Read a critic on this movie once that I agree with. The "redemption" isn't Andy's. Its Red's. At the beginning he had no hope. Hope is a dangerous thing he said; til his final words. " I hope the pacific is as blue as in my dreams. I hope" Brilliant film making.

The relationship between Andy and Red was the best part of the movie. They were honest with each other, had each other's backs, were supportive of each other, and were friends until the end. Powerful. I cry every time, and always think, "That is a true friend."

I have a good friend for the past 64 years. We have not lived the lives and had the difficulties and adventures of these two but we have always been in each others lives. She was put next to me at the first day of school and we have been friends ever since. Just don’t expect too much of the other person. Just be there.

This movie holds a special place in my life. It has always been my favourite, but it took on added significance around nine years ago. At that time, I was diagnosed with rare and incurable blood cancer, and I happened to watch this movie again the same week. The line, "I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really Get busy living, or get busy dying." sums up my philosophy. I'm still busy living after all these years, and will never give up. Dec. 24, 2018----No, little towns in America are not just a dream. Used to drive truck and for awhile, thru every state but Maine & Minnesota. Grandpa & Dad moved from New York state to Golconda, Illinois when Dad was a small kid and he's 92 this year. Was traveling thru Illinois when I realized I would be 20 miles or so from the interstate highway to Golconda....without hesitation, I went for it. Down a 2 lane state road and over 2 bridges marked narrow bridge and they were too.NO idea what I was going to find or even how to get back onto the interstate after (hopefully) getting to Golconda. Found a big open spot in front of the city courthouse where I parked 70 feet of truck and trailer. When I got out of the truck, a policeman was cruising by, so I waved out of habit and he waved back. Took a bunch of photos with me in some of them. When I emailed them to Dad, he couldn't believe it as he hadn't been home in at least 10 years. And of course, he wondered how the hell did I ever get out of town. All I had to do was make a couple of lefts in front of the city courthouse and back down that 2 lane state road and back on the interstate. The same day after leaving Golconda, able to stop in Metropolis, Illinois the home of Superman where I got more photos. Been to Tupelo, Mississippi the birth place of Elvis where I visited a massive car museum which sadly is now being sold. Bottom line: small towns still exist in America though the media would have you believe other wise.

Any decade that produced “Apocalypse Now”, “The Godfather” “The DeerHunter” and “One Flew Over the cuckoo’s nest” oh yeah and “Taxi Driver” is untouchable.

What a brilliant team of very gifted people! Holliwood ought to produce more movies like this. But its clear you cant have a masterpiece produced on a daily babsis. They still have a good score anyway. Although the last good movie I saw was probably the American beauty. But I am sure there've been more. I haven't seen them all
