It’s something else. The guys is likely the best metal drummer today, BUT hes also an absolutely insane jazz/Brazilian Rhythms percussionist

While the guitar player and bass player aren’t from the original lineup both were in the classic lineup of Cavalera/Cavalera/Kisser/Paulo Jr. Kisser has been on every album since 1987 and Paolo Jr has been on every album since Chaos A.D. So Paulo Jr and Andreas Kisser are the ones continuing the legacy of the band. That’s VERY different from a situation like Foreigner.
Paolo Jr was on the first album so think you got that wrong.
Paulo is from the original lineup.

Adreas Kisser and Paulo Jr. original members!
Andreas came in on the second album, schizophrenia (when they really got good IMO). Paulo wasn't the first bassist, but I think he's recorded on every album, so I consider him an original member. Even so, I think this is the best line-up of Sepultura. The writing is so much better than their 80's/ early 90's output and they've stayed a hell of a lot more relevant than many bands of their era.
You need to watch the song Means to an End.
And now that I've actually watched the vid, yeah that's some serious groove right there. Love the tom grooves. And you're right, the band is staying in 6/8 while he plays a 4/4 over it in that spot. Gives a nice disjointed feel to it without being all chaotic the way something weird like 5/4 over 6/8 would be.
You should listen do their album Quadra... that`s one the best metal albuns from the last decade. Cavaleras are past.

Hey Steve, new subscriber here and I’m really enjoying your vids and reactions. I HIGHLY recommend checking out Nate Smith’s drumming with The Fearless Flyers. They are sort of a spin off band of the funk band Vulfpeck with The Incredible Joe Dart on Bass
Gonna recommend Ace of Aces ua-cam.com/video/6NdWg4xIus8/v-deo.html but really any of their videos will be right up your alley I think after watching your reaction to Anderson .Paak. On some of their tracks Nate literally does just hold it down with the snare, bass, and high-hat kit.
You should check the latest album QUADRA. Theres a lot of drum videos by Eloy on his channel ... its huge.

I know ur trying to keep away from death metal but check out alan cassidy from Black Dahlia Murder. His speed his top tier with backing up the vocals and guitar. More interested on his double bass speed technique. The song catacomb hatacomb is a good showing of his mastery.

If you want to check out something slightly different ... check out Zakir Hussain, he is a maestro of Tabla (which are kinda Indian hand drums). Just to you know check out a new instrument, an expert that everyone should know about, and a whole new culture. There are many videos out there... I guess a solo video like ‘Horse running’ would be a perfect place to start ...
