I had a full service guy though I was mocking him until I said do I have to show you that it's really behind my license plate and he was blown away when he saw it pull down on my 86 Pontiac Parisienne
@@kelsycunningham8452 I have the same setup behind my 64 skylark. The plate was spring loaded and designed to where you used the factory gas cap to hold it open while filling and hold the cap while you do so. No more setting the cap on the pump or trunk lid
We're actually fully restoring a 57 belair 2 door power-pack model 293 4 barrel carb with a 2 speed power glide . No post between the windows. It's almost ready to bolt body on . Gonna be nice and new
Definitely my favorite part of older vehicles, the fuel filler location. Did the whole find the gas cap thing to my son at a car show years ago. Lol 3 laps in, i told him. Did the same thing to him with my full size Chrysler. Behind the license plate
I remember my grandma trading up from Bel-Air to Impala, one of the first years of the shoulder restraint. No one today could understand the ' Blanket Cord ' on the back of the front seat !
Those older cards had so many great features and little bonuses like this I had a 63 Bonneville convertible and it had things like a small section of rear seat with fold down to get access to the trunk under the hood and in the trunk there was a light that was removable with 25 ft of wire so you can walk all around the car and even look under it It was amazing the little things that they put into these cars... Back when you were proud to have a car made in Detroit
This was my dad's (rip) favorite cars tri-5's. He owned two 55's, three 56's, and three 57's One of my earliest "car guy" memories is of my dad having me "search" for the gas cap on a 57 (nomad I think, I was 4). Great times. I'd love to get one and build it for my memories. 🥲🙂 Every time I see one of these beautiful cars, I ALWAYS think of my dad and riding in his 56/57🤠 and sometimes I'll even take a picture of the car. If you see me taking a picture of your car, don't freak out. It's out of love 😎
65 years ago that was someone's pride and joy with that new car smell. Then it got run down, rusty and finally parked in the weeds. Heartbreaking how cheaply over the years many of these old classics could have been kept running.
This one was put down when it bent a rod and locked up back in the late 80s we saved it from the crusher in the early 2000s and someday if we have our way it will return to the road .. but yes I agree little things could have kept alot of these Beauties on the road thanks for commenting
I’m 20...I’ve been fooled by the “find the gas cap on the bel air joke”. Worked at an auto repair shop when I was 18 and this older guy told me to find the gas cap...after about a half hour I found it...
That prank about go fill it with gas was a good one. I've been helping work on classic cars of a variety of different makes. And some are hidden like that gas door is. The Impala is one that is behind the license plate...🤔🙄😊🙂. Keep on putting these old American iron videos out there and thank you very much for doing this. I prefer the older vehicles over the new ones anyday 🤝🙂💯🇺🇸🙏
When I was in my late teens I had a 57 Chevy light Blue roof bonnet blue body oh bonnet blue and large spur blue that was it I used to call it the Mayflower on account of all the Puritans that came across it was a 210 post
Aye mane say mane I love your content sir and I love to hear dat dduuddee with wrenches here love it love it lloovvee itttt I wish you'd make a song out it 🎶 💙 it

The “Del Ray” was an option package on the mid range “210” 2 door sedan only, it consisted of two tone checkerboard all vinyl upholstery and door panels with Belair dash trim. It was also referred to as a “club coupe” even though it wasn’t an actual two door hardtop.
The amount of technology, knowledge, being well informed, along with being highly educated on something that is unbelievably complicated and strategic that these car companies had back in the 1880’s is mind blowing and to see all the inventions and improvements and trial/errors they went through to get to where they are now in present day is honestly mind blowing by far. For someone to not only think of but to also create and invent a engine as well every other part that ends up becoming a finished car is outrageous to even think. While the thought of inventing something that is beyond complicated, super elaborate, and so intricate in a time period of life where they had not had the tools, technology, and knowledge etc. that we have present day is legit mind blowing but also truly interesting to know how smart and innovated people were decades ago and worked with what they had at the time and still end up creating and constructing such a far advanced item at that time period but end up being produced and improved for decades is amazing.
Thanks man I didn't know the V on the back ment V8.... I absolutely love Hideaway gas caps Hideaway headlights... it was really cool about the Chevy or Cadillac don't remember is pushing the reflector button and have it opened up to fill it up with gas
Hiding the gas cap was pretty common in the 70s as an anti scythen measure because of a skyrocketing fuel prices. They also just nice for asthetics too.
Back in those days you could pick from a long list of extras when you ordered your car. Interior trim, exterior trims came sort of mix & match, pick your choice.
My brother had one of these it was his first car in 1966. It had all of the gold trim it had a 283 four barrel engine. He traded it in on a new car in 1973 and to this day he wished he would have kept it. C’est la vie.
Great video, I want that car! But we're really going to confuse car collectors in the future, it's extremely common to see someone buy a new car and change out the badging for a higher model or options.
We have a '53 Eldorado and it has the gas cap under the rear left light. I also always let people search the gas cap when showing the car to somebody 😂
It had one of those super rare numbers matching high output 283 blocks and it sold for money then I paid for the car ...oh wait I traded for the car so money ahead the Dudes with Wrenches way
That’s “the one that got away” for me. A 4 door 57 Chevy was my first car (it was a clunker) but I was 15 and mowing lawns didn’t make enough. Mom sold it and I never saw it again. If I ever get the chance, I’ll get one just like it and fix it up.
Hey I have always wanted an older car like the bel- air or Monterrey style. But have always wondered how much it cost. Any idea on how much or a price range?
210 had the del ray option which was vinyl roof/interior liner that made it pretty much different from a regular 210. 56 also have hiddens doors that were more hidden really.
I like going to full service gas stations and telling the young dudes "fill er up" and as they are walking around scratching their head looking for the fuel neck I holler out the window "Is it in yet?" 🤣
I'm a fan of doing this in my 69 Impala, its also funny to pull in on what they think is the wrong side and they tell me that the nozzle won't reach, I tell them "sure it will!"
My personal favorite is a 55 but God do you have a beautiful 57. At least wash her my friend. She needs to look gorgeous at all times. Just my opinion. Much love.
All these awesome vehicles in the states just hanging out in paddocks for years with well not so much damage. Leave something like that here in New Zealand for 6 months and it'll be all gone...
The gold trim indicates that it came from the factory with the 283, and not the 265. Bel Air was the top trim level, the 210 (Two Ten) was a trim level, and the 150 (One Fifty) was the lowest trim level. The Del Ray was a 210 with leatherette and carpet. ☝️🐺🤠
Easy way..if the VIN starts with VC57, then it is a Belair with V8..lots of guys like to dress up their 210 or 150 as a true Belair by adding the gold trim

Thanks for watching to celebrate here's a burnout
That filler neck is more hidden than my 71 442 olds
I'd love to see that baby fixed up!
Omg yes please I wanna see it
omg, tag me pls when it's done
As long as it’s kept a 4 door. Tired of seeing 2 door conversions.
Well first you need an engine
@@UmmYeahOk That's funny. Do you have a stance on long bed to short bed conversions?
That gas cap is my moms favorite story from back in the day
My old Chrysler's had the filler behind the license plate. Often I'd 'forget' to put it back up after fill ups when photo radar was a thing here lol 😆

All this when there was a guy in uniform comming ou/ to fill it for you!!!
It was the top of the line trim level with a V8..
The 57 Chevy, most popular USED car ever built.
Celebrating almost 50 years of ownership of mine.

55 was in fender driver side 56 behind taillight "light flipped up" 57 well you showed it lol
All we need is the review on the 55 and the 56
