Congratulations on awesome bear. Try the cva powerbelt bullets in either hollow point or accu point 295 grain and 100 grains powder. That combination shoots great out of my TC Omega, each bullet i shot hit within a half inch. I've used the tc Shockwave 250 grains and had a lot of problems with them.
this is the same combo I use and have been for years with 150gr. of powder and I've never lost an animal. with only one bad hit the deer still bled out within 20yds.
That’s awesome and kudos to you for sticking with it to track it down that night. Otherwise, there is a good chance it would have been a lost bear. Congratulations!
Hey Cliff I'm glad you showed what that black powder bullet did I've lost 3 deer because of those bullets I've tried 3 different types of sabot 250 gr. 295 gr. And 300 gr. Next year I'm going to try a 240 gr. Hollow point with the 100 gr.white hot powder thanks for sharing your kill on that bear and what you used for a sabot.
Congrats on a GREAT bear!!! And dont worry about missing the kill shot with the camera, what matters is, ya didn't miss the bear with your muzzleloader!!!!👍😉 God Bless all!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏
Congratulations Cliff, nice bear. I agree on the importance of reporting your kills. Too many hunters see the Game Dept as adversaries and that just isn't the case. Thanks for the great video and keep them coming.
Congratulations Cliff, great bear. I switched to Blackhorn 209 powder after trying most of the others and it's the only one I've found that has no smoke and you can see how the animal reacts to the hit. I used Hornady SST 300 gr bullets and love the way they perform!!!
Great job and congrats on a bear! We shoot the exact same muzzleloader. Definitely upgrade your bullets. I have found by far the best bullet for muzzleloader terminal performance is the Barnes Expander MZ hollow point in 250gr. It gives guaranteed expansion, 100% weight retention, nice pass thurs, and beautiful blood trails. I have used the TC shockwaves and had the same experience as you. Also, try the primos blood light. I have used it to find tiny pin prick blood droplets, and it’s saved the day for me two times ahead of inclement weather. Edit: For powder I really like blackhorn 209.
Just watched your bear video and i would highly recommend power belts 295 grain. 4 deer with a muzzleloader this year and every one of them dropped dead in their tracks. Also they are way easier to load than sabots and you will be happy with the grouping. My buckstalker is throwing 1/4" to 1/2" groups. Keep up the awesome videos.
Good bear and good shot. That's not the first shockwave I've seen not open up. Like others have said, for muzzleloaders you can't beat the all copper Barnes Expander. For the T/C's I've found the ones with the blue sabot loads well and shoots good.
Thank you for shooting even tho you couldn’t film it. Can’t stand when these bigtime channels pass on a shot just because the camera shot isn’t perfect. May not have gotten a buck this year but that bear is awesome. Congrats.
Congrats, corn fed bear is better than beef. I have been using power belt 295 grain hollow points with 110 grains of powder in my Thompson Black Diamond for 20 years. Never a problem.
Regular Shockwaves work very well on whitetails for me here in Ga. I’ve never had one not mushroom and I get a pass through no problem at all on a broadside shot.
Congratulations on the bear. Try out the hornady XTP hollow points. They make them in 240 grain and 300 grain. They’re a .44 caliber bullet with a plastic sabot. I’ve killed several deer with them and they open like crazy and leave huge holes. And awesome blood trails.
Had the same thing happen with the shockwaves on a deer. Killed the deer but didn’t expand at all. Switched to 275g Parker bullets and they have done great on two deer and a bear.
Great job Cliff!! My last dressed at 285 ! They are surely difficult to handle. I would rather deal with an elk ! Nice ! I will email you my black powder load for elk. Congrats again.
Congrats Clifford, Really nice bear, I'm putting in for a bear tag next year to go and hunt the U.P. in Michigan with a buddy that's got property up there. Its never been on my bucket list but he hasn't got anyone interested to go with him so I volunteered. Should be a hoot he got one by himself years ago on this property.
congrats on the bear I have been shooting my TC enccore for 15 years and use the 250 grain shockwaves and from all of the deer i have shot never had a bad bullet like that one the tips of mine have always been yellow not blue wonder what the difference is
Alot of guys have issues with those not opening up. I know of several guys who have had little to no blood on good hits on deer because the round dosent open up. I use similar rounds and so far haven't had an issue. Good bear!
Yeah, the round should have expanded way better than it did. The petals never peeled back. Good thing you found him. My biggest bear was a 200 lb. female. 280 is a good size, big but not ridiculously hard to get out of the woods.
I have tried 150 grains (3, 50 grain Pellets) and yes there is a little more kick. I was able to compare 100 vs. 150 grain shooting on blanket of snow. There seems to be chunks of unburned @ 150. nothing unburned @ 100. I also agree 100 grain shoots more accurately and is a better choice. WTG that will make a nice mount.
Cliff i did away with those bullets a few years ago. I had the same powder and bullet set up and i also had the bullets not open up. Switched to Hornaday 240 grain hollow points and they work really well and shoot well. Congrats on a nice bear give them Hornaday a try you wont be disappointed.
Congrats Awesome Bear, I may just go buy me one of them muzzleloaders, for a Christmas present for myself. I seen alot of tracks during Pa. Buck season, but no sign of them. If you could drop a line on your equipment
Barnes Expander MZ is all we use in MN for our MUzzleloaders! Bears up to 430lbs have never made it more than 25 yds. Drops deer in there tracks. Anyways that’s one hell of a Bear congratulations...🎉
I've never used any of the Shockwaves or polymer tipped rounds. I use hand cast Lyman .44 mag Devastator HP's in an MMP sabot with 90-100 grains of Pyrodex Select......it shoots tighter than J-Lo's joggin' pants at 100 yds. lol......If Blackhorn 209 was available, that'd be my go to powder......none to be had though. Nice job Cliff......ya got em'
Nice bear cliff. Glad you stayed on the track and didn’t just assume it wasn’t a hit because of no blood, that’s why I hate the ol smoke poles. 9 times out of 10 no blood! Hell of a bear buddy nice job
I’d switch to a Barnes T-EZ or T-MZ unfortunately there are very few muzzleloader bullets that perform well. The copper federal bor locks would be another good options but they don’t seal well in all guns.
Nice bear congratulations. The easiest way to tell if a bear is younger or older. The size of the ears if they're big it's a young bear if they're small it's an older bear at least that's the way I was taught
Congratulations.. nice bear! I too am surprised at the performance of your bullet. Some good ones to consider: Barnes SpitFire TEZ or Hornady Mono Flex High Speed / Low Drag. Both are copper based monolithic bullets that perform great. Looking forward to the new Christmas week muzzleloader season. Good luck and the best to you and yours this Christmas and New Years!
I have found the Saboted bullets do the same thing often. They just seem to punch holes in deer. The blood trails I have had with them are not great. Had much better results from round ball although they don't shoot as well. I shoot 100 grains as well for the same reasons.
Congratulations on a great bear. Glad you finally got him. I had a bear down here in West Virginia where I am from get into my honeybees this summer. They can be very destructive animals. Hope you all have have a great Christmas.
Great Job Cliff. Very nice bear. I use the 250gr Powerbelt Aerolite Bullets in my T/C Omega Z5 50cal. Have had great luck with them. Some like them and some hate them. But like all bullets it is trial and error. Need to find the sweet combo that works for your weapon. Again Very Nice Bear.!!
I shoot a .50 cal TC molded bullet, 275 grain with 90 grains of Pyrodex. No copper, all lead. Looks like a wad cutter. But it does well on deer. I've used those bullets for over 30 years now. Stick with what works. Oh, by the way, nice bear! I've never shot one before. I've never saw a bear while hunting, come to think of it. And I've been hunting since the 1970's. My Dad has killed a bear. My big brother saw a sow with 3 cubs while deer hunting. But I have done something that neither one of them have done. I've bagged a turkey.
Great bear! A muzzle loader projectile at 85 yards is down enough on velocity to not expand reliably . Looks like the projectile might have struck bone and closed the point of the bullet. I have had better luck with the Barnes monolithic copper hollow points.
That's awesome! Great memories are made even when it's not on video. It would've been fantastic see it but I'm with you, that's secondary. Merry Xmas to everyone
Really nice bear, congrats! I use Harvester lead bullets that have a plastic tip. Shot my last elk at 10 yards and bullet did just fine with 150gr of Pyrodex behind it. Don't over think the bullet, it doesn't need to be fancy at muzzle loader velocities. Just my 2 cents.
If you cant find them shoot me a message I'll send you sum. I will only ever shoot them from now on in my inline. I'm still a roundball kind of guy for flintlock. But they shoot great in both.
Nice man, I got a 200 lb bear with my bow this year, first one ever. It’s surprisingly delicious. The nys reporting process is 100 times easier this year I agree. I reported my 7 deer and bear.
Thanks for the video man and very nice bear.and as far as the bullet gos it looks like it hit bone when it went in and pintched the end shut.if you do change bullets try out power belts I use to use those sabot style bullets and switched to power belts and havnt had any problems.im actually using the power belt elr bullets and I'm really impressed with them so far also used the power belt that are Silver color with red tip they work good as well also if you can find them the federal bore lock all copper bullets work well also.any ways just my two cent thanks again and God bless
I have been hunting bear hear in pa since I could hunt and have not killed one yet and I am 40 .. been on lots of drives and have been part of drives that killed 300 plus bears god bless you today man ..
Congratulations on the bear! I shoot a CVA Wolf with 120 grains of FFG hodgens with a 250 grain Hornady SST, bullet mushrooms every time and deer don’t go anywhere. Have yet to shoot a bear yet but I’m working on it
Congratulations Cliff. Nice bear. Must not be able to bait bears where you live.. I got the same Thompson center triumph. I use the same sabot. But use the triple seven pellets. 150 grain.
I've had great luck with T/C Shockwave in 200 gr sabots. Flat shooting and expansion is great. I think the 200 gr expands better than the 250's for some reason. Hornady XTP Hollow points also performed well
Cool to see you finally get that bear. That bullet sure didn't perform well. Makes me think about my loads since I'm shooting a similar style bullet. Looked like a pretty nice bear to me with that big block head. Grats
Nice bear cliff . i still never got one yet. Ware we hunt seems like there is none out there. Been hunt there for like 25 yrs and never seen a sign of one. ?
Heck yah man congratulations that's a hell of a bear and crazy that bullet didn't do what it was sopost to do I wouldn't use those again but congratulations again and those bears are sneaky how they came walk right up to you he was trying smell you out come down wind and stand see what that blind was you were in lol
Haven't shot a bear with my MZ but I used .44Mag XTP by Hornady with a sabot wad. With only 80grains of powder they almost turn inside out, about double the caliber.
I shoot the Hornaday sst 250 grain not sure if those would work any better for you or not they look very similar.. groups well out of my CVA accura and my woodman arms
Congratulations Cliff. Thanks for taking me along. God bless.
Thanks 👍
Congratulations on awesome bear. Try the cva powerbelt bullets in either hollow point or accu point 295 grain and 100 grains powder. Congratulations cliff I tracked one the same day your right they like those warm days in December nice job
"Well let's not get ahead of ourself" Classic line by Kayleigh
How cool is that.Look at all the fawns you saved.Congratulations Cliff..
Man that's how most of hunts go with no food plot to sit on you r so blessed man hard work pays off every time ...
That’s awesome and kudos to you for sticking with it to track it down that night. Otherwise, there is a good chance it would have been a lost bear. Congratulations!
Looking forward to seeing the rug when he’s done. Good job with the bear Cliff 👍
Nice! Well Done!!
Good Thing You Decided To Track That Night Instead Of Waiting for Morning Light With The Rain Forecasted!!
Keep Smiling On!!
😀👍👊❤
Good judgement to go after em, always like seeing grandpa's reaction 🤘, get him on camera as much as you can, congrats on your harvest 👏
Congrats on a GREAT bear!!! And dont worry about missing the kill shot with the camera, what matters is, ya didn't miss the bear with your muzzleloader!!!!👍😉 God Bless all!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hahaha that smirk about not going to find a bear in the dark . Congrats man!
Congratulations on a great bear! I prefer any of the Barnes muzzleloader bullets or the Thor bullets. solid copper and they expand and perform great.

Thank you for shooting even tho you couldn’t film it. Can’t stand when these bigtime channels pass on a shot just because the camera shot isn’t perfect. May not have gotten a buck this year but that bear is awesome. Congrats.

Congratulations on a big, beautiful bear Cliff. Wishing you and the family a wonderful and blessed holidays.
Thanks! Happy holidays!
Congratulations a little different hunt than the food plot deer … hopefully you are feeling better and Merry Christmas!!!
Thanks, you too!
Congrats on your bear Cliff. He'll make a beautiful rug. I've been trying to get one with a bow for awhile now. One of these years it'll happen.
Congratulations on the bear. Try out the hornady XTP hollow points. They make them in 240 grain and 300 grain. They’re a .44 caliber bullet with a plastic sabot. I’ve killed several deer with them and they open like crazy and leave huge holes. And awesome blood trails.

Nice. This mild weather has kept them active..
Cliff super nice bear Congrats with the smokepole makes it even better !!
Great job Cliff!! My last dressed at 285 ! They are surely difficult to handle. I would rather deal with an elk !
Nice ! I will email you my black powder load for elk. Congrats again.
Hornady SST 295 grain bullet with 120 grains of powder behind it. Been working well for me for years. Tons of knock down power.
That’s a big black bear good call going after him that night. Congratulations
Congrats Clifford, Really nice bear, I'm putting in for a bear tag next year to go and hunt the U.P. in Michigan with a buddy that's got property up there. Congrats on the bear. I use a 270 gran platinum aero tip power pellet with 2 60 grain pellets. It blows a pretty good size home in a deer
Congratulations on the bear !!! That's Awesome!!!Try the powerbelts, have a good luck with them ...Happy Holidays & Good luck rest of the season.

Congrats cliff on a beautiful bear. Your seasons just keep getting better and better. Thanks again for the time well spent. Happy Holidays
Thanks 👍
Hello from bristol NY. 370 grain TC maxi ball my favorite by far.
I’m a power belt guy.245 grain euro tip.100 grains of powder. My wife and I have shot a lot of deer with them..

That’s awesome. Congratulations buddy. I laughed when I heard kaylee utter out on the side by side. “ let’s not get ahead of ourselves “ 😆😆😆
Thanks 👍
Congratulations Cliff!
Good Bear Cliff, congrats!
A lil late to the game…awesome bear man! 300 pounder! Good shit!! All in all, you’ve had a pretty stellar season.
Nice bear cliff. Glad you stayed on the track and didn’t just assume it wasn’t a hit because of no blood, that’s why I hate the ol smoke poles. 9 times out of 10 no blood! Hell of a bear buddy nice job

Congratulations on a great bear. Glad you finally got him. I had a bear down here in West Virginia where I am from get into my honeybees this summer. They can be very destructive animals. Hope you all have have a great Christmas.
Look into the power belt bullet line they load a lot easier in the mushroom very well. Very devastating on game. Good job nice bear

Wow excellent shot !
I love the fact the tag "bear-ly" fitted 😂😂🤟
Really nice bear, congrats! I use Harvester lead bullets that have a plastic tip. Shot my last elk at 10 yards and bullet did just fine with 150gr of Pyrodex behind it. Don't over think the bullet, it doesn't need to be fancy at muzzle loader velocities. Just my 2 cents.
Congrats. I use the hornady or tc 240 grain xtp hollow points and they group fantastic and leave one hell of a hole
Thanks for the tip
If you cant find them shoot me a message I'll send you sum. I will only ever shoot them from now on in my inline. I'm still a roundball kind of guy for flintlock. But they shoot great in both.
Look into the barnes spitfire t-ez muzzloader bullets I've had great luck with barnes bullets in my muzzleloader, rifles, and shotgun
Nice man, I got a 200 lb bear with my bow this year, first one ever. It’s surprisingly delicious.
The nys reporting process is 100 times easier this year I agree. I reported my 7 deer and bear.
Always entertaining to watch your videos. Great bear.
Glad you enjoy it!
Nice bear Cliff, a lot of good eating there👍🏻
Thanks for the video man and very nice bear.and as far as the bullet gos it looks like it hit bone when it went in and pintched the end shut.if you do change bullets try out power belts I use to use those sabot style bullets and switched to power belts and havnt had any problems.im actually using the power belt elr bullets and I'm really impressed with them so far also used the power belt that are Silver color with red tip they work good as well also if you can find them the federal bore lock all copper bullets work well also.any ways just my two cent thanks again and God bless
I have been hunting bear hear in pa since I could hunt and have not killed one yet and I am 40 .. been on lots of drives and have been part of drives that killed 300 plus bears god bless you today man ..
Nice bear!! Had the same thing happen with powerbelts! Nosler or Barnes expanders for me!! You do a very good job with everything every time!!
Thanks 👍
Congratulations on the bear! I shoot a CVA Wolf with 120 grains of FFG hodgens with a 250 grain Hornady SST, bullet mushrooms every time and deer don’t go anywhere. Have yet to shoot a bear yet but I’m working on it
Great job. I said this earlier best spread in WNY. MERRY CHRISTMAS.
Happy holidays!
I actually got my bear this year as well. Also just bought them bullets for my flintlock.
Cliff I shoot the Traditions smackdown sst's in my muzzeloader and I think there awesome, and for me the blood trails are really good
Congratulations Cliff. Nice bear. Must not be able to bait bears where you live.. I got the same Thompson center triumph. I use the same sabot. But use the triple seven pellets. 150 grain.
Thanks 👍
Hey cliff. Use the Federal trophy copper muzzle loader bullets. 270 grain and super deadly. I promise you will not regret changing.
I'll check them out!
I've had great luck with T/C Shockwave in 200 gr sabots. Flat shooting and expansion is great. I think the 200 gr expands better than the 250's for some reason. Hornady XTP Hollow points also performed well
Thanks for your insight!
Cool to see you finally get that bear. That bullet sure didn't perform well. Makes me think about my loads since I'm shooting a similar style bullet. Looked like a pretty nice bear to me with that big block head. Grats
Thanks, I couldn't believe how poorly that round performed. Luckily it traveled through the vitals of the bear.
Congratulations. That is a nice one
Try the Barnes expanders or hornady borelocks for expansion. I used to used the shockwaves all the time but after some issues I switched
I'll check them out.
Haven't shot a bear with my MZ but I used .44Mag XTP by Hornady with a sabot wad. With only 80grains of powder they almost turn inside out, about double the caliber.
Love your hunts
Congratulations hope all is well and safe✌💚🔥
Awesome man I shot a 620 pound bear in green county NY...dressed out at 550
I shoot the Hornaday sst 250 grain not sure if those would work any better for you or not they look very similar.. groups well out of my CVA accura and my woodman arms
That’s awesome Cliff! Congratulations on a nice bruiser of a bear.
Thanks 👍
Congrats on the Bear that is awesome I wish i could have gotten mine this year very nice
Thanks 👍
