For me personally, my biggest fear was that it was gonna be annoying and woke, and it wasn't, and I was like, 'Yes, this is great, it's so well written,' like it feels real. /s
The sene of Peter talking to the pizza store owner got me that showed me that even if the show isn’t great that they at the least understand what it means to be spider-man
Personally, i think the show has a strong start! If disney turns lonnie into tombstone later on it'll be difficult battle for peter emotionally, like in insomniac's Spider-Man.
I'm sorry, but just a nitpick. Traditional "Disney" isn't making the show. It is made by Marvel Animation which is a subsidiary of Marvel Studios and is ran by Brad Winderbaum.
It’s so nice to have an old school intro sequence again after the last few Marvel animated shows ditching them for whatever reason. Gives the show its own identity and makes it stand out among the rest.
@@rhetiq9989 Thanks for the clarification. Yeah starting with What If all the animated shows have had intros. Which would be What If, Spidey and his Amazing Friends, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, X-Men 97, and now YFNSM.
I too shared a lot of the same opinions as you when it came to this show. Was very cautiously optimistic but after watching the first two episodes yesterday (watched it with my mom lmao), I really enjoyed what I saw! It was a really fresh take and wasn't the cringe inducing mess I EXPECTED it to be. Plus the intro song is a friggin love letter to spider-man fans. I really hope it continues to be good!
I feel like that this show is giving me some new Ultimate Spider-Man comic vibes of it being similar to a mainline universe but at some point Peter's origin story went through a different way and now things are very different to the usual universe, but still feels like Spider-Man stories, and you can't predict what's going to happen next and that keeps me waiting anxiously for the next chapter of the story.
Why I love the show so far: 1. The relationship between Peter and Aunt May is perfectly established within only 4 minutes. 2. The two of them are not afraid to say “Uncle Ben” to indicate that the guy played a significant part of their lives; unlike a certain iron man jr. We once knew. 3. The show has Spidey actually in a friendly neighborhood kind of handle that we rarely have seen. 4. The side characters are actually written out and loved. They are not just side pieces that are there for usage of dumb jokes like how side characters in the MCU Spider-Man film was. 5. The supporting hero characters are awesome. 6. Lonnie IS NOT THE JOCK STEREOTYPE!!!! That was such a breath of fresh air to see that a jock is so much more. 7. Whatever is goin fin with Lonnie, I can’t help but feel sorry for him. He seems like a great kid and appear to be going through a tough thing. I don’t know if he is really putting on a positive face to not let his problems show or if he really such a kind kid. His character has really had me intrigued about him so far. 8. This show is already doing things way better than the Mcu Spider-Man did. (I am not a fan of the race and gender swaps though.)
These are new interpretations of the characters, characters whose race and gender have never been a part of their identity. The Green Goblin isn't a great character because he's white, he's a great character because he's well-written. If that's accomplished, who cares?
I honestly think MCU Spider-Man handled Ben better (not that well though, MCU Spider-Man, while I will still MCU Spider-Man and it's movies, despite some of my issues with them, including in portrayals. They handled Uncle Ben was not good). Mainly because Uncle Ben seemed to die before Peter even got his powers, and it maybe (we don't know for sure though) even wasn't partially Peter's fault (i.e. letting the thief go, because Peter was trying to make money with his powers, and felt stiffed by them, so he didn't help. Has this Peter even showed some of Peter's more interesting flaws and traits. Like his anger, or stuff like this? Maybe they will in the future, but ahhhhh. Currently, not super happy with how Peter is being portrayed in this new show). MCU Spider-Man at least had that talk with Peter and Iron-Man about Uncle Ben. And at least seemed to have Ben's death be after Peter got his powers (can't remember if Peter could have done more, but couldn't though). Again, not saying MCU Spider-Man did Ben well. It didn't really. But I don't really think this show is doing Uncle Ben all that well either. At least for now.
The art style of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man reminds me of the _The Adventures of Tintin_ comics if it was merged with the classic Marvel comics from the Steve Ditko era, which I do like it.
Three interesting things I love about Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man: 1. The animation drawn in the art of Romita Jr's artwork. 2. Peter Parker losing Uncle Ben before being bit by the Spider 3. Lonnie Lincoln being his classmate.
I do believe in CGI for Spider-Man. As much as it's controversial it's much easier to do action well for cheap for TV, but I'm glad they didnt mess up the drama.
I just hope the classic suit isn't left to be revealed until the last episode, or at least have them show Peter working on it as the show progresses towards the finale
This might be an out of left field comparison, but this feels a lot like what an “Absolute Spider-Man” could be like, in the same vain as DC’s Absolute universe. Think about the change in Peter’s origin. Not the Spider coming from Doctor Strange’s portal, but rather Uncle Ben’s role. I was originally VERY opposed to having Uncle Ben die BEFORE Peter gets his powers. Spider-Man is usually fundamentally created by the guilt over Peter’s selfish actions that cause Uncle Ben’s death, and taking that away felt very strange and unnecessary. Peter committing to such a difficult lifestyle as Spider-Man for sheer love of the game is an interesting change that shakes up the formula in an intriguing way. I’m very concerned about this change still, but I think they can deliver a good Spider-Man story by taking away a core tenant of his character, in the same way Absolute Batman is doing.

Yooo had to watch your review. I’ve skipped everyone else and I’m not watching the show until every episode is out. But after your feelings on Spectacular and hard work animating Spider-Man in various projects, I gotta know what you think.
I feel like we all watched the first episode and went “Damn they got me didn’t they” cause I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed that first ep. Hopefully the rest is as good or better
I'm loving the series so far! The only gripes I have are the spider being from another dimension instead of being radioactive/genetically altered from a lab and Peter carrying a tank, it shouldn't bother me, but I always keep asking to myself, "Since when did Peter ever need tanks and tubes to store web fluid? Isn't that what the web cartridges from his belt and web shooters are for?" I totally respect them wanted to be different, but wouldn't that just make him more vulnerable during battles? As it was shown in the comic version when he was fighting the Enforcers. But all and all, I enjoy this version, the animation feels like an improvement from the 2017 series, especially the swinging scenes with the great music to go with it. And the characters are surprisingly good, especially Norman Osborn. This show definitely felt like 60s, Spectacular, MTV and MCU all into one. So can't wait for more!
I actually enjoy that his costume currently requires the tank for the web shooters. It shows that he has a long way to go, and he's not the perfect Spider-Man yet. His tech works, but it still looks like a high school kid made it.
Honestly it's just good to have a good Spider-man show again. Honestly this and X-men 97 does give me hope for the future of Marvel animated shows after being in a rut for years.
I love what we've gotten so far but I can see this being a divisive Spider-Man show because of all the deviations and art choices. So far I'm cool with all the changes barring the Future Foundation suit being an Oscorp thing and the show shows a lot of promise. I enjoyed myself a lot and I'm keen on what comes next
Ive seen a lot of different opinions of this show, a lot of people saying its bad, mid or fantastic. I think its pretty good im enjoying it so far. Im interested to see what peter goes through in this show
Every new incarnation of Peter/Spidey just slips further and further away from the actual character. And the obsession with his very brief overlap of highschool life and learning to be a hero has been beaten to death more than once. This not a good representation of the character at all, but that seems to be common with Spidey properties as of late
OOOH WE BACK! I enjoyed the first two episodes of this show quite a lot. The animation is still growing on me, and by now I’m pretty sick of the “apologetic deferential uwu bean” characterization that’s been popular for Peter Parker, but that aside this is the best Spidey cartoon we’ve had for a hot minute.
I think the only issue i have with the visuals is that when characters are talking the faces do not look good, they look very odd. I think it is because it is mimicing a comic book style so much, and comic books don't move and thats normally fine, but subtle facial movements really push this art style to a degree I don't think works.
What I really wonder is who his canon event will be, I feel like it’s going to be someone like MJ or Gwen Stacy I don’t think they will kill off Aunt May
I’ve been thinking about your reactions to this series when it came out and honestly my only exposure to Spider-Man cartoons was the MTV series. I still remembered when everyone thought Pearl and Lonnie were race swapped MJ/Liz Allen and Flash Thompson which I’m glad it wasn’t plus it was very refreshing. I’m glad this is doing better than expected but man 2 episodes ain’t enough even if it is a taste for what we will expect. I can’t wait to rewatch this once we have the next 3 episodes out with friends.
I can tolerate the animation but I would’ve had episode one a direct lift from amazing fantasy 15, next episode he meets the FF and eventually bumps into chameleon, episode 3 he meets vulture, 4 doc ock and so on… I would’ve made Ditko smile from heaven if I produced this cartoon…
Sometimes trailers aren't always the best thing to trust, so I was kinda hesitant on this new show and was pleasantly surprised to find out it wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be. I do hope for the best for the show to get better over time and isn't cut short. It's not gonna be for everyone but that's okay not every show is going to be for everyone's liking.
Can you please discuss ultimate spider-man? I know most people hate on it but it was my childhood and it helped introduce me to the bigger world of Marvel as a whole 🙏🙏
I'm not quite sold on it yet, but I'm willing to see where it goes. Strap in for a big rant. It's certainly an improvement over the past couple Spidey series in some ways, but I still feel like there are a lot of plot conveniences and things that just don't rlly sit right with me. For one, I think it's strange to change Pete's supporting cast so drastically. Pearl is Pete's high school crush who calls him "Petey," you'd think it'd be Liz Allen. Nico is the introverted friend of Peter, you'd think it would be Gwen. Lonnie is the kind jock pal of Peter, you'd think it would be Randy. But instead, all his supporting cast are changed from being ordinary people to being potential super-people, allies or enemies for Peter. I just think that was a strange choice that takes away that ordinary, civilian element to Peter's world if you know where these characters will likely end up. And when I say plot conveniences, I really mean that it feels like things are going way too well for Peter. Sure, he struggles a bit at Oscorp, but he's doing well in school where everyone seems to like him. I don't need Peter to be the one kid in the entire school that everyone just treats like garbage, but I feel like Pete being an outcast and struggling to socialize IS a pretty important part of the character that's missing here. And the reason for that is something that the MCU has been sorely missing imo: there's no separation between Peter and Spider-Man. Spider-Man is and always has been Pete's power fantasy. When he puts on that costume, he gains confidence and feels powerful, because he gets to escape his life as Puny Parker. In school, he is powerless. Only one or two ppl actually like him and want to be his friend, the rest either pick on him because he's weak, or just forget he even exists. We don't get that here. Here, Peter is pretty well-liked by everyone, he's just clumsy. As Spider-Man, he's quippy for sure, but still ultimately feels like an awkward, clumsy teenager. And he was approached by NORMAN OSBORN who PERSONALLY visited his apartment to offer him the Oscorp internship. I know they're trying to draw parallels between Tony's visit to their apartment in the MCU, but Tony was there almost as an act of desperation because he knew a superhero battle was coming and he wanted another loyal follower on his side. It made sense for one of the richest and most successful people in the city to just show up at some kid's apartment in Queens. But with Norman, it doesn't make as much sense to me. Why didn't he just send someone in to reach out to Peter? Why was this one kid *so* important to add to their program that he had to personally show up?? He HAS to know Pete's secret from the start, right? Because otherwise Norman showing up personally to offer him this position feels like the kind of thing that Peter would DAYDREAM about, not that it would actually happen. He'd WISH he could join in on a group chanting his name in the halls, he'd WISH that some important figure would just waltz right into his home and offer him the position of a lifetime. It's all feeling too good to be true, and prevents him from really feeling like an "underdog." Oh and the fact that Osborn will apparently be giving him the Future Foundation suit????? That bugs me. As a hardcore Fantastic Four fan, that really bugs me. So like I said, I'm not quite sold on it yet, but I don't hate it. It's cute, I like that they show Lonnie's side of things a bit and I hope we get more depth from the characters outside of Pete's POV, and I appreciate that there is potential with what they've set up. But so far this is all feeling less like "a new, fresh take on Spider-Man" and more like "Wattpad Spider-Man fanfiction" to me. We'll see tho, I'm giving it a chance.
I really enjoyed the first 2 episodes, really fun! It’s wild to me how some viewers won’t support it or like it at all because it’s not tied to the MCU…. Neither was “The Spectacular Spiderman” and I can go back and enjoy watching that show as well. Crazy takes.
My only nitpick so far... IS Peter Parker. As Spider-Man, he has this "i don't take you seriously" and "I don't have much time for this" attitude that i just dig. But peter. I really pray that they mature this kid to be like his spidey side. Confident, snarky, witty, and most definitely have an edge. Those that try to get in his face... he should stand up for himself and bite back. He needs to stutter less. It's pretty annoying when seeing a peter parker that always fumbles upon his words and gives us an "awkward" moment. Repetitive. I just need this character to grow. I also pray that they do not ignor his personal faults. The narrative can be at its peak when it explores some of his temper issues and selfish nature. Make him grow. But yeah, i'm loving the show so far. It brings back a feeling that we haven't felt since the cancelation of The Spectacular Spider-Man. Hope they keep that up.
Although, I would loved that nagging New Yorky Spider-Man man from the Ultimate Spider-Man 2000s comic to show itself just a little more🤏, but that's just me 🧯
For me it's hard to tell because 1) I like the writing 2) I don't like the action 3) The Writing is Really Interesting & I'm keen to see their twist play out because Osborne could be really great
I'm a fan of Spider-man, it irritates me that people like the series “Spectacular”, it missed me when it came out, I tried to watch it years later and I bounced off it, somehow all other animated series about this hero (except the one from MTV - I have not seen it), I like more or less.
I don't really like how Peter's reason for being a hero in this universe is not because of uncle Ben, it's because he got inspired by other heroes. They turned him into freaking Deku, which is honestly very lame and unoriginal.
I haven't seen it yet but the first two things that i didn't like straight off was the animation, I don't know if it's going to grow on me but it just looks like video game with out shaders. Also I like a few of the characters design but some are meh. I might give it a shot. Who knows
I enjoy the show as much as you do. Two Spidey toons had failed me. Ultimate was just Ultimate Annoying with the monkey sfx and 2017 was colorless and bland. YFNSM is a fresh Spidey and they nailed it. Not perfect, but we are two episodes in. Can't wait for the next batch.
If I can yap about something sorta off topic, I'm really tired of this every other year, at the quickest, for a new season for these cartoons. Back in the day you would get 5 seasons in 4-5 years!? Its also kinda hard to stay invested when these shows also last only 10ish episodes.
I genuinely believe the team working on this show were just trying to fix any flaws they found in the main MCU's Spider-Man story & turning it into its own show, because DAMN does this show rule!
that trailer was so bad, i immediately put in my mind to be dropped off. the trailer was diabolical lol, the media guy should never be working in a studio, since i think there's a lot of ppl saw the trailer and decided not to watch it.
For me personally the mischaracterization of peter is really bad, i find him kinda annoying some of the time, and spiderman doesnt feel as confident, hope they will feel more like themselves later on but idk, animation is very stiff the webswinging feels waitless, why they made tombstone not be albino idk, and the whole origin thing it seems they striped him of what makes him interesting, he technically should be cashing in on his powers right about now
I'm not gonna watch it, this has the feeling of a show made for kids, i feel like I'm watching paw patrol and I think is trying to be as cool as x-men 97 and I dont see it ever becoming as good or popular.

Every new incarnation of Peter/Spidey just slips further and further away from the actual character. And the obsession with his very brief overlap of highschool life and learning to be a hero has been beaten to death more than once. This not a good representation of the character at all, but that seems to be common with Spidey properties as of late
It’s such a good beginning I’m very excited
OOOH WE BACK!
I enjoyed the first two episodes of this show quite a lot. The animation is still growing on me, and by now I’m pretty sick of the “apologetic deferential uwu bean” characterization that’s been popular for Peter Parker, but that aside this is the best Spidey cartoon we’ve had for a hot minute.
WE ARE SO BACK!!! I CAN'T WAIT FOR EPISODE 3 :D
Say this on every marvel project
It’s old
@ninjanibba4259 I highly doubt people said this for What If Season 3. Also, the show is doing well so far... have you checked it out yourself?
@@themoviecritic1092 no, why waste my time on another evident failure? I learn from my mistakes unlike most remaining fans
SAME I'm pumped for the next episodes
@ninjanibba4259 Forgive me, but I think that's a horrible take on media. Especially when the episodes granted leave so much to be desired.
I think the only issue i have with the visuals is that when characters are talking the faces do not look good, they look very odd. I think it is because it is mimicing a comic book style so much, and comic books don't move and thats normally fine, but subtle facial movements really push this art style to a degree I don't think works.
What I really wonder is who his canon event will be, I feel like it’s going to be someone like MJ or Gwen Stacy I don’t think they will kill off Aunt May
LISTEN, I've never considered Harry Osborn as an attractive man but man harry from this show hits different
I thought this show was supposed to be a prequel to Spider-Man Homecoming
the best thing about the show is that we got another cool spider-man cartoon intro after two shows in a row that just had some boring ass title cards
THIS IS SO TRUE
4:07 (angry goblin voice) Back to formula…?
Theirs tie in comics that explain what happens after he gets bit
What this show and X-Men 97 have taught some of y'all is that y'all need to stop judging Marvel shows based on one blurry leaked frame.
The new Spider-Man show really surprised me. It's actually really good so far
Although, I would loved that nagging New Yorky Spider-Man man from the Ultimate Spider-Man 2000s comic to show itself just a little more🤏, but that's just me 🧯
For me it's hard to tell because 1) I like the writing 2) I don't like the action 3) The Writing is Really Interesting & I'm keen to see their twist play out because Osborne could be really great
Ultimate Spider-Man was a good show it's one of my favorites
I put this show on for my 9 year old cousin at a family dinner. I ended up watching both episodes with him, genuinely loved it!
I'm a fan of Spider-man, it irritates me that people like the series “Spectacular”,
it missed me when it came out, I tried to watch it years later and I bounced off it,
somehow all other animated series about this hero (except the one from MTV - I have not seen it), I like more or less.
The love triangles are insufferable, specially the GwenxPeterxLiz!
I don't really like how Peter's reason for being a hero in this universe is not because of uncle Ben, it's because he got inspired by other heroes. They turned him into freaking Deku, which is honestly very lame and unoriginal.
Are you going to review Thor tales of asgard
I haven't seen it yet but the first two things that i didn't like straight off was the animation, I don't know if it's going to grow on me but it just looks like video game with out shaders. Also I like a few of the characters design but some are meh. I might give it a shot. Who knows
It has some potential but I hope it stays like that in later episodes.
HES FINALLY BACK LETS GO
I enjoy the show as much as you do.
Its also kinda hard to stay invested when these shows also last only 10ish episodes.
spider-man needs go back to the 60s
I genuinely believe the team working on this show were just trying to fix any flaws they found in the main MCU's Spider-Man story & turning it into its own show, because DAMN does this show rule!
Is interstellar ranger still going to get an episode 5?
Yes
Cool do you know what day week or it will come out?
Question Mr Chair, how do you feel about “My adventures with Superman”?
(This is the Great Accountability timeline)
Can we get a progress check on interstellar ranger please?
Episode 5 is still in production
It's a fun watch, but I prefer the Comic run by the same name
Its 10 times better than 2017 spidey abomination
don’t forget about spider man unlimited
This show is really good
What blew my mind was that apparently every character is from the comic books. I just assumed they were new random kids lol
BROWNTABLE
Your friendly neighborhood spider man is good is the best show
that trailer was so bad, i immediately put in my mind to be dropped off.
the trailer was diabolical lol, the media guy should never be working in a studio, since i think there's a lot of ppl saw the trailer and decided not to watch it.
i think it very cool show
The surprise right answer is NO!
because there are only two episodes at the moment. Wait for more.
0:00 Same.
For me personally the mischaracterization of peter is really bad, i find him kinda annoying some of the time, and spiderman doesnt feel as confident, hope they will feel more like themselves later on but idk, animation is very stiff the webswinging feels waitless, why they made tombstone not be albino idk, and the whole origin thing it seems they striped him of what makes him interesting, he technically should be cashing in on his powers right about now
Oil up Mauricio
l wanted the spectacular spider-man to come back
Frankly the animation has really put me off this show
Lonnie lincoln is tombstone
I'm not gonna watch it, this has the feeling of a show made for kids, i feel like I'm watching paw patrol and I think is trying to be as cool as x-men 97 and I dont see it ever becoming as good or popular.
i like the old spidermans...if this one is all about being more edgy and goomy...sorry don't need extra in my life
