The rumor mill was 100% off this time. Basically nothing rumored ended up coming to fruition. The squared-edge Apple Watch Series 7 was a sham, the astrophotography, satellite, and always-on displays rumored for the iPhone 13 series were nowhere to be seen, and the iPad mini... okay, well the iPad mini rumors were pretty spot on. But the event was a little weird. Apple wan't 100% straight up about the A15 SoC, the SoC present in the Apple Watch Series 7 (spoiler alert: it's the same as the Series 6), and some of their marketing copy is downright shady. In this video, I break down everything you need to know about the Apple September 2021 iPhone event.

I feel that Apple have lost their way. They're not really making anything innovative, they're just iterating on the same design. They're focusing the mass audience and not the professional users, or those that are after the most power from their Macs etc. I've just gone from an iPhone 6S to a X, to see a slight difference in performance/battery/form factor. I got rid of my MacPro 2013 for a MacBook Pro 2019 last year as the laptop out performed that MacPro. I'd rather they increased the gap between launch cycles and gave us new designs and advanced technology.

Hey Quinn, I'm not sure if anyone else's iPhone has done this, but I own an iPhone 12 and I noticed that recently my phone actually unlocks using face ID even though I'm wearing a mask. I was confused at first and went and checked it again. Now it doesn't work 100% of the time, but it was working 9 out of 10 tries. Not sure if this is a software thing?
You know what I like about this channel. The calmness. Everyone else is so hyper energetic. I love the relaxing tone of these videos. It's like reading a nice relaxing book

“Leading”-in this context-rhymes with “bedding”. It comes from ye olde mechanical typesetting days when thin strips of lead (Pb) separated lines of text. More space required more lead. So, leading. Also rhymes with setting, petting, and shredding, but not with such gardening activities as seeding or weeding.

No you aren't. It is another representation of their incredibly toxic business practices. It is disgusting to see any large company shit on and steal from up incoming designers and businesses.
I upgraded my stuff three years ago. I want to keep them at least for five. This year hasn’t changed my mind on that.
Agreed, I got my SE last year, iPad Pro last year. Both my mini 3 and S2 weren’t getting updates anymore. And they’re slow af so I got an upgrade.
But that new iPad mini tho…. Should’ve came out last year when I was upgrading smh. Hopefully the SE2 Apple Watch has that new screen

iPhone X here, and the only 2 things I want are better battery and taking better pictures at night. Apart from that I’m happy with it. Performance is great. This year was such a minor upgrade I’m thinking I’ll wait until next year.

This is why my friends and I switched to shared albums in the Apple photos app. No quality degrade!!!
Those rack focus when passing the ball or shots on goal, are gonna be epic.
It's interesting to note that the new Cinematic mode only supports 1080p30 too so *definitely* not usable for anything resembling modern filmmaking.

Why? Many many Apple users do. It's not very novel anymore. Even "normal" iPhone users still complain about the removal of the headphone jack.
The two things I took away from the event:
iPhone 13: Finally has ProMotion (been holding out for it since 11)
iPad Mini: Hey that's actually kinda cool I might get one
Only the Pro versions though

I just got the 11 inch iPadPro this spring (UA-cam would no longer open without a nonexistent update for my old mini). I’m holding out for glucose monitoring before upgrading my series 3 watch, and the iPhone 10 is doing just fine for me for now, so I can wait as long as the battery still holds a charge or until I have to upgrade to pair with a new hotness (like augmented reality glasses, for instance, should they actually come to market). I typically look at a 5 to 10 year upgrade cycle as long as the current tech is still working for me. The iPhone 10 was my 1st smart phone, for example.

I’ve had the iPhone 12 mini for this year too and honestly, I LOVE the form factor and usability. The only two things that bothered me about a month In were the screen brightness outdoors and battery life. I think I’ll be getting the 13 mini in hopes to mitigate those issues with the same phenomenal one handedness!

If they had an iPhone 13 Pro mini that would be HUGE!!! I like the mini, regular, and max for different reasons and having that additional option within the pro line would be a wetdream.

Really great video: super insights & knowledge tidbits that I hadn't heard elsewhere, great analysis and it's really nice to see some balance to offset all the FUD coming out of Apple's marketing machine. I'm due an upgrade on the phone, so will be going for the 13 Pro for the 120Mhz display and the cameras, but will be hard-passing on the Apple Watch 7 due to the lack of updates for YET ANOTHER YEAR. Guess I'll be sticking with the AW5 with the always on screen turned off due to how much my battery has degraded. Thanks!

4:19 I believe it! The camera in my old Samsung Galaxy S9 was on paper superior to the camera on my iPhone 6S it replaced, but it took awful photos in comparison. When you’re not shooting RAW, the way that the phone processes and takes the photos has a huge affect!

Amazing video as always! But heads up - it’s pronounced “leading” as in lead, the metal. Old school typesetters would set the spacing with lead in between the lines.

9:32 The leading pronounced LEAD - ing, like the lead they used to use to space the text out in the printing presses to gain distance from the letters.
That’s why they postponed on device photo scanning. They were afraid that their upgrades this year will not be enough for people to upgrade.

Wow! You're the 1st person on a UA-cam video to say Airdrop is slow. Other "content creators" talk about it like it moves a lot of data across Apple devices like magic. Especially when talking about the lightning port still being used on the iPhone. I feel the lightning port is still easy money for Apple. Why give it up until they have to.

Slow is relative. It’s awesome for quick videos and photos. For a 256GB ProRes file, it’s gonna take friggin’ forever.
When you're talking about AirDrop, none is thinking of 256gb files, how many people have files those large that needs to be moved? AirDrop is fast and easy for 99.9% of people and their needs

I don’t blame you bud , it really for the most part was a lot of hype and it droned on and on , I fell asleep through the first time I tried to watch it , glutton for punishment I did watch it a second time and managed to stay awake in case I missed something.
The small and base iPad upgrades did look good though.
8:20 sounds like we're in the exact same niche. Just ordered my first iPad Mini ever after having had the iPad Pro (2020) and loving it so much I ditched my Macbook Air. The iPad Mini 6 is going to be awesome for pilots (if you watched the event you know how they brought it up a couple times). I can't wait to be able to have something that fits in my lap that I can write down ATC instructions with using an Apple Pencil.

As a 12 user, you’re honestly not missing out. These are just slightly upgraded X’s lol. Maybe when the 15 comes out it’ll be something totally new, and then it’ll be worth to actually upgrade.
My iPhone X still feels brand new to me. No feature of newer iPhones makes me want to upgrade. Sure they're better, but these last four generations have been sooooo boring.
Still holding on to my X as well. I was hoping for a mini with a bigger battery AND usb-c, just cant get my head around they still use lightning. I'll get my hopes up for the 14 mini with usbc than..

Came here to say this. It's the noun "leading" based on the metal, not the gerund form of the verb "to lead" and it refers to the metal slug typographers put between lines of text for a printing press. Bonus, kerning is related to the letter spacing and refers to the way individual letters butt up against each other to be more pleasing to the eye.

First time here, this video was put together really nicely.
If we really look at who the new iPhone is for, it's not for people coming from a 11 or 12. It's for those that need to replace their iPhone 7, 8 or 6S. And coming from those, there are major leaps ahead. Apple knows people hold onto their phones for much longer, that's why the changes are only incremental at this point. Sad but true unfortunately that real innovation on the iPhone range is long gone.
True but many people coming from a 7, 8, or 6S don’t want to downgrade to FaceID when they’re used to quick unlocking. If Apple had put TouchID in the power button like on their iPads, it would be the perfect upgrade and sell like hot cakes. Big missed opportunity in my opinion.
First person I've seen with a good take, I've seen way to many people comment "This event was super boring with no real updates, btw I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max". I wouldn't say only iPhone innovation is over but phones in general, they've reached their peak with only small changes left like moving things under display
As an iwatch s3 original owner I’m really happy. It works with Apple Pay and unlocks my Mac. Have not seen any reason to upgrade 😁.Oldest tech I have ever had probably.

Watching a video from Quinn is always a totally different experience than from anyone else. Here you actually get told the stuff nobody mentions: stolen keyboard on Watch, leading on Watch and storage limitation for ProRes. This information is the reason why I prefer him over every youtube and it’s like this in every video
apple needs to innovate again to make you WANT the product. doesn't look like they care though since they know it'll sell regardless
There might not be much room to innovate tbh. These kinds of things are a lot harder than they seem to come up with and construct pragmatically

The iPhone 13 still dosen't have ProMotion and the battery is still short and they priced it at 800$??? It's 2021 Apple should be able to get it right! To be fair, where is apple going to innovate in now? About the only thing left would be an underscreen fingerprint reader but current and future technology needs to mature before we get something like underscreen cameras or anything like that. All mobile phones in the last few years have been in a kinda holding pattern aside from design, which apple notoriously doesn't rock the boat on

Man I had the exact same thoughts as you on the iPad mini. I was sold on it until they announced the price bump. $499 for an iPad mini is ridiculous, and it’s price only makes me want to go for the iPad Air instead

The new display, bigger battery, smaller notch, better camera, and new processor are all welcome upgrades.....but the one thing I want is "Always on Display". Why is that taking so long for Apple to implement? It seems as if they are never going to offer that on the iPhone! My iPhone 11 Pro is still working like a champ. For the way I use my phone I will not be upgrading.

Just FYI “Leading” is pronounced “led-ding”, like the element Lead (Pb), it comes from the days of type setting.
He's wrong about the iPad Mini. I know from the aviation sector alone that almost every student and instructor use them, they are almost critical in their role. I've also seen them used in medical fields and in a few others too. For me, I need something like the iPad mini just to be the something in between my desktop and my phone, and i'm a PC/Android guy.

I bought the serie3 watch…never could figure out how to use it. its been setting in my jewelry box since summer of 2018 unused! I regret buying ansd will NEVER get another one. Cant understand how they can be helpful except for being able to ping my iPhone when i have misplaced it.
Glad they stuck with curved casing for the watch.
A watch is something you wear all day on a very mobile joint so you need it to be comfortable.
Especially when there's the expectation you'll be excersising with it a lot as apple has been pushing their fitness services.
Can you imagine doing pushups with something square on your wrist? That's gunna dig into the skin a lot so when I saw all the leakers going on about a square design I though it was true because their phones have gone the same route but didn't think it was practical.
Honestly I think Apple released some internal fake information to flush out the leakers that they’re already suspicious of. E.g. “hey senior engineer Jim, we’re gonna be making a square watch this year. This is top secret.”
Next day, everyone talking about how the watch is gonna be square.

on the other hand, whenever you talk about apple on a 15 minute+ video, it's always GOOD.
Realistically, this year was Apple's last chance to get me. I have wanted to try an iPhone but I refuse to go to lightning when literally every other device I travel with charges over USB-C. By next year, I doubt I'll be able to switch because the Google Assistant is becoming a bigger and bigger part of my life
Google Assistant is on iPhone and you can invoke it by double tapping the back of the iPhone if you have it set it up lol

Series 3 Baby, since day 1
Now to decide is I want to keep my 7 plus or upgrade/switch
I currently have a one plus 8t and most of my usage is using the kindle app to read. Im wanting to upgrade and an obvious pick is the z fold 3 for more screen, but I am not sure if I want to spend that much on one device. That and ive heard the battery life isnt the best. My other option is to wait for the pixel 6 or pixel 6 pro. But I am also tempted to go the iphone route and then just use the new ipad mini for most if not all of my reading. I have no clue which way to go with it.
