For a white straight 17 year old boy, it actually angers me bc I've been throught things a kid shouldn't, I was molested at a young aged, abused and hated by my family my entire life and it angers me to be told I don't have any problems or that I'm privileged bc I'm white, never had any opportunities in my life at all and my mom was struggling all her life putting all her money to make sure I has clothes on my back, she barely could keep her job bc of the people there and was only making making 7 to 8 dollars an hour, I hate to see my mother's and my own struggle be ignored bc I'm white
I agree with you. I never faced such things luckily enough but I have a neighbor who is also white who gets told by lots of his liberal friends that he is white so he never experienced hardship.

Sorry mate what you had to go through we all do. This happens and is to be lucky if you have colour as it’s far more worse. The reason they say that we first need to acknowledge white privilage it's because they can't control something that doesn't exist unless people believe it exists, so white privilage doesn't exist by her definition, if white's privilage is being treated normal like normal people are treated than that's not a privilage, is the blacks who are oppressed, not the whites who are privilaged.

Saying a certain ethnic group is privileged based on there skin color is pretty messed up and racist.
In my school there was a scholarship for cte classes that was a really big deal. I took welding 1&2, woodworking1-6, computer programming1 , auto mechanics1&2, and a few others along with lots of extra curricular. I worked to get this scholarship for a long time. I remember my priciple interviewing 10 students to pick who should get it and saying "you're definitely the most qualified but unfortunate we will be giving it to Manya (and Indian american girl) because it looks better for our school, I hope you understand". She had 1 cte class and it was photography which is debatably art. Similar thing happened to my friend with the writing scholarship. It was also done to another one of my friends but reverse she lost a dance scholarship to the only boy on the dance team. Worst part for me was the girl I lost to didn't need the money. Her parents bought her a Tesla and had a college fund set up for her. I had a single mom who could barley provide for me and my siblings. I worked part time while in highschool to save for college and worked really hard. I really needed the money. I remember wishing that I had been born colored or a woman or both so badly in that moment. I don't understand how making things easier for minorities like women in Cte or men in Dance fixes anything, it really just means dedicated people have to work harder to compete. Shouldn't we focus on helping them work harder and get better primary education and help knowing what to do for scholarships and specific careers instead of just lowering the bar?

To focus solely on race, gender, sex, and sexual orientation misses a large part of each individual's life and personal story/circumstances. For instance, this female is young and that's absolutely an advantage and privilege. She appears to be able bodied, which is another privilege. She's employed, yet another one. I'm going to guess she's also an American citizen, which is a huge advantage over billions of people in the world. Being smart or personable would be other privileges people might have as is coming from a loving and supportive family or network of friends. Being mentally healthy would be yet another privilege. Once you start to consider the individual and not groups (black women, Hispanic lesbians, Asian gay men, etc), you find each individual has different challenges and advantages and one form of privilege (male privilege for example) doesn't benefit all equally or at all.

Privilege comes in all different aspects of life. But in this inference we are speaking of this woman’s blackness since this video is about race generally. I believe white privilege shouldn’t make someone feel like it dismisses whatever hard work they have done or it dismisses the trauma they have endured in life. I took a college course back when I was at Texas Christian University where the professor defined "White Privilege" as not having more advantages in life, rather having fewer disadvantages/discriminations in life (so kind of opposite of what it sounds like). Essentially, in our country's history, White people (with few exceptions) have not faced the multiple generations oppression that most People Of Color (particularly African Americans) have faced, resulting in fewer disadvantages for them today. Sure, if you're a wealthy White person, you are better off than all average/poor people in America, but if you're a middle class White person, you still have better chances to succeed in life because you don't have the systemic disadvantages that African, Asian, Hispanic, and Native Americans at a similar social class level have. Finally, when a person of color does become successful in America, it is not because of "Reverse Discrimination" as some White Americans argue, rather it is because they have managed to overcome the disadvantages that they faced that many of their White counterparts didn't have to face.

In the world that I grew up in saying you have “white privilege” is racist. I am a woman of color and I grew up in poverty as a child, I used to live in a trailer as a child with 2 siblings but thankfully my single hardworking mom made something out of herself (without a college degree). Your saying that being white gives you an advantage to other races, is the definition of racism. In person I have never seen a black person be treated unfairly by the police (If I did I would stop it). If I see someone be racist to one another I would stop it and talk about it with both of them. If you see a black person didn’t get a job when you knew they were more qualified speak up to your boss about it. Even if you loose your job, at least you know you did the right thing. These are the type of things that you should be doing instead of just saying you have “white privilege” because you guys are just saying that to get acceptance and or clout.
