Wow, that is a great technique - never saw that before - love how it gets the ink onto the embossing folder for a nice smooth background. Love the bonus print from the gel plate too.
Thanks Cindy, I’m so glad you liked it.
Wow! Fantastic technique. I love the softness you get by using the gel plate. Never thought to put the embossing folder on the gel plate before. Seriously amazing!! So glad you shared this, thank you.
Thanks so very much!
My resolution this year was to use both my Gelli plate AND my embossing folders more - and here you have them both combined. Genius! Thank you
Oh isn’t that a great coincidence! Thanks for letting me know.
Thanks for the reminder to use ink and embossing folders together. So pretty!
It’s always fun! Thanks for watching and commenting!
These are beautiful ideas! The possibilities with gelli plates are endless! Thank you for the new techniques❤
Thanks for watching and the nice comment!
Really loving the simplicity of this and how effective it is! I don't use my Gelli Plate enough, so this looks like a perfect way to quickly get results without using paint. Thank you
Thank you for watching and commenting Christine. I hope you like the results!
What a fun technique! I never would have thought to go from gel press to embossing folder!
Thank you Dorothy. It’s always fun to try new ways to use the supplies.
What a great technique! I never thought much of jelly plates, the results always seemed messy and not particularly great. But wow! This is one worth trying for sure. The colors happen to be among my favorites. Thanks again for another valuable lesson. Hugs to you 💜
Thanks so much Claire! I’m with you, this technique is what I like to use for backgrounds, although the other ones look like fun to make, not really me. I appreciate your kind comments!
WOW, so beautiful, I have gotta use my gel plates more. Thanks so much for all your wonderful techniques❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Peggy! I appreciate your kindness.
Great way to add color to your embossing folders.
Thanks for watching!
I have yet to open my gel plate I was given years ago. This looks like something I can do, so a good reason to get it out. I have that same big brayer--very old and still works great. Thanks for the inspiration!
I haven’t used the gel plate with paint very much, but using it with Distress oxides to ink blend easily is more for me. Use quick short strokes with the brayer to avoid taking off too much ink off the gel plate.
The folders are beautiful, the blending is really good. Thanks. ❤🇦🇺
Thank you Jennifer!
Those are all beautiful! I never thought about using two brayers, that's a very helpful tip!
I’m so glad! Thank you!
You have a new follower. Love the colors behind the embossing without hand painting. Gorgeous!
Thank you for subscribing! I’m so glad you liked it.
Wow! Awesome way to get color on the e.f.! And you get 2 for 1 inking…cool! Thanks for sharing. ❤New IG and UA-cam follower.😊
Thank you! I. So glad you liked it. There’s also the leftover ink on the brayer you could put on a 3rd piece.
This is brilliant! I’ve never seen this done before.
Thanks! I’ve seen ink blending on the gel plate and got the idea to try it with an embossing folder.
Thanks for your video. Absolutely stunning cards and second image.
I’m so glad you liked it. Thanks so much for letting me know.
Love this. And the reverse image too!! Great job!

Wonderful! Thank you!
Very pretty cards, thank you!❤
Thank you so much!
I have a jelly plate and have not used it yet. The cards are beautiful and I especially like that Altenew folder which I have so I'll have to try this technique.
Oh great, thanks! Nobody warned me of this so I’m not sure if it’s common but the 1st time I used my gel plate the cardstock got stuck a bit, it was so sticky.
Love this!! So quick and beautiful!
Thank you! I’m so glad.
WOW! What a beautiful result!

Thank you for watching and commenting!
thats amazing, i tried colouring backgrounds to get the same effect but looks terrible. will have to get my gel plate out and try that. Love it.
Blending is hard. I think oxides are easiest to blend even easier with this method.
gorgious, great idea, thx so much
Thank you for watching and commenting. I’m so glad you liked it!
Beautiful nola from Australia
Thank you Nola!
I'm going to try this! I don't use my plate as much as I could, so this is a good way to get back into it.
The second pattern you made, that you said you probably wouldn't use as a card? It would make a lovely background for something more definite, or to cut into edging strips.
Thank you!
I’m so glad. For me, i need a creative jumpstart every now and then. Using the gel plate or media I haven’t used in a while helps me. You’re right, I’ll challenge myself to use that 2nd pattern I made. (If I can find it.) Thanks so much.
Brilliant!
Thanks so much Luann!
Hi Susan, thank you for your fab video. I have a question, have you sprayed your card with water before embossing at all? If so does it make a difference to the outcome? As when I use 3D embossing folders i usually water spray it before embossing so the card doesn’t crack. Kind regards Tracey from the UK 🇬🇧 ❤
Thank you Tracey. Yes I do spray it sometimes. I’ve rarely had a problem with cracking paper, or if there is I didn’t notice it. For this, I didn’t spray it because any water drops would leave marks in the Distress oxide ink. Also, I used 65 lb cardstock here, pretty lightweight. I’ve seen more cracking with heavy cardstock. Misting the paper, especially with heavier cardstock and 3D folders does make a difference, you’ll see greater detail. But I’m not sure if I send the card to someone they’ll notice it. If you haven’t watched Yana Smakula’s video on this subject, I’d recommend it:) it’s good.
Cool!
Thanks Nancy!
These are absolutely beautiful. I'd be interested to see the difference between the technique you used and brayering onto paper and running that through the folder. I wonder if it looks significantly different? Either way, these are lovely.
I have done that, my experience is there’s more streaks, the ink doesn’t blend as well and uneven application.. But when I use the gel plate I like to use a thinner paper, 65 lb, so I’m not sure how it looks with a better paper. If I’m going direct to paper I like using blending brushes.
Can this technique be used with ink pads instead of distress inks?
I only have Distress Oxides and Distress inks. Even between these 2 I feel like it blends better with he oxides. But it’s worth a try!
Are you using watercolor paper?
No; 65 lb cardstock.
What a great idea! Thank you!
