Discover the dream home of 9-time Freediving World Champion, Yasemin Dalkilic as she takes us to the Aquarius habitat, the world's oldest underwater laboratory. Aquarius has been home to 115 missions where Aquanauts, living and working from Aquarius, have made important scientific discoveries, but regardless, after 26 years of service, Aquarius is being closed down, a sad reminder that ocean conservation is not a top priority in today's world.
Join Yasemin as she pays Aquarius one of its last visits and experience this amazing structure first hand!

Wow! Thank you for sharing that amazing experience, I felt at home watching this video because I often dive the keys and it's a privilege for someone to really expose it's beauty like this. Great job!
Beautifully shot and narrated piece. Thank you for sharing this with the rest of us.
This was Beautiful…yet so sad.

Absolutely poetic! 😊 I 💙 Aquarius!
love this video man! I am just getting into the world of free diving and its amazing
I just read the book deep, by James nestor... it talks all about Aquarius, Everybody! Aquarius is still functioning under the international university of Florida, it was negotiated and is functioning as from September 2013, if you don't believe me look it up. Please leave a like for this useful information (this video is outdated)
Love your narration and the nurse shark! Subbed!
Well done Yas thanks for sharing the beautiful underwater :) xoxo
Loved this place !! it's amazing :((
AMAZING!
This is a breathtakingly beautiful production Yasemin. Thank you so much. Your love of our creation is like a breath of fresh air, life giving! My heart is troubled however, at the idea that this structure would be disassembled after being there so long as to allow so many life forms to call it home. It would be a crime to take it away now. Do I understand that the underwater center may well be staying put? Please tell me it is so. I will Google for info on it now too.
Love your videos.
Great video Mate!
Just Wonderful!!! a piece of dream world in reality
these videos always make me hold my breath looool
Yasemin DALKILIÇ videolarının çoğunu izledim enfes doğrusu tebrikler bu çekimler için. Bu haftasonu serbest dalış eğitimi alacağım doğrusu bu dünyayı keşfetme arzumu daha artırdın. Sevgiler

Someone needs to build a new Aquarius, free to use for anyone!!
this is such a cool and sweet video :-)
Seems that it's true! What wonderful news! Seems that all the efforts that the fans of Aquarius have put has paid off finally.
wow, you left me stunned with your video... a question, what Brand and model are your fins?
Good to know! It was such a cool video and then it takes that slightly depressing turn, just wanted the viewers to know that there is still hope! Ill be sure to let Jim see this video, in case he hasn't already!
Thanks for your nice words. And yes I had added this great news about 3 months ago but understandable some comments stay unnoticed sometimes. The good news will make it to the longer version of the documentary.
How much can you stay under water without air?
A bit over 6 minutes if I don't move. But the more i move the more oxygen I consume and less it becomes. Usually my dives are about 2:30 - 3 minutes.
theamazingdives well done
***** don't do what david blaine says very bad, a good site is freediverhd here on youtube he will show you how to breath up right
skimen ruslan If you are talking about in general...until your body runs out of oxygen, it really depends on what you are doing
The rest of ur life
Amazing video. I'm thinking of getting into freediving, but not that easy when you live in central London. :)
I am really going to miss Aquarius, I live in the Caribbean, where Teck Tight used to be. I have dived there multiple times, and I miss what used to be there, I cant imagine loosing Aquarius.
cool vid thanks for that..
awesome
It´s a very funny video, I like your freediving style. I'm waiting for the next. Soon
Wow, I had no idea NOAA had shut this down. My marine bio teacher had the opportunity to conduct research in Aquarius.
beautyful
amazing girl
when i came across somehow and started watching the video i said " what a familiar accent type she has.she does not sound an american or european" with my inner voice. then i read the description, and i noticed that we are form the same country :=)
really attractive documentry.
Wow amazing colours of coral and fish!
Like the Orange wetsuit what brand?
Yes, with no weight to equalize bouyancy, you have to work harder to stay down...in relatively shallow water! Go deep enough and as air is squeezed and compressed, you sink quite fast!! Same with tanks!!
From the surface. When you are diving having taken the breath on the surface, you don't get the bends (except some extreme depth time scenarios). Bends is a much bigger risk when you breathe compressed air.
Awesome video! But i should make a slight correction. When this video was made the fate of the Aquarius had been decided. But thanks to other marine life enthusiasts and researchers who decided this magnificent piece of equipment could not be decommissioned, it is still in use! Dr. Jim Fourqurean of Florida International University has bought the Aquarius and taken it under his wing. It will stay in use for the foreseeable future!
Wow amazing, i am only a apnea beginner, wish i could hold my breath half as Long as you can :-) How do you make this ;-) MASTERPIECE
this makes me want to rewatch "the abyss" :)
Have you heard of Mission 31? At least until that operation is done it wont be shutting down, and maybe there will be enough interest and credible data for the scientific community to warrant keeping it open. Lets hope, love to see footage from this place.
i do free diving too .... to hold ur breath longer u have to train ... such as breathing in with ur mouth for 10 sec and breath out for 5 sec with nose .. keep doing that and try to breath in to ur stomach , u have to breath in lots of oxygen as much as u can
wow...
This is great, considering the pressure on your body at that depth. Any ideas on how to equalize the pressure in and out of your ears?
You just put your fingers on your nose and then blow through your nose.
Think I might build one of these and establish a residence on the bottom of the ocean. Might be cool to have an underwater city. Or maybe an underwater hotel
Tebrikler...
I am yung seok choe. Who live in korean and i like your video also i love sea. So i hope you and your cowork be health when dive and when you have a time please visit jeju in korea. There is also good place for dive. Take care allways
6:30 when I was doing records, now that I'm only having fun, not bothering trying anymore :)
lol. enjoyed the whole "living" in the ocean thing
PrestigeShots you don't make decompression stops on freedives, as you don't inhale more air at depth. Use same breathe
what advise and tips would you give a person starting out freediving
wow amazing i plan on studying marine biology do you think this could take me to do some amazing divings like you ?
Thanks had no idea... A bit sad
Actually its down down yet ( as of Jan 7, 2013). They are in the process of taking it apart but it still is in the state that you see it in the film. Hopefull some rich person, company or authority would revert this before its too late.
my life, my sports -----> Free Diving. i learned to dive in the island of Cebu in the Philippines some Pearl Divers can go deep 100 feet with no oxygen. the Whistle Man the locals call him. he whistles when he catches his breath after a deep dive.
j
Lots of training and practice...
Good
Funny*, interesting, beautiful. In one word : Perfect !
* I like the way you use "clichés" about girls, at the beginning.
Subscribed.
i used to do this before very thrilling sport
Do you freedive into the air tanks as well(or observation tanks, that you swim under)? If so wouldn't you need decostop on the way up again?
Near Tavernier. Comes out on google earth under Aquarius Habitat.
is there any film from inside the Aquarius, wile a storm passes it buy ? that must be totally insane
How can we see the longer version of the documentary? Where and when?
I read an article about free diving so my SAT class! Was it difficult to film this video? Are you just holding your breath with no equipment?
Ne diyecegimi bilemiyorum. Çok güzel bir an yaşadım seyrederken . Ama sonunda böyle bir yerin olmaması düşüncesi çok üzücü.
such a wonderful world for the aqua marine life who lives there. but i feel sad after telling that it was already closed. why?
Are you free diving from the surface or from the station? Would you get the bends if you went to the surface on breath hold?
very nice video. what depth is this? it does not seem deep, my guess is 10-15meters.
quanto tempo você fica de baixo da água???????
Cool and is wehere Chris Hdfield trained by anychance? Thanks!
As of Jan. 20, 2013, an article reads: "Thanks to the backlash from scientists and a campaign led by South Florida political leaders...will allow FIU to continue monitoring and maintaining Aquarius Reef Base for NOAA in 2013. During this time, they will create a new business model to better fund Aquarius in the future. The new model will rely on other government agencies, as well as private groups and universities, explained Jim Fourqurean who will be overseeing activities at Aquarius Reef Base"
