I love this song so much, it's my winner by far. I think it was a bit hurt by the 3 minute limit as if it did have a powerful climax after the breakdown it could've been even better and it could easily keep your attention for 3 more minutes. I'm glad you like it and hopefully it does well in Lisbon as it's already shaping up to be one of my all time favorites!
I would certainly not mind to hear it keep going! Maybe they'll release an extended version as well, who knows? heheh However, I should point out how much I adore this song on its own without my small complaint haha :)
It certainly is good enough, however everything leading up to it was incredible, which made me expect something outstanding to occur at the end. The song is a prime example of one that can go on for 5 minutes without losing hold of the listener, which is why I was slightly disappointed to hear it end the way it did :)
And the 3 minute rule from Eurovision is stupid. I think it should be at least 3:30. You can get a lot more creative with just an extra 30 seconds. some transitions or endings seem really forced because some song structures simply need slightly more time. including this one.
I completely agree with you! So many songs lose out on the complete experience they were meant for when they have to cut out parts of the song (like Italy last year) I must point out though, that I think it would've been interesting to hear this song with a different structure in which the first chorus is skipped to instead flow into a longer verse that can gradually build up to a longer lasting chorus with a more explosive impact towards the end. I somewhat feel like that approach could've been even greater for this song, but I could be totally wrong as well. Also, I still haven't heard anything about Italy cropping their song this year, but they will have to, right?
Yes Italy still has to cut their song. Maybe the live vocals and visuals will boost the last chorus. They could change some notes in the end to make it more explosive and I really hope so. That group can definitely sing
Oh yeah you're right. I made for my workouts a version of 15 min. It's so addicting. However I would NOT change the ending. This mystical Bulgarian traditional tune is everything, and the very natural finale of the song.
Very soon we will congratulate ONE MILLION visitors, guys! ✋ Well done, Bulgaria. You really deserve it. 🌟 Dear friends from all over the world, many thanks for that you do like our great piece of art. Bulgaria does value your big love and support! 💓 You are AMAZING all ! 🌹 UNIVERSE FOR THE WIN ! 👑
I agree with u that something is missing at the end but I must say that this is why I love this song it makes me wanna listen to it again and again...this is masterpiece!
True, the way it ends makes you want to repeat it to experience the whole thing again, could be a masterclass tactic from the song-writers part there! :)
Valya Todorova I think this one has a big chance of growing on me over the following days. It has so many concepts I adore, so I'll look into it some more :)
I also feel that the song is a bit short and yes, it could have had one more awesome chorus, but according to the Eurovision rules it should be around 3 minutes long. I guess this just means that we can't get enough of this song. :)
Couldn't have said it better myself! It's the rules and we gotta deal with them. However, I think that I will only be frustrated with this during the first few listenings because I was expecting something else, once you get into this structure, I'm sure it's awesome as well! :)
Great review! You seem very musically intelligent in which the way you can analyse the song. I agree that there could be a big last chorus at the end. However, it's still a great song :)
Thank you very much! I try to always pay attention to everything occurring in the songs so it's always great to see that being appreciated! Definitely a stellar entry regardless of the ending! :)
Its so good piece, that you want never stop it and with that i explain your disappointment in the end of the song. Secondly, you do not feel that the time runs out, cause you get so deep into the song. Well done comments!
Exactly! It's so easy to get dragged into the entire setting of this song so you complete lose sense of time. It transforms you into a different world which is both incredible and a slight shame at the same time because it feels too short
Actually, there's an explosion just before the end of the song. Then everything quiet down, because it sinks into a black hole. If you listen to this piece without the voices, you will feel this cosmic energy even better. This is for cosmic love, beyond all material things. I love your reaction, it was very funny :)
This song is so dark and mysterious, i really love this. To be honest I prefer this than last year. It's so unique, and powerful. It could be very good Soundtrack! Anyway love ur reaction! Please react to Belgium/Greece or Cyprus please🙏🏻💓
I love this! It kind of reminds me of Skeletons from last year as well as The Hardkiss’s music. I do think it could use a bit more power in some places, but I think it’s going to look amazing on stage. Bulgaria’s been on fire lately. Can’t wait to see this in May.
Groot, Groot, u're my favourite reviewer! And your reaction after the end of the song is just PRICELESS! :D I'm glad you like our song. I wish we could win but the competition is soo tight this year... ;( I feel like no matter what we do, we won't make it for victory. In my opinion BONES has the full package: the best balance between message, melody, instrumental, emotion, accessibility and edge/innovation. It's just right, not too much, but just enough to make u want more. I believe it's too outlandish for this competition and the juries will not appreciate it. There are so many safer entries to vote for: Italy, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden, etc. It might be too challenging for them to accept it. Not always the best concepts win. In my opinion Italy could become a comfortable winner - a deeply moving song in classic Italian pop with a humanitarian cause and raw singing. They're very explicit about their message while we are metaphorical... We are just too difficult for some people to grasp. :( I think that the televote will support us more than the juries (just like every year). I hope for the best for us and, please, keep doing such wonderful reviews!!!! You help so much to the uneducated viewer, LOL! Good luck! :D :D :D
Oh thank you so much for all your lovely words! I wish you the best of luck this year, I'm sure you'll pull off something magical on stage once again! :)
It's an ear catcher and can't stop listening it. Nevertheless the critics are true. After the first chorus you'd expect a bit more powerful 2nd verse and climax. It seems that the instrumental gains power and depth but the vocals don't follow. Zhana Bergendorff is famous for having quite powerful voice and it seems not properly utilized. The composition gains its climax at the fade out. Hope at the live the vocals will sound more captivating than that.
Same reaction as mine when I've listened - good start, it's building up, but the end "that's it?", I asked myself too. No peak at all. But I hope they will revamp the ending part. Thanks for your reaction video and honest opinion. :)
Your reaction was the same as mind. I was SO mesmerised, nothing to do with it being released at early morning, I was just... In space. And then it ended like... "out" WHAT THE FUCK?! This song is living proof that this 3 minute rule can, and does ruin certain songs. They had to cut it short. It felt forced. I still love the song but, I need, with urgency an extended version of the song.
Albania is another excample, only Bulgaria isn't my cup of tea. Tastes are different! The Albanian revamp / cut on 1.20 or so and still has the magic is amazing, but the original is the best. And then Italy last year who had to go to the cutting machine as well. There are lots of excamples. The same goes with the number of persons on stage. The national finals could have their own shows with all the persons they want, while the maximum in Eurovision is 6 persons! Lots of entries have been ruined by the rules during the years....
Linda Kristine Kjørlibråten Agree. The Albanian song suffered the same and the song is so amazing, it's a shame! Francesco Gabbani last year, and I am terrified for what they will do to the Italian song this year. I can't imagine what could they cut out without ruining it. I am genuinely worried. Then about the number of people on stage, my winner is suffering from it. Iriao is a 7-member band and now only 5. So, I don't know what could they do on stage. Will they bring at least one of the dancers? I have no idea. I really hope they figure out something. But yes, I think it would be a nice thing to modernise those rules a little bit.
Groot, thanks a lot for your emotional reaction and greetings from Bulgaria :) ! Definitely, "Bones" is not a love from first listening, 'cause it's so different, so unique, shocking, haunting!... If you wanna REALLY feel the message, the beat and the atmospheric sound, you've got to listen to it over and over, until it starts overwhelming, haunting and obsessing you all over! And I totally get you - you can't get enough of it, I can't either :). 3 min. are too short of a time to get enough of this masterpiece!... I'd love to hear from you about BONES 1 month later ;). Did you FEEL what I did? Now, that we're so close to MAY, what do you think about our entry this year?
And then you realized that Loreen was supposed to sing this. Imagine her powerful voice over this track. I think her voice could have prevented the lack of power in the chorus.
Actually Zhana's voice sounds more powerful in this version than Loreen's in the demo. Zhana sings both the bridges and the folk elements. She's a really creative performer!
I don't know what they'll do live. I managed to scratch a 30 sec video of the recording process through a friend. They all sounded INCREDIBLE together! (Snapped with a phone ;) ) In the last chorus Zhana was first singing the chorus part, then quickly switched to the folk part. they edited it of course, so it sounds very smooth in the recording. I think they'll not risk that tho and they'll bring a backing vocal to do the folk part only. There are just too many voices,LOL. But I'm sure that Zhana sings the folk parts in the start and the end. It's HER timbre and she has made several live performances of folk songs a couple years ago. It suits her. :)
I like the song. It has all the potential to sound horrible live, though, with the five vocalists that haven’t actually performed together before.. I think the bagpipe and the whole folk vibe in the end were meant to serve as a big finish for the song. It isn’t perfect, but it’s far less cheesy than a key change. I really don’t think this song is Eurovision material though. But then again, I thought the same of last years Bulgarian entry, and it did quite well. (Frankly, had the singer had similar sob story to the one the Portuguese guy had, it would have won). I don’t think we’ll see Eurovision in Sofia next year, but I’m often wrong about that. Might be a good reason to go home haha
Have to admit I was kind of surprised as well that it ended...Had to double check that it did and that it wasn't my computer playing tricks on me. But sadly, it did really end. It's actually boring, but I agree with you completely. I love this song, especially the vocals actually, but the ending..it's such a shame.
It does sound like that they couldn't fit the final chorus in due to the three minute rule. Like JNL said, the EBU might as well extend it to 3:30, though I do understand it would extend the runtime of the show significantly. I feel like as a standalone song it's perfectly fine without the final chorus, it is bothersome when comparing it to typical Eurovision songs. Regardless, this may still be in my top five, and I think solid live vocals may create an atmospheric and climactic ending.
As you said, surely it's not the end of the world that there isn't a final chorus. It just felt like the logical thing to feature there at the end when you listen to the song for the first time. Still, everything about this song screams for an incredible performance in Lisbon!
Well, my friend, we have agreed a whole a lot. I thought for a while that you were my «unknown twin brother» despite the big age lag, I believe is more than 25 years. Lol. But now it looks like twince also have different opinions! Sorry, this is like a long journey on a train where I have forgotten to bring my book and all the other around are either having company or something to read in. You migjt have been on the same train but in another place. You have also forgotten your book. There is another person there who has the same, and you really found your conversation partner. And then, suddenly your station is there, while you had so fun. For you, this journey could last for at least one more station, maybe 2. While I, sorry, I was glad that I finally was there......
Даниел Шахънски I know that, but it's not like I paid attention to how much time had passed while listening. I was completely dragged into the song and just wanted it to continue!
Андрей Боянов I truly didn't think three minutes went by that fast, it seemed like there was still time for the song to continue, while there really wasn't hahah
What is your opinion of Portugal's entry. They were one of the few whose national selection didn't get a top from you so we know nothing of your opinion on it.
I'm sorry, this is elevator music, premier class elevator music. It sounds pleasant, doesn't hurt anyone and is as slick as it gets. And as soon as the door opens it is gone for good.
What an Enormous Disappointment especially from last year (2017) was my favourite…“I love beyond the bones”!?! Well, it’s a new idea from Bulgaria music express how in love she’s…Sorry, but don’t like the song and neither the title!!!! Good Luck from Portugal!!!!!
Thanks for answering my opinion!!!! The music is nice but the lyrics ruin everything...I'll turn to my boyfriend and say:"Love you beyond to the bones"...he'll think I'm crazy!!!! But Respect. Last year, also didn't like the song from my Country, wanted that Bulgaria had won!!! And also this year, the Portuguese music is so Frustrating!!!! I prefer the one who was placed in second place but unlike the national Jury here, people didn't want a lesbian song...Portugal is still a very 'Blind' Country!!!!! I'm heterosexual and have some friends (women and men) with different sexual preferences and I Respect that!!!! Good Luck with your music that besides the title is much better than the Portuguese of this year...and also last year!!!!!
I wasn't Rude and Unkind!!!! Like already said, Bulgaria was my favourite last year and deserved to had won!!!! I didn't like the song from Portugal last year and neither like the one of this year!!!! About Politics, it happens every year at Eurovision, so don't blame me and Treat Me with Respect as I've Been Doing Until Now!!!!!!
hey Carla - you seem to be missing the point about the lyrics (don't mean this in a rude way). They mean I love beyond the flesh, the bones, the material - it is a song about loving the soul as it is a part of the Universe, whereas the body is mortal (turns into bones). They even mention that having international people in the group strengthens the point as it says: We don't judge by nationalities, we love beyond that. You can interpret it about hetero and homosexuality as well, as you mention in one of the comments. The lyrics add so much to the song and I hope you will enjoy it more after this explanation.
I love everything to the lead up to the chorus, especially right before it. But I am let down by a very generic and uninspiring chorus. "What is life if it's just only of the flesh and bones. Wanna thrive in the dust of the universe and way into unknown"; the harmonies are great. Then it falls flat at the chorus.
"I love beyond the bones"!? It'd have made much more sense if they'd sung ''I love beyond the FLESH". But bones? Not even cannibals pay attention to a person's bones. It's a very poor choice of a rhyming word...
J. Cesar Well, you're onto something there! I never really pay attention to average lyric work, the music is all I care about most of the time hahah :)
The bones are the core of a person's physical being though, while the flesh is only superficial. So this love is not only skin-deep, it goes even beyond the bodily core and into the more spiritual dimension. That's how I interpret it at least
The lyrics are about life being more than the material being of flesh and bones. "what is life... only of the flesh and bones" the idea is that love not being a physical thing and so life is not only in the flesh and bones so you love beyond the bones. I mean they are confusing and a bit weird but they are not complete non sense.
to the bone- all the way through, or very badly: I was frozen/chilled to the bone after waiting so long for the bus. One can also say- I love you to the bone. So there is already such a phrase in the English language. And in the song it is beyond the bone.
BULGARIA IS ON FIRE!!!! 🔥
I love this song so much, it's my winner by far. I think it was a bit hurt by the 3 minute limit as if it did have a powerful climax after the breakdown it could've been even better and it could easily keep your attention for 3 more minutes. I'm glad you like it and hopefully it does well in Lisbon as it's already shaping up to be one of my all time favorites!
omastar This song definitely needed another 30 seconds or so.
I would certainly not mind to hear it keep going! Maybe they'll release an extended version as well, who knows? heheh
However, I should point out how much I adore this song on its own without my small complaint haha :)
Bulgaria must be winner!!!)
The end of the song is enough good I think it has a part with Bulgarian folklore . Let's leave this to the jury and will see the answer .
Аbsolutely correct!
It certainly is good enough, however everything leading up to it was incredible, which made me expect something outstanding to occur at the end. The song is a prime example of one that can go on for 5 minutes without losing hold of the listener, which is why I was slightly disappointed to hear it end the way it did :)
Stanislav Miheev or let's vote instead!
Даниел Шахънски we can't vote and you know that :D
You were expecting more because you loved it... Of course it's normal when you can't get enough of something so brilliant 😉
Exactly! Every part of the song was just building into greater and greater things, I just didn't want it to end hahah :)
It's like in Space - there is no sound there, no climax, the song just disappears into space....
Георги Стоев i feel same like u
Кажете им! Много добро определение! ☺️
And the 3 minute rule from Eurovision is stupid. I think it should be at least 3:30. You can get a lot more creative with just an extra 30 seconds. some transitions or endings seem really forced because some song structures simply need slightly more time. including this one.
I completely agree with you! So many songs lose out on the complete experience they were meant for when they have to cut out parts of the song (like Italy last year)
I must point out though, that I think it would've been interesting to hear this song with a different structure in which the first chorus is skipped to instead flow into a longer verse that can gradually build up to a longer lasting chorus with a more explosive impact towards the end. I somewhat feel like that approach could've been even greater for this song, but I could be totally wrong as well.
Also, I still haven't heard anything about Italy cropping their song this year, but they will have to, right?
Esc JNL they should release the extended version tho
Yes Italy still has to cut their song. Maybe the live vocals and visuals will boost the last chorus. They could change some notes in the end to make it more explosive and I really hope so. That group can definitely sing
Oh yeah you're right. I made for my workouts a version of 15 min. It's so addicting. However I would NOT change the ending. This mystical Bulgarian traditional tune is everything, and the very natural finale of the song.

I agree with u that something is missing at the end but I must say that this is why I love this song it makes me wanna listen to it again and again...this is masterpiece!
True, the way it ends makes you want to repeat it to experience the whole thing again, could be a masterclass tactic from the song-writers part there! :)
Groot ur voice tho...makes me wanna kiss u like hours long 💍
Groot, Just look at the kiss at the end of the song. Read the lyrics all the time. It's so deep. This is the perfect song.
Valya Todorova I think this one has a big chance of growing on me over the following days. It has so many concepts I adore, so I'll look into it some more :)
Sofia 2019!
Thank you for reaction :) greetings from Bulgaria :)
You're welcome! :) It was a pleasure to experience this entry
This song is better than those from last two years 😉
hmm, I really really really loved the entry from last year, so I don't agree (yet, let's wait for the live hehe)
I also feel that the song is a bit short and yes, it could have had one more awesome chorus, but according to the Eurovision rules it should be around 3 minutes long. I guess this just means that we can't get enough of this song. :)

The song is epic and the end is like the Mystery of the bulgarian voices.
12 points to Bulgaria go from Russia 🇷🇺
I really like the song and it's definitely in my top 3
Great review! You seem very musically intelligent in which the way you can analyse the song. I agree that there could be a big last chorus at the end. However, it's still a great song :)

Definitely a stellar entry regardless of the ending! :)
I love the song, but you're right there is something missing in the end. Although I like the use of the bulgarian folklore
Stefani Svetoslavova what do you mean ‘bulgarian folklore’??

because of the stupid 3 minutes-rule there is no final chorus but this is the BEST song of ESC 2018. Undoubtely

Albania is another excample, only Bulgaria isn't my cup of tea. Tastes are different! The Albanian revamp / cut on 1.20 or so and still has the magic is amazing, but the original is the best. Did you FEEL what I did? Now, that we're so close to MAY, what do you think about our entry this year?
My friend there is a climax "I love beyond the bones" can you imagine how deep is that? Yes you can
And then you realized that Loreen was supposed to sing this. Imagine her powerful voice over this track. I think her voice could have prevented the lack of power in the chorus.
Jana Bergendorff has a very huge and powerful voice, in this song she uses just 30% of it.
Actually Zhana's voice sounds more powerful in this version than Loreen's in the demo. Zhana sings both the bridges and the folk elements. She's a really creative performer!
ludoedica yeah I'm looking forward to see this live! It's my first :)
I had actually not heard about that, but the atmosphere really would suit her style so I can definitely see that being the case!

I belive it will be a bit longer in the Finals. I hope so.
Hahha, we can't agree on EVERYTHING, although it seemed like it for quite some time! :)
They have only 3 minutes you know..
Даниел Шахънски I know that, but it's not like I paid attention to how much time had passed while listening. I was completely dragged into the song and just wanted it to continue!
Adamın şarkının sonundaki reaksiyonu 😊👏🇧🇬2018/1
Why expect more..the song must be 3 minutes on the rules
Андрей Боянов I truly didn't think three minutes went by that fast, it seemed like there was still time for the song to continue, while there really wasn't hahah
What is your opinion of Portugal's entry. They were one of the few whose national selection didn't get a top from you so we know nothing of your opinion on it.
I might actually do one of these videos for that one since I haven't checked it out yet! :)
Groot Thanks for the response. I love your reviews and your reactions have been priceless. Keep up the great work.
DDRaven Thank you so much! :)
I'm sorry, this is elevator music, premier class elevator music. It sounds pleasant, doesn't hurt anyone and is as slick as it gets. And as soon as the door opens it is gone for good.
Gopichant dum comment....

45 minutes away from being uploaded
Groot UUUU
or so I thought until Unicell decided to block the video worldwide :)

Well I also didn't like Portugal's last year entry, yet they won. You never know.
Aleksandar Kan 😂😂😂
I completely understand it! :-)
