Introducing Behringer WASP VCF

- Put away that bug spray because this is one bug you don’t want to get rid of. In fact, we’re pretty sure it’s one you’re definitely going to welcome with open arms!
The Behringer WASP VCF is an authentic reproduction of the original “Wasp Deluxe” filter from the ‘70s. In fact, we’ve released the full-sized WASP DELUXE a few years back, but this time, we wanted to give you the same capabilities in a compact and easy to install module.

I used to work as a service engineer for the Electronic Dream Plant, makers of the Wasp. When the company folded, I sold a few mods, one of which was routing oscillator 2 to the filter cutoff for wonderful audio-rate modulation and throaty side-bands such as those that the Prophet could produce. Now that Chris Hugget (designer of the Wasp along with many other innovative synths and music tech) is no longer with us, having passed away in 2020, I am happy to see his legacy live on in this, and to see again the added functionality that I was able to give the Wasp. Incidentally, I do not recall any difference between the original Wasp and Wasp Deluxe filters. By the time EDP released their Wasp Deluxe, Chris was no longer with the company and the EDP Deluxe was the plastic-keyed Wasp in a different casing with the Caterpillar keyboard.
Yeahhhh yeahhhhhhhhh ofcourse you did, back to ur bedroom and play fortnite 😂
thank you for the nice explanation. Who came up with all those crazy names for those products such as the caterpillar, the spider and gnat?
Behringer has progressed from clones, to clones of clones.
Hopefully cloning clones and cloning clones of clones will eventually result in a "Chinese whispers" effect
And users get heated up about this endlessly, as if there were no bigger problems on this planet
This is like the wonderful A-124 VCF5 Wasp Filter module Doepfer put out that I bought way back in the 90s, which is one of my favorite models.
Yes I’ve been waiting for this from yall. I have the wasp but I want just the filter.
*"a sting in its tail"
('it's' is used only for a contraction of 'it is')
Wasp is my favorite synth.
Behringer has an original idea challenge: impossible
Let other manufacturers do original ideas. Behringer will keep releasing clones because they sell.
Well, guess I have to take more money from my bank account... again...
Thank you, Behringer. Can't wait for another legendary synth recreation (Polivoks, maybe 😉)
We need an Eurorack interface, just like the ES-9, but affordable. Hear us!
Bingo
oooh, come ooon, at least add some new feature (like on the linndrum, which looks awesome) or make the interface different from the doepfer wasp, anything...
for example include a switch for high resonance to make it self-oscillate (doepfer wasp cant do that unless you modify it)
It has the same issue that the original has: connections next to knobs instead of being at the bottom. Less space for the hand to tweak this beast! :P
I’m never super keen when B bring out things which you can currently buy from existing manufacturers but one thing which might make people choose this over the Deopfer A-124 is the depth. I had a B 104 skiff and the Doepfer modules would only fit in the deeper, Moog ones. Sad reality of modular life is you have to consider power, space, and module depth before you consider the shiny things. The board is parallel to the front panel on this one rather than at right angles so if you have a shallow case, this is what you should go for.
Bad graphic design on that panel. There shouldn't be lines drawn connecting the CV1 in and BP audio output sockets to controls that aren't related to them. I could excuse the line between CV1 and Freq since the CV1 does control the frequency directly, but the line between the BP out and Res control just adds confusion.
Absolutely. Update silk screen to remove the line from res!
Obviously done for aesthetic symmetry but it's not too bad; the BP output comes after the resonance control. They really just needed an in/out arrow head on every line.
True
Man this sounds great, almost getting into modular since Behringer modules are quite affordable!
A Doepfer A-124 is 88€ new and about 50 used. why buy the ripoff if you can get it from the og of eurorack? plus Doepfer stuff is built like a tank, and if it breaks, they have great customer service.
I'm into this.
We need a stereo filter guys
Behringer Swords?
@@skummelkatt MI Blades is not a stereo filter, its Two (dual) rich multimode filters.
Buy two of them?
and run them in dual mono 🤡
we havee already doepfer 1
And I can have 2 of them for less than the cost of 1 of those deeper ones
Is this one guaranteed to have a limited lifespan, like the Doepfer one … ? 🙃
good question, they're known to blow
The filter uses a cmos chip for the buffers, they break easily when there’s static electricity.
It's a bit of a shame to have reproduced the A-124 without providing CV control of the Mix or, at least, the Resonance.
I AM guessing ornament and crime is in works.
Awesome!
Ah I was hoping this was a plug-in
I am so glad it isn't.
YES YES YES...seriously keep them coming Behringer....
You’re telling me…people want this more than the Hirotribe?!?!? Get real! Release the Hirotribe!
Website says you can buy it at different retailers but none of them have it available yet. When will it be available?
I'd honestly be happy if the BCR32 would be released somewhere in 2025, or will it take a 5th year to finish it?
Just as my A-124-2SE Slim Line Wasp Filter arrived. Thanks Behringer lol.
Slimline Doepfer is soooo sexy though. You’ll get a lot of drools from we fools. Had it been available, I’d ‘ve gotten it instead back in covid times
deeper stuff is built much better though
Why? Totally unnecessary move again. I'm happy to keep my Wasp Filter by Doepfer!
Totally unnecessary for you. Other people do actually exist. Imagine that!
Dann doch lieber von Doepfer, da ist die Qualität besser und die Buchsen sind
mit der Frontplatte verschraubt, das bekommt Behringer nicht hin und wäre
gar nicht mal so ein mehr Kostenaufwand.
Behringer has done it... again!
Behringer, a gift from God to humanity!
Haha, why the hell would you deliberately choose to confuse users by drawing a connecting line between "BP Out" and "Reso"?
Awesome… Thanks Patchdog !
Every time Uli & the gang release a new module I'm that much closer to starting a rack. Please please PLEASE Behringer make a 104 hp AIO case like the nifycase. Midi din in/out USB midi a power supply stereo audio all built in!
Sick Demo Patch, top shelf!
Nice. There's also a really good emulation of this filter in VCV. Not free, but even cheaper than Behringer hardware! 😉
Patchdog good work 👏🏼
They did the Wasp justice as a synth, please make sure they do the same for the Oscar 🤞🏼
It’d be sacrilege to not give an awesome British classic the justice it deserves. (Chris Huggins was our Dave Smith)
A synth that, despite being championed by Billy Currie of Ultravox, didn't find the success it deserved.
Stereo guitar pedal with HP and LP filter from MS20 please.
snowball effect, second hand eurorack market is devastated :)))) happy I sold in time most of the modules, and now with those money I bought Behringer stuff :))))))))
And in 30 years the original stuff is worth 10x what it is now while behringer flooded market is worth pittance if it still works:’(((
@@Lazlo-os1pu I highly doubt humanity will have time for things like the synthesis side of Eurorack, but with the inevitable wars and the corrupt IT companies banking off them we might at least get to see the return of Eurorack subracks as a computing standard!
@@Lazlo-os1pu you are so 90s, I have B stuff for years with zero problems, and how the world evolves you'll use your original eurorack modules as door stopper :)))))
@@plutostube I think behringer stuff is great fun, and great for people wanting to get into synths for a lower budget.
When we’re talking about the market & long term value however, selling your boutique modules and replacing them with behringer probably isn’t the move long term value wise.
@@Lazlo-os1puHonestly I see discontinued pedals by Behringer on the used market for sometimes 10x their original price. I have a good deal of Behringer synthesizer gear and the majority of it feels quite solid. As solid as some more high end gear that I own.
When bcr32 🎅
I love my Wasp synth, and yes, you did get it spot on. Now, someone please look at the Mini VS and perhaps push out another update to get that closer to the OG, as all your other synths (I own 11 of your fantastic creations) are excellent. That one is the only one which isn't like the OG
me too, love the VS but want a real one not a mini
@@WaveRiderMusic I just want Behringer to fix the one they released so that it does in fact sound like a 4 voice version of the OG
Oh now this is a bit naughty again... I know Behringer make a Wasp but let's be honest, anyone into Eurorack knows about the Doepfer Wasp filter which has been around for ages and is a great module... I already have one so won't be getting this...
no thanks
nice! btw: i’m still waiting for an eurorack 303 (or td-3) version without the sequencer, just plain saw and pulse, cutoff, resonance, env mod, decay, accent. should be doable, or?...do you hear me? :)
Oh man I'd love a TD3 in their eurorack-compatible form factor (like the Model D, K2, Kobol Exp etc. where you can use it both standalone or as one big euro module)
It’s the sequencer that makes the 303 special 😀
You’re more likely to see the sequencer as a module 🤞
@@leftmono1016 sure thing! but i have lots of sequencing capabilities, also 303 style, but i just need a very small analog sound module with authentic 303 sound, this should be possible, right?
I have the Behringer WASP which has surprisingly been used more than the Crave which I bought at the same time, end of 2023. Always meant to get the doepfer filter for my eurorack. Kind of lame that you couldn’t have just left their inexpensive filter withiout competition! P.s. I also own the LM drum so don’t have a problem with recreating out of production models but this is a poor show!
This is great sounding👍 Come on Behringer - ES-9!!!
I'm confused lol.
Isn't this the same module that has been out a few years?.
I was pretty annoyed, that this has come out, but then it seems like it's the exact module I already own. Love this filter to bits. Nothing sounds like it.
Is this just a 'Introducing' video for the existing module or a v2 or something?
I see now. I must own the Doepfler one. I was sure it was Behringer. My set up is currently in storage. My bad. Glad to see this little gem getting put into the hands of more people
@@Tyborg82 But the Doepfer one is only £70 so not exactly out of anyone’s reach.
Sounds great!
So is the Behringer DAW still coming? Before 2048?
Yeah waiting....
great idea
The expencive modular market is crapping its self about now 🤣
doepfer is expensive to you?
So it’s digital
No, why would it be?
OMG all the crying about Doepfer.
meh. why behringer? doepfer has one. pick em up for 50 used. your great bringing back stuff from the tomb, or developing your own stuff. cloning wideley available clones. duh.
Please make eurorack modules of td-3 mo without the sequencer
Seriously, or a firmware option to modernise the sequencer like Elektron. It's awful.
There is a preset for this in Brains
The sequencer is what makes the 303 special. Without that, it’s just a very limited monosynth.
It sounds annoying already!
Love the wasp so much I bought 2
Wish there was an iOS/auv3 equivalent too
$49
Behringer is providing corrective counseling to the market forces that have been so imperfect. Allowing for absurdly overpriced modules & shill environments.
Good stuff.
I wouldn’t say that other manufacturers are overpriced, it’s just they are much smaller.
@ Do you work for a Eurorack or synth company?
sounds delicious 😻
Do this for the Pro-1 if you could?
❤❤❤
Guys, this is just lazy. Add at least some functionality
nice
@Behringer OooooOooooh! this would be fun to expand on the wasp deluxe too! Could you make a yellow/black Producer Series unit cloning from the Wasp, Jasper, and Mantis type features all in one? That could be neat! I own 2 Craves, 2 Edges, a Spice and Grind so Im good for the purchase or two! XD
would have been awesome to have a SEM style crossfade between hp/bp/lp on this. maybe a behringer SEM filter module next?
Check out Doepfer, they already have one
Behringer is stinging the game
where's the sting in the tail?
sure !"Introduction"!.. 🤣
