Hey Everyone!
I hope you all are safe and are weathering this storm. This week was really difficult for me as I faced the possibility that Yale may not go back into session (in person) until January 2021 and that moving in August may not be the safest option. I am trying to stay optimistic but it is a hard pill to swallow. I feel for everyone that is being effected by this in their own way and hope that we can all band together and support one another. I’m an American who is supposed to be starting my undergrad at Oxford in the fall. It’s crazy that graduation/prom/all the senior year things are cancelled, but the thought of moving to England and starting in October has been keeping me motivated. Now, as everyone’s starting to realize that even school in the fall may not happen, it’s really difficult to stay positive. But 1) there’s still a lot of uncertainty so there’s no point getting too sad before anything’s official and 2) everyone’s in the same boat. It WILL get better and I’m sure in a couple years looking back, this bump in the road will seem much more minor than it does now. I love your channel and can’t wait to see what the future holds for you!!!

Kaelyn, I’m facing the same uncertainty as you. I’m meant to move to London in September to start my master’s at LSE but, obviously, that may not be in the cards anymore. Just know that you’re not alone. I so admire your tenacity and ability to see beyond this craziness right now. Academia means a lot to me as well and, luckily, it will always be there! I really like what you said about us all being in this together but handling this in different ways. I just discovered your channel during quarantine and your videos really motivate me and I feel like I function in about the same high functioning way while dealing with stress. Studying and doing work calms me down. Also, I’m just a sophomore in high school and my dream school is Yale and I’m stressed out about AP exams because they completely changed the structure for kids to take them at home. It is so stressful for everyone in so many different ways but you will go to make it to Yale! You are so positive! Stay strong!

Hey! I'm supposed to be starting my Grad School journey in Oxford this fall too, and yeah the feeling of uncertainty definitely sucks. But I just wanna say that cheer up and keep your chin up - this is just but a small road bump in your journey as an academic! You will do great and will one day look back at this and laugh at how ridiculous this whole situation was and how it probably has made you much stronger mentally. ATB! :)

No matter what, you still have an incredibly bright future ahead of you! I was rejected from Berkeley today and was a little hurt over it, but I know that it really wasn’t the best choice for me anyways. At this point, we kind of have to take what we have and make the most out of it. Keep up the incredible videos! 💛

I'm an Indian, meant to start my master's at LSE this fall, which might not happen because of the current scenario. Moreover, since I also have high-functioning anxiety, I understand how bad this period of uncertainty gets, especially when we've worked so much and it all seems to be falling apart right before our eyes. But we need to keep telling ourselves that this will pass, and very soon we'll all be at places that we've worked for! Much love to you

Adding myself to the comments here going through the same struggle. I’m supposed to be starting my master’s in Charleston in August but have not heard anything from the program about delays. Hopefully they do the safest thing. Whatever happens just take care of yourself and try not to stress. I’m trying to look at this as more time to save up money for the move. The universities will always be there for us when this blows over. Until then, I’m binging Ru Paul’s Drag Race and eating all the ice cream. Sending good vibes your way! 💕

I am facing the same uncertainty regarding moving for my post-doc, which begins in June. It was really difficult for a bit knowing that I wouldn't be able to start my research back again, going into the lab, until September potentially. Many in academia in the same boat. While you might not physically be in New Haven, know that you are making strides to reaching your goals.

Hi Kaelyn, great video (again) All I can say is do not worry about things you have no control over, it is both wasted mental AND physical energy!! I applaud you for recognising the plight of others in relation to your own circumstances. As regards Yale, this will happen eventually, you know this!!....patience girl. My own circumstances are totally different, (as you probably gathered from my previous posts) Im currently being paid 80% of my salary to self isolate, (furloughed) my company pays this, then claims it back from the UK Govt. I count myself really fortunate to be a British citizen right now, my standard of living will not be affected. Unlike you, and your fellow students, Im too old to dream of the future, so I live in the moment and count my blessings daily. Yes youve been thrown a curve ball, believe me there will be more. In the meantime take care of your health(every time you come home from the barn your back hurts) Im no Einstein but?? Hot bath/ stretch........

I am also unsure if I was starting my masters program at Dartmouth in the fall. I don’t think COVID-19 will let up by August, so I’m expecting to delay my studies until January 2021. It’s a difficult pill to swallow because I had plans to apply to PhD programs, but that seems I have to delay that as well. It sucks, but I believe it’s going to be okay!
I want to say how much I appreciate you saying what you’re going through as well. I know many people are in a similar situation and I think talking about it and coming together is so important 💕 I pray we’ll both be able to start sooner rather than later
TheRedHeadAcademic It’s good that you are also talking about it as well. I also feel like I am in a position of privilege to only have to worry about going back to school, but it is a disappointment nonetheless.

Stay strong and don’t punish yourself for not feeling okay; it’s good that you can acknowledge privilege as many can’t but that said, it doesn’t make your feelings any less potent or valid.
