    i would say this is very ambitious, but it has been done before, there is GHPC and the tanks in Red Orchestra 2, and if you could, attempting to get in to contact with the GHPC devs could be very insightful, and the devs at operation harsh doorstop could also be beneficial for the infantry and weapons side of things.

    One thing id really love to see, that no other game has done afaik, is when a shellhole is created, to actually be able to see through it. Ie, if a 50mm round goes through a plate, being able to then look out of said hole. Would be really cool

      thats because it would require a lot more performance or generic holes that don't match the vehicle.
      So either make it transparent where the bullet hit, in real time, or have a switch with generic dmg.

    Something to keep in mind is that the difference between WWII projectiles like APCR/APHE is VASTLY different from APFSDS. Whereas the APHE might ricochet in one piece on the UFP of an Abrams, APFSDS will shred itself and tumble into ineffectivity. Also, depending on the round in WWII, capped shells will have better penetration angles than non capped shells.
    This looks pretty great so far though, and I'm rootin' for y'all!

    On some of my tests with lead plates (for down scaled physics reasons) the bullet would loose most of its velocity and stop but it would have torn out a chunk of lead in its place of impact that would be roughly the same size. This chunk would then be thrown into the back board with considerable speed

      Oh yeah and I had a little thought. In other games (you know the one) flame throwers did practically nothing to tanks. However. I heard that Russian soldiers would be able to kill German tank crews with Molotov cocktails because the heat of the flame would cook them from the outside like a Dutch oven. Not to mention the oxygen starvation

    Suggestion shrapnel does not fly straight at then arc down it is almost always a weird shardy shape it would really Tumble and roll in the air but still be mostly straight at high speed

    I'm very excited to see this game develop, one feature I want to be added, which I don't know if it is already being worked on or not, is that instead of having a generic HP system for each of the soldiers/tank crew etc, there would be individual hit points for each of the limbs, providing certain nerfs, when lost, sometimes being detrimental, such as losing your arms as a gunner would make it so you couldn't fire the cannon.

    I'm am so happy youtube recommended me this lol. I am excited to see where it goes!
    that panzer 4 model is really crisp! especially the interior, lots of little details that add so much to the model, not to mention the textures! all the streaks and grime, the weld beads, so good. well done!
    A suggestion for the damage model pertaining to HE shells (if this hasn't been thought of or considered already). It would be cool if HE still did damage to the tank even though it didn't perforate the armor plate. While I cant with authority say exactly what kind of damage HE would do. But I imagine getting hit with something heavy going really quick and then exploding would impart a lot of force. and that force would probably bulge, or crack the armor plate, or knock things loose inside the tank. or mybe even jam the turret or elevation mechanism.

    FINALLY someone making a good tank game using Unreal Engine! Can’t wait what this will become. And all the real time shrapnel stuff is sick. PLEASE try making the shell penetration mechanics as realistic as possible, so there’s no funny business like in war thunder. Like a simple version of a simulated bullet penetration simulation. Idk how hard that’d be though…

    Not really sure how much value you guys would get from this since the engines are so vastly different but I would suggest messing around with the TABS mod for teardown for ideas of satisfying visual damage. You can physically see the holes shells make and whole parts will come off with some explosions. Again I know being that teardown was built with destruction in mind and it's systems cannot be replicated in this game that it wouldn't be exact but I think it could work for reference to model some damaged tanks

    I've been waiting for an fps game to have tanks with modeled interiors, where the player getting into the tank is still modeled and in first person view, and can be hurt by penetrating rounds and overpressure.

    Crazy potential here guys please keep up the good work, I really want a more popular and better game than WT those greedy goblins have held the top for too long and some fresh new faces with bright ideas and the realistic mechanics you are planning will blow away any competition in the MP realistic tank combat.     I would love to see a system of the armor getting progressively weakenend in one spot if it got shot multiple times and if your armour got pened it would leave a hole even cooler would be you could shoot through the hole i dont know how pheasable it is but would be so cool to see and how different armour like cast and welding would handle differently because of hardness and how brittle it would be

    It would be very funny if you add boiling vessel damage model in some British tanks if you guys are planning to add one, you can boil tea with it until it gets damaged -and the British crews starts to scream in horror-

      Appreciate that! Yeah weather will definitely have physical impacts on the game. E.g. heavy wind will affect ballistics, snow will effect traction and speed... etc

    I was ready to suggest that the spall and shrapnel maybe can be handled by RT cores doing some work, but it's not that easy, since even I don't have a GPU with RT capabilities.

    For the damage model, I think it would be a lot more interesting (and difficult) to model individual subcomponents, such as the fuel lines for tanks/engines or for the crew members their torsos vs their legs so a shell hitting their legs isnt lethal.
    Additionly, I am a meteorology student and storm chaser and if you need more help with the weather system (idk how experienced the guy you have if theyre a meteorologist ignore this bit) I'm def up to give some advice if you wish to go more in depth there

    Very minor detail but i do have an eye for it: if it is snowing the tank should indeed be covered in snow. but wouldn't it melt on the armor around the engine, the barrel after a shot, the muffler, etc.?
    that's knitpicking on the highest level but it'd be awesome

    its interesting youre aiming for realism even when it comes to repairing the tanks, as in not every tank is capable of repairing the same things, as this is the first game ive heard of doing this
    tho im wondering what your source for the "Kanonegranate rot panzer" is as ive only hear the terms "PzGr rot" and "Panzergranate rot"

    Out of curiosity, how will the damage look? For example, will there just be a small decal where a tank was penetrated/hit? Or will it be a bit more detailed? Will there be variations similar to war thunder such as ricochette marks or different types of hit decals depending on what type of shell was used? I'm looking forward to this!

      We plan for the damage visualisation to be fairly in-depth. We want to ideally add actual holes where shells have penetrated, along with 3D decals of hit marks for large and small calibre weapons, and scratches for ricochets... etc

      @@FirlimainWTthe Panzer IV Ausf E was the last model to have the asymmetric front hull, where the F goes back to the flat front plate and also increases the armor to 50mm at the front.
      This is definitely an Ausf E. (I also know because the dev team asked me to help them model it)

    While I hope you can do all you are planning, a focus on ww2 and post war seems a lot of work
    WW2 Steel alone differs from early war geman to late war german "suprise" quality steel, Different Soviet Plants had different methods, early t-34s lacking sights or gun adjustable optics ,air vents only being added later etc, shermans going from cast to weld etc
    And Modern stuff has the problen with classification of materials, meaning aproximations are used.

    Hey I’m just curious, but what is the idea on a bailed out crew. What i mean is what happens to player crew members after bailing out of a destroyed tank?

      That's great to hear! Players control their own characters in first person, so they can do whatever they want. They could pick up a gun and fight alongside the infantry, hitch a ride back to a supply depot to get a new tank, or really whatever they want. It's a mix of a big online battlefield and an open world.

    I have a question: are view port and periscopes modelled (in the sense that you have to look through them)? and if yes would it be in consideration that if the get hit, that you could still "look through" them but since they got hit there would be cracketd glass or even pitch black if it got destroyed compleatly? And also the addition of weather effects like raindrops on the sights

      @@AcesandArmour until a game is released or something resembling it, it is an amalgamation of cool tech show casing what the developers are capable of doing. Since there’s no clear path or direction but just armour and ballistic physics it’s a tech demonstration with the facade of it potentially being apart of a game.
      Hence why I labeled this a tech demo.
      There are a plethora of games that suck off the desires of a open world combat simulation that really are just”check out how cool our gunsmith system is” and that’s all it is
      Anyway it would be a dam shame if you guys developed a fkn beautiful game to prove me wrong
      Bcs all I see atm
      Is hopes and dreams and foundations of what could be.

      Don't worry about performance, it's a serious consideration for us, and has been from the beginning of development. Technologies like Nanite in UE5 make the amount of polygons far less from a performance factor than previously, and even then this model is very well optimised, it has less than 300K polygons. For context, that would mean a PS3 from 2006 could run over 50 of them simultaneously.

    Is the area around a shell hit on armour (blocked or ricocheted) going to be weakened like on a real tank? It would make for interesting battles between small cannons and medium or heavy tanks.
