The foreign reporters did not go down to the southern parts of the island where the hurricane EYE passed and where the damages were more severe. In the south, where it is flat, many areas heavy rains and tsunami type waves coming in from the ocean

That would explain the Irish accent as well as the prevalence of Irish last names and Irish words in Jamaica. That would also explain why Jamaican cuisine features so many traditional Irish dishes like corned beef and cabbages, Irish moss, etc. I read somewhere that 25% of Jamaicans can claim Irish ancestry.

However, I haven't heard from him since he lives near Iberstar Rose Hill resort. Do you know of the status in that area as if the power went out any flooding?

The hurricane did come inland it's mostly along the coastal line. The majority of the inland areas are not affected.
