Had mine since the 80,s had a commanders hatch drop on it caught it in the traverse a few times used in snow and desert, still going strong, use it today for outdoor stuff still dont leak
Nice video, popped up on my recommended a couple of days ago, good timing. I received 2 x 58 bottles, mugs, and pouches over the weekend from Latvia. My issue was one of the seals was missing so I ended up going to Home Depot (Canada) plumbing area today and found an O ring that fit it and no dripping after putting water in the bottle. They are original Osprey, 2001 looks newer than the 2010 bottle lol.
Well done. Most people wouldn't know the difference and wouldn't know the importance of that difference! Do bear in mind that Osprey are only the current manufacturer. There are at least 3x other manufacturers who made the things for the military and to the EXACT specification. Point to note is that genuine issue W/Bs are *NOT* always marked "Osprey", especially if they're older. Another point is that older (1971) Osprey mugs don't fit properly on later (1990) Osprey W/Bs... (I'll make a video on this, one day, hopefully soon) The original W/Bs were GREEN, made by the same company (or subsidiary) that later made "Action Man"! Since the late 1980s, I've been using my issued 1965 dated green one made by "F&G" - but with the S10 cap (which the storeman fitted without my knowledge, he binning my rare green cap). The current GSR cap also fits perfectly well. The earlier washers deteriorate over time so, for use, it's well worth investing in a s10 or GSR cap, if you have an older W/B. I'm showing my age, I know. But the point being made in this video cannot be emphasised enough: buy good quality kit and it can last you a lifetime. I've 2x '58 W/Bs that I use regularly: one's the green one mentioned above (almost daily), the other is a 1972 dated Osprey made W/B that I used in cadets from 1979 well into military service and to the present day...
Not all bcb osprey bottles have the drinking tube conector for the s6 or s8 gsr. There are knock offs, if genuine look for broat arrow mark as on all mod kit and nato pattern numbers.
Hi! How do you clean the inside of your osprey bottle? Mine has a lot of gunk and brown residue inside. I tried soap and water but it just isn't enough. Would it be okay to pour hot water inside just to "purify" it? Thanks for the tip.
Could you try putting some sodium hydroxide inside with water, then wash it very very thoroughly afterwards. We use Sodium hydroxide at work to clean seriously dirty/greasy items.
My replica is green and suffers the same cap issue and is smaller in bottle and cup. My original has dents, scratches telling all sorts of stories and has a sticky substance on it I couldn't clean off with steel wool... so I wrapped it in electrical tape, problem solved. The replica cost me $14.95, the real one, with a pouch was $29.95. I'll give the replica to my daughter for her camping kit.
Weaponsandstuff93 they usually give cadets the cheap stuff because we aren’t supposed to have the same kit as the army so we get issued cheap stuff like cadet helmets which are supposed to be mk 7 helmets that are safe for young teenagers or kids by being very light weight and having safety points but they make it even easier to break so they will spend more money on replacing stuff than if they got the real stuff which they can get surplus for cheap enough
Another example is that they bought a load of radios designed for cadets to use and then they found out that they started electrocuting cadets when it rained
In theory no as they are NATO threaded, but a lot of people have reported success with them so I don't really know, I've never tested it myself however.
@@andrewjohnston4127 re: non fit, are you referring to the steel cooking cup that can go under the canteen or the plastic cup the goes over the canteen? I'm assuming you're talking about the plastic cup that goes over the canteen right?
@@andrewjohnston4127 ok, so the crusader cup is the steel cup. Will the USGI Molle cover the canteen, or does it have to be uncovered with the V strap over it? Thanks again
Weirdly it's British, you know because I mentioned that a few times and it's in the description, cheap one is probably made in China though, and it's a canteen, it holds water.
Mine has a CAT number on it but does attach to the S10 also those little etchings near the top are thinner like your Osprey version, if it is a Pattern 58 this one is at least well made, plastic doesn't dent and the lid actually has gasmask attachment capabilities
a nice replica i see. also im about to order a mask (black, covers my whole face). i see them all the time especially for elite soldiers (SWAT). does it have any advantage or is just for good look.
who would have thought that it is so hard to make a bottle cap that doesn't leak
Yeah washers are hard for manufacturers to understand apparently.

Yes, you are right abut the capacity difference. The 'real' Osprey bottle is a 2 pint (2x 568ml) capacity for 1136ml.

Where can I get the rubber seal for the cap?

Nice vid has it started to snow in your area yet? I'm from Essex and it's being snowing for about half an hour
It snowed for an hour or two and then rained so the snow is gone.
I don’t think yours have it but a lot of osprey bottles will have a rectangle in the plastic with the year of production and OSPREY inside it
The newer ones yes, not the older ones.
I’ve been issued the cheap ones in cadets and they do leak a lot and they do break easily
So they issue the cheap ones that can't use the proper lids? Seems a pretty stupid thing to do.

Another dumb question but would Isreil filters work on russian/ warsaw pact mask if i cant get FP-5 and or Modern polish filters
In theory no as they are NATO threaded, but a lot of people have reported success with them so I don't really know, I've never tested it myself however.
Well theres a video idea talking about the subject XD lol
see, i live in texas, so i dont know if ill find it... maybe on ebay, but im saving to get the pathfinder cook sset
Nice video
Thanks.
You should do a M74 review
The Romanian mask? I've already done a video on the Drager M65.
Will the Osprey 58 canteen fit into a USGI Molle Canteen pouch? What about with the steel cup? Thanks
The bottle will fit but not with the cup,it's too tight.i have one of them.

If there was a gas cloud in the room you were in would you put a gp5 with old filter or risk running to the other side of your house to get an s10?
put on the gp5 and run to the other side of the house
If there is a cloud of gas, it may be too late...
Well I have my CT12 with sealed filters in my room anyway.
what is that bottle for besides holding water
and what country is it for

Weaponsandstuff93 oh okay I'm used to the US canteen and I thought it would be for holding anti chemical stuff
P's I'm stupid
Can you do video on finnish plastex canteen?
The one my M98 uses? At some point sure.
I really wish ebay sellers showed the cap, I really want one for my S10
Yeah lots of the bottles are the crappy reproduction models.

10-20 Euros I imagine.

It's not a nice replica, did you bother watching the video.
Weaponsandstuff93 i watched it.I personally like it tho. i like these types of stuff
Weaponsandstuff93 the real one is of course better.
I have both and the original is the best the cheap one cracked in 1 month
Jesus, that's atrocious
I've had people defending them in the comments for some reason.
I made the mistake of buying a shit replica... Leaks every single time it's filled. The lid doesn't screw on right...
Yeah I hate that it's not a standard NATO thread therefore not working with any NATO bottlecaps.
They are not 'canteens' they are water bottles.
