On June 3rd, Hurricane Beryl's intense Category 4 winds beat down on the island of Jamaica. While the hurricane's eye wall just barely missed making landfall, the most intense winds and rain fell on the small tourist and fishing towns on Jamaica's southern coast. Areas like Treasure Beach, Southfield, Alligator Pond, and other rural towns experienced some of the most catastrophic damage on the entire island.
Homes were completely blown apart, roofs were ripped off, living spaces were flooded from the rain, trees ripped from the ground, and power lines snapped in half. Hurricane Beryl has left the entire southern side of the island without power and with limited cell coverage. To make matters worse, immediately after Beryl passed by, much of Jamaica was then hit with an intense tropical wave days later which caused even more devastation to those already facing so much destruction.
As a photographer and videographer, I wish there as more I can do to help the residents of south Jamaica, but unfortunately at this moment, the best action is to simply help support rebuilding through charity and giving.
If anyone wants further updates or wants to help out my wife's family, please email me at patrick@fstoppers.com as we continue to learn more about the news coming from our neighboring island. If you want to help in a more general way, please consider giving a donation of any amount to The American Friends of Jamaica at theafj.app.neo...

As someone who is STILL without power here in Houston, I fully understand the nature of this hurricane. I've been going to regularly to JA since '93, at least every August, and will return to beloved Negril on the 1st. Those of us who do frequently return "home" have been in constant touch with the locals there on the east coast, but far too little attention has been paid to the southern coast, which I'm glad you have highlighted here. We encourage all visitors who are able to bring with them necessary supplies, inquire ahead as they will let you know what is most needed. I'll have to visit Treasure Beach again, as it's been several years. Cheers to you and your lovely family back in JA

Patrick, thank you for giving some spotlight on this. I'm a photographer too, and also live on the south coast of Jamaica in St. Catherine but fortunately my area wasn't as badly affected as those in Manchester, St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland. I was still without power, water and had limited cell service 4 days after Beryl passed. There are several households especially in the most affected areas that still are without essential services. Some of us are trying to offer assistance where we can to help. Much love my brother.

Good to hear from you Dwayne! Do you have power back now and cell service? How is it finding plywood and zinc roofing material? -P

@FStoppers power was restored in my community on Sunday and water returned on Monday. The power company issued a statement yesterday i believe it was that said power had been restored to 88% of customers island wide. There was an article that mentioned nearly 300 power poles were knocked down by Beryl. Its a slow and stead restoration process right now

@@DwayneKSmith876that’s good news. I knew our Aunt who lives in Mandeville still doesn’t have power and that area is much more built up than where the other family lives. Southfield and Treasure Beach are still without power as of the 11th. -P

Treasure Beach is one of the most special places I have been. Wonderful and generous people and a very strong community that will overcome this terrible challenge. One Love.

God bless you and your willingness to highlight this. I have friends in the north who lost their roofs, and they were ways away from the places you highlighted. I can imagine the south, because I went through Gilbert in 1988.❤❤❤

Thanks for sharing. I get so annoyed when I hear people saying, "Thank goodness Jamaica was spared." The people on the south coast don't feel that way!

Thank you for sharing. I’m from Bull Savannah, St Elizabeth. It’s devastating… power will be out in some places for over a month. All houses in some communities have lost roofs. Im on the ground for a few weeks. If I can assist. Let me know

Thanks so much for making this video, I’ll share it and I hope some more help can be sent their way. As a ex pat I was concerned about how they would fare. I haven’t heard any news of what happened down there and assumed they dodged a bullet.

The coverage of this storm has been so disappointing. I cannot believe what happened to Union Island SVG. I'm trying to get back very soon to help rebuild my homeland. 🙁

It is rough, but it could have been so much worse everywhere in Jamaica, even the South Coast.
The diaspora needs to keep pressure on the government for fair, transparent, and relatively swift allocation of aid and restoration of services for family in Jamaica.

The devastation is heart breaking. I just arrived back in the UK, the storm was terrifying and the suffering is felt across the parish. Solar powered items are desperately needed by the locals. I need to carry out alot of repairs to our roof and ceilings but tradesman are hard to find because they are in high demand 😢

      @FStoppers  Місяць тому

Ah I'm sorry to hear that. Do you live in the UK and are having to repair a house back on the island? I live in Puerto Rico and moved here right after Maria. Many people here have invested in whole home generators and solar panel solutions after Maria but of course those are expensive. I hope you and your family can get the processes started so they can restore shelter and some comfort. -P

Jamaica just needs to Identify as the Ukraine or Israel for a day and all would be taken care of. It's a shame our priorities are so mixed up.
