Brings back memories. I was raised on a small dairy farm in western Ohio. Do your cows always go to the same spot in the milk house? Ours did. They all had names and would come when Dad called them from the pasture. Dairy farmers must be the most dedicated of all. Cows need you twice a day, every day, rain or shine.

I was milking cows 40 years ago. My memory of milking on a hot humid night, the cow would find the crappiest wettest place to lay. They came into the barn and the flies were biting, you would get rewarded with a good old wet tail across your face! Fun times milking cows on hot summer days! At least your cows have a nice green dry pasture to lay in.

Thanks so much!! I am a former Dairyman from Petaluma, Ca!! You folks do a Beautiful job with your Cows!! I am very impressed!! Everything here in the West is geared for large scale production!! I guess that’s ok in certain situations, but my experience has taught me that bigger isn’t always better!! I absolutely love your operation and particular attention to detail!! You spoke of Somatic Cells in the Double Digits, Mine averaged 49,000 each and every month, because of paying attention to detail!! I’m so sorry to hear of good Dairy Folks losing their Dairies because they can no longer compete against the larger concerns!! Your videos may well prove to the public that it is safer and better to purchase Dairy Products from smaller Family owned Dairies like you Folks!! I really applauded your efforts, and hope to become better acquainted with you in the future!! Thanks again, Vic Chiapetta!!

I admire your family's dedication to milking cows and keeping things low-key in the dairy barn. Calm animals are light-years easier to handle on a daily basis.

The spring flush of milk...June Dairy Days... Maybe a video of your milk pickup, milk plant delivery and processing into those wonderful high quality products we all enjoy?...Visiting other farms and sharing their stories could be something of interest. We live in the driftless area on the edge of cranberry country and the term "God's County" readily applies as does yours. This time of the years is something special to be enjoyed and shared. Another thing, the farm ladies do not get enough credit in farming operations. I know that all that is done on ours is a TEAM effort similar to yours....
Have to comment about your statement on pasture...so many believe that cattle/beef take away land that could be growing crops. We have many acres that could/will never be farmed, but out beef cows make very efficient use as your dairy cows. There are so many misbeliefs' perpetuated by competing interests about Agriculture that need to be corrected. Cow flatulent/methane gets a lot of negative press but the carbon sequester in a hay/corn/bean field does not. These are issues that need to be addressed/corrected for all! Thanks for all the knowledge/enjoyment....the Alps were super!!!!

I drove truck for nearly 40 years and I always liked going through your neck of the woods in summer. Those pretty green rolling hills dotted with little farms off in the distance was a pretty picture.

Ineresting, maybe even fascinating. Milking cows put me through the UW almost 50 years ago. Never worked from between the back legs - always the side. Would put my shoulder/head kinda in front of the leg joint. This reduced the windup force the cow could generate if she tried to kick. Later on I added beef cows to the operation. The beef cow kicks completely different than the Holstein. The Holstein will swing the leg out with a relatively slow windup, always saw it coming. The beef cow - you never saw it coming and would end up laying on the ground looking up wondering what happened. (And yeaaah, da bull did S... ) 🤩

So I'm a city slicker as you may say, never been on a farm in my life (I can see the farmers who watch your videos rolling their eyes as I speak) but I came across some of these videos a couple weeks ago, started watching and find them very interesting. So here go a few dumb questions, Like how much milk do you typically get from all the cows you milk in a day? How often do you milk your cows? I assume you sell the milk to some kind of milk dairy plant, how much profit do you get for the milk you sell. (you don't have to give an exact amount that would be a rude question but maybe a ball park figure) As I said I've never been on a farm or done this type of work,, a few of these type of videos pop up in my suggestions after watching a few I started watching not only your channel but a few others as well and well they got me kinda hooked. Lastly all I can say Mad Respect to you and your family and all the other farmers that do this kind of hard work and the hours you all put in to farm.

Neat to hear your dad calling "come boss" or "coboss". I remember calling the cows in from the pasture as a kid. The youtube guy from New York state who raises pasture feed Dexter beef calls them with "Come on Cows", it just doesn't sound right. Great to see a small family farm in operation. In southeast WI where I grew up the township only has 3 farms still milking cows, used to be you could see 8 - 10 family farms from one hilltop. From the same hill now you can see 1 farm and half the barns have fallen down or been cleared away.

I remember my dad (happy father's day) cleaning up after milking. He would pull that strainer sock out of the pipeline and throw it right in the middle of a pile of wet manure he'd just scraped out of the parlour. It didn't matter to the barn cats. They'd fight each other over who got to claim the yogurt mastitus covered prize to eat. One day i came out into the barn and heard the worst caterwalling you ever heard "Meo-o-w, Ye-o--ow, Ow!" It was one of the barn cats that had swallowed one of those strainer socks whole and was desperately trying to pass it out his rear end. He was only halfway successful so i stepped on the half that was already out. With one final "Yeow!" it leaped forward and scampered away leaving the sock under my foot.
