase doesn't cover or dry in humidity. Too many additives required also.
@@TheGunmanChannel you must be color blind
Reduction is all about viscosity to conditions. I use my din4 at least one a week to dial it in. Viscosity is king.
Try the ppg ec530 or 550 clear
I tint every color for ppgs solvent line. They have terrible matches
I have sprayed PPG AuqaBase for 15 years now and I have one hate about the product, It HATES HUMIDITY, and takes forever for it to blow dry between coats and if you push it , in a few months time you will have delamanation in areas that are not fully dry!
And when you live in a high humidity area this SUCKS for production!!!
Have not tried other products to have a base line where AuqaBase truly stands in the Refinish Products out there!
Our Cromax Pro rep, likes to push SATA too. They say you won't get results unless you use one. Its bullcrap. Lol.
They must get some kinda of a kickback from SATA from selling them or something
I started at the shop I’m at about the same time as you did at this shop. I’m spraying ppg envirobase here as well and came from cromax pro. To be completely honest I have very few good things to say about ppg water base. My biggest issue so far is hiding a sealer edge. I seem to have to sand out the edge in my basecoat on all high metallics. Is there anything you’ve found that works? My ppg rep said to use the 490 and I do, but it only hides it so much. Any help would be appreciated
Our shop just started the transition to ppg from ultra 9k by sherwin and I tell you what, I just not a fan of ppg yet
Why in the heck did they swap from ultra 9k?
@@streetstylegarage7399K is a unicorn, nobody uses that trash, PPG is the most used paint system in the world
PPG coatings are not the best performers in the aerospace industry ether. Sometimes I think they split gallon can in half and add thinner to get two cans.
😂😂
Looks like max mayer line in europe
a waterborne system i found easy to use and match over in the uk was Octoral, i never got to use the ppg waterborne but previous to the octoral we used ppg solvent and i did love that system
Instead of wet on wet mix up the correct g shade in basecoat, you can mix up g1- g7 in base generally a mix of T400 and T406, aids coverage and is better than using wow
I hear lots of people use this method. I might even just leave the common ones in a PPS pot ready to go
Guys what do you think of Sikkens as an overall brand? I am about to get my car repainted and was pondering over using Sikkens over Axalta and Glasurit. We will be using Solvent Based Sikkens and not the water based ones.
What was with the whole \'why i quit my job" video released 2 days ago and then taken down??
Yeah I got notified for that too, I was like "damn, that was fast" Than saw it was removed, so probably just incorrect upload.
I have been uploading my catalogue to Rumble and Bitchute, for some reason Rumble linked to my UA-cam channel and published here too. It was an old video intended to only go on my alternate media accounts. I didn't realise it even went here until a friend messaged me saying, oh you quit again 😜
Is Metalux good stuff?
he has actually done a review video on it on his channel long time ago.
@@mydogzty Awesome, thanks. I will look it up!
Bro
Sometimes I catch myself yelling at the computer like why ppg why come on already lol
😂😂😂 not just you
I was considering importing this ppg line to my country, but after this video I am not so sure. mmmmm I don't know what think now. sad.
It’s the most used water system in the world, more than all competitors combined so…. Sell the trash and fail
Hey gunman check out kandy man on UA-cam .. real American painter right there
Why all the moaning used this paint for last 5 years no major colour issues
Always compound panel properly before camera
Most solids are edge to edge
Always blend metallics
And if you get the new clio orange in phone in sick lol
Are you in America?
I hear the American colours are much better. Here in Australia they're terrible.
@@TheGunmanChannel
Hey gunny no in uk
Sprayouts are the best way foward and using corrrect wet on wet g1,g5,g7 etc
All paint companies claim to be the best but in my experience ppg is a good allrounder
Love your posts btw
@@gary7014 I am building up a library of colours, it is helping. Sometimes struggle to get the clear to lay out nicely too. I think it needs a bit of heat or it goes peely.
@@TheGunmanChannel
It’s a good clear but yes hard to get a glass finish as just 2-1 no thinners as per data sheet
Our PPG rep says make sure you get that 1st coat on with no closure
Most of the stuff we do is run of the mill fords, jap stuff so no need for a top finish lol
PPG matches it’s chips, no other company does
Pro Tip: If you paint the whole car you never have to colour match (smiley face emoji here)
Not going to happen after 32 years gummy rotator cups
Lol.. good vid. Young painters think way too much.
Never had a color chip match or be bendable it's constant tinting
Then you're doing something wrong 😑
