1950s American Pedal Car Restoration - Perfect Restoration.
Hello again everybody. I am really happy to be with you in this project.
I am going to restore an American made, Murray brand pedal car. After researching, I have found out that these pedal cars were first made in 1949. And this model is called Commet or Torpedo. So it has two names. I think I am going to call it Commet. Actually Murrat Commet resembles of the name 1952 Buick Super Convertible. The three holes inside the left and right fenders can be found on both Commet and Buick Super. 50’s classical and aesthetic body lines can be seen on this unique car. I started with demoing the car. Paint on the main body was worn off and corrosion has started on some places. After degreasing and cleaning, with the use of paint stripper and sandblasting I got body clean. Thus I could see all the deformations on it. With the use of planishing hammer and anvil, I fixed those. To prepare for painting I used polyester putty, sandpaper, 2k undercoat, sandpaper again and finally painted it with 2k paint. To get a chrome effect, front grill, front and rear bumpers, right and left rocker panels has been painted with grey paint before. And I was able to actualize to nitrate coat those pieces as I thought they were intended to be made that way. That made me achieve an awesome and shiny mirror look. For this procedure, @emrahergn helped me. I want to thank him for the beautiful work he did. If you want to check his channel, you can click on his name. After cleaning, paint stripping and sandblasting the moving metal parts and the chassis of the vehicle, I reparied them. And I sandblasted them, then painted them with oven-drying paint. Body and the chassis pieces were painted with the same color code, ral 3002. But I sanded the surfaces of the wheels and painted them with a Retro beige paint and lastly put glossy varnish on them. I wanted to sand and re-buff the chrome plated pieces but they were too corroded-away, so I couldn’t do that so I undercoated and painted them. Next, like I did on the main body, I silver nitrate coated them and created a mirror shiny finish. There were small cracks on the tyres but they weren’t in bad condition. I degreased and cleaned them. Old seat covers were in unusable condition so I decided to make new ones. Fort his @sanlicraft helped me. We designed an awesome beige-leather seat covers fort he seats. Thanks to @sanlicraft for his help. He posts leather work on his channel, if you want to check him out you can click on the link. I thought I could make some parts for the car that were missing with laser cutting, like plates and dial. To produce these, @leonartatelier helped me. With the equipment he owns, O2 and fiber galvo laser, we produced the parts. Thanks to @leonartatelier for his craftsmanship. I want to say that I am hoping to see laser videos posted as soon as possible from him. I want to bring attention to four more pieces; I bought new bearings for the old bearings, which fitted perfectly. Possibly this was the most important part of this project. Instead of a new system, newly bought, fitting parts were a better choice. I made a piece for the plate, that I could fix before I fix the plate on, because the surface I was going to fix the plate on wasn’t flat. Looking at the pictures in the users manual, I made a instruction paper. And to be known as the person who made all of the work, I fixed a brass sheet in a hidden spot for it to be my signature with the help of camber headed brass bolts. It was a long, but a detailed video. I hope you like it. What is your favorite part in the video? Don’t forget to comment about this. And I need to remind that I read every single comment. Don’t forget to like, if you liked watching the video. I look forward to read your comments. See you in the next project. Take care.

I never comment on videos of any kind, but I feel like I need to say two things. One, the level of skill shown here is incredible. Two, I really like that it's not a clipped 15-minute video showing only highlights; the hour long is a perfect length to see and appreciate the entire restoration. Excellent work.
Thank you so much sir 🙏🏻
I was born in '54...this beautiful restored car reminds me of my Dad's Buick Roadmaster! I never had one of these, but played with several kids in my neighborhood who had them...I understand that these in good original condition are very desirable to collectors! From start to finish...it is always a delight to watch a MASTER CRAFTSMAN apply his or her skills, as you certainly have done here! ❤👍
Yes that was very impressive 👍🔧
I agree, the longer video format and the lack of music allowing for the natural audio of a craftsman and his tools. This might be weird, but these videos are very ASMR-inducing for me. They are very relaxing to listen to.
life is too short not to comment on YT. YTcomments are the only thing that will still be on here long after my death.
This is by far the most eclectic and multi-faceted operational restoration I have ever seen you perform. I am impressed with not just your skills but, as much, with your keen knowledge of the various ways in which to accomplish the very best in restoration. Simply put.....great work at every turn...thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much sir
@@meinemechaniker You must be an auto-body guy by trade. The leather-work and the way you handle spray paint. Skills!

If my parents gave me that car, I’d be the proudest kid on the block! Excellent job!
🤗♥️
A friend of mine bought an old metal pedal-car for his daughter. He brought it to an auto body shop and had the guy restore it. The guy used paint left over from another job he did. It came out so pretty he wouldn't let his daughter take it outside. Those old kiddie-cars held more charm than the plastic ones they make today, because they were made of real metal like Daddy's car. Wonderful job, as always.
And they had dents just like dad's car too! :D
@@ilfardrachadi2318 Oh you're so clever.
You can buy all metal reproductions as well. But they are very exspensive.
Over the top on this one--from the silver nitrite 'chrome' finish to the dash details!!!! Wow, this is something else to watch! Not sure about restoration as that implies taking it back to what it was. This has to be better than it was new!! A joy to watch your talent. Excellent! Thanks for sharing your passion!
Thank you so much sir

I'd say its a resto mod
If I had a child, it would be an honor to gift her or him with this toy car. Exquisite job!
No child should be allowed even near that beauty.
This belongs to a museum. Not the car, but your work.
What no wide rims , no entertainment center, no chip tuning it’s not even lower……. Ist it wonderful to have something be and look so simple but yet still shine like a diamond and get everyone’s heads turning? Gorgeous👍🏻
1 hr of restoration!! That's a dream come true.
😅
@@meinemechaniker you wish… -)
This is absolutely the most amazing restoration that I have ever seen on UA-cam. You are the master and have set the bar really high for the other restorers. Great work. 👍👍👍
Thank you so much mate
This is absolutely amazing, I have never seen such perfection, and skills like this,
THANK YOU for saving such a great toy. I am almost sixty years old and had a pick up truck version of a pedal car. This is an important object from a great time when toys fuelled the imagination and the imagination fuelled toys. Great memories.
🙏🏻
Absolutely magnificent! Not just a restoration, but the creation of an incredible work of art!
Thanks
@@meinemechaniker First off you did an absolutely phenomenal job restoring that Toy car.. But I noticed only one thing wrong and I actually had to Giggle when I seen it.. I noticed you forgot the N in “Does Not have a breaking” on your warning sticker.. I promise I am not the Grammar police Shooooot I make more mistakes than that.. but I thought it was funny and cute because it now said “Does Ot have a breaking” Keep up the amazing work..
Edit to add you can see @ 1:05:29 I only noticed it because my daughter was watching this video on the big screen TV and I was watching it with her.. Her and My Dad used to watch a lot of your restoration videos together.. Until we lost him almost 17 months ago.. Than out of no where tonight she asked me if I would sit and watch this one with her tonight.. It was Bitter Sweet only because that was THEIR THING to do together but at least glad she asked me if I would fill in for him because she was thinking of and missing him so much..
@@StalkThisBish greetings ✋
Like everytime the best !!! This is not just restoration, this is one hour of pure art ,this is next level in the house !!! 👍👍👍❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🥇🏆🥂
Thanks man
Did anyone else stop and look up when Velcro was invented? It surprised me to see it used on the original seat of a 1950s toy. I thought it was a newer invention than that. It was invented in 1957, so it still would have been unusual to see it on a children’s toy back then. Maybe it was added later?
Fantastic restoration, as always.
This is a 1950's style pedal car but it is more recent vintage. Google pink 1950's style pedal car super sport.
LOL. I did. Drinking my coffee and saw the velcro and was like: "Whaa" immediately went to google. I can only assume this was added later.
This is definitely a newer, but vintage style pedal car. Nyloc nuts weren't invented until the mid 60's.
@@joshperkins197 I noticed that on the first wheel
Bazaar! I felt my 1957 childhood come back! Fantastic job!
The best restoration on UA-cam, the bar has been set.
I had a car like this when I was a child in the 1960's. Memories! Love the attention to detail. You never cease to amaze!
Simply the best! That silver nitrate knocked it out of the park!
This is what they mean when they say "Better than New"
Awesome transformation.
What! No leather airbags?
You are the GOAT restoration maestro.
Filming and editing is soo much better now: more relaxed, perfect editing. I never doubt your craftmanship, but sometimes I hope the filming is as perfect as the restoration. This time you nailed both! Bravo!
Thanks mate
IMO this is the best restoration you have ever done. Bravo
Tahank you sir but safe restoratin is good 🤗
Ich habe keine Worte fur das Auto - es ist ein Kunstwerk! Ich danke Ihnen fur das Teilen!!
I am amazed and I have restored an E-type so I know a bit about restoration; but this was simply astounding!
Hands down the best restoration of a pedal car I have seen. Thank you for sharing!
🙏🏻
He did way more than he had to-to an obsessive degree. I love it.
Thanks a lot sarah
I love how gingerly you take them apart to make them look and work like new again!
Simply stunning. The best restoration of a tin toy I have ever seen.
This is a next level restoration. That mate is an absolute work of art. Some collector would pay a fortune for that.
Every second is worth watching. Respect for this guy.
Thank you so much 🙏🏻
My jaw dropped with the silver nitrate solution application. I have never seen that before. Wow!
It's amazing with the coaches you working on it he brought tears to my eyes cuz I remember when I was 6 years old I had the same Studebaker mine was blue I had it until I turn eight then I gave it to a little friend that he didn't have none great job it looks like a brand new pedal card again
Now that's what I call a restoration. Beautiful!
Thank you 🙏🏻
This pedal car restoration was true perfection! Please seriously consider making more of these videos and don't change a thing!
🤗
A great restoration. When I was a young boy I owned two of these cars. They were both my everyday pedal cars. Brings back great memories. Today is January 13th 2023. Thank you for the Post.
Thanks sir
That silver nitrate is cool. Plus I love all the sandblasting it needed.
Thank you for the magical childhood memory of my grandfather's own restoration/reinvention of a very similar auto circa 1949-1950. Minus today's technology, all the work he did on our car was by hand. After sanding by hand and repainting by brush (silver "radiator" paint in place of chrome), he removed the twisted, broken, and partly missing pedal assembly and mounted the body onto our American Flyer sled. Come winter, we were the envy of every kid on the block as Grandpa, surely feeling as proud as the toddlers in his charge, towed them through the neighborhood for all to see. Totally enjoyed your video ..after finding it quite by accident on what otherwise would have been another lonely Thanksgiving night. Again, more than 70 years later, I can't thank you enough! (P.S. -- Hope you find the missing "horn" one day.) Ich wünsche dir viel Liebe, Glück und Frieden!
Thank you so much sir 🙏🏻
I was born in ‘53. I had this exact pedal car. My daddy said I could back up and turn it around on a dime. I would drive that thing for hours. Finally all the tread came off the wheels and I got too big to sit in it, but I still tried😂 Thanks for the memories.
Super work!👍
Greetings from Russia!!! 😎
Excellent job. Eye popping finish.
If I had the money to buy all the equipment used in this video, I could happily do restorations like this for the rest of my days.
I love the way that old skills and knowledge are used in conjunction with modern, cutting edge machinery to transform old collectables into gleaming new works of art, that not only keep memories alive, but extend their existence way beyond their original life span.
Thank you for a fascinating video 👍
thanks sir

The leather Working is by far the coolest thing I've seen. It looks so cool!
I had one in blue. So happy to see one restored. Nicely done.
I can’t believe i watched an entire 1-hour long youtube video; yet it didn’t feel like an hour. What an absolute joy to witness the incredible skills, patience, and care you’ve placed in reviving this beautiful toy. It’s like going back in time; but you’ve also made it better than new! Bravo!!!
Thank you so much sir 🙏🏻
The deepest respect for your craftsmanship. Just a pleasure to watch 👌🏻
🙏🏻
Wow. This would have to be better than the original finished car - the quality finish is like on a real car!
Here is the real restoration. Congratulations! Great work. 👏👏👏

Brilliant restoration !! watching the chrome paint-on was the best part :-)
So many parts, so many details, so many forming sheets….it has the same assembly process as a normal car… amazing how things were well made back there.
Испытал наслаждение, как и всегда.

Amazing restoration! I love the red but it would have been nicer to have it painted pink again 🥰
Thanks a lot
One of your best restoration videos! Thanks for sharing.
N.C. sure likes his new wheels! Great job
Such a joy to watch such talent in action!xx
🙏🏻
Wow from Canada. What a beautiful restoration. I'd be willing to bet that it looks 100% better than when it was brand new. I think the best part was the nitrate coating. Until now, I had never heard of it. Exceptional workmanship by all involved in its restoration.
Thanks sir 🙏🏻
Absolutely superb
AS much as A child would like to ride it, please don't let them, this superb restoration should go to a toy museum where it can be enjoyed for years to come, tip top work, it deserves to stay as you have restored it, wonderful work👍👍👍👍👍.
From Canada. It is obvious to me that you do not lack any skill in restorations. An unbelievable end result! Your attention to the smallest details is fantastic. You take your time, and it shows. Keep it up and I’ll keep watching!
Thanks sir
Watching your video is better than any ASMR video... Every time, your manage to surprise me by the devotion you put into giving this old objects a new life while respecting their authenticity! Great job, bravo 👏👏👏
Thank you sir
Every single piece and detail : perfection!
I think it's BETTER than a perfect restoration. I'm betting it is more beautiful than the day it was brought home from the toy store.
thanks a lot

Amazed and really jealous of your skills and workshop 😁
Idk why but watching your videos always help me get my mind off things. That’s a really cool pedal car though. Good work, per usual.

As an antique collector, I'd keep it with all the patina. Yet, I'm really looking forward to your restoration!
When the child first got this, it didn't look like this. And the child would have been mesmerized and ecstatic. As we say, "Much, MUCH better than new!" Great Job!
I'll stop. I think I am going to cry....
Браво мастер, прекрасная работа! С удовольствием смотрел весь процесс реставрации! Успеха Вам!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Unbelievable!! Had I not watched the entire process from start to finish I would have sworn that these were two entirely different cars. I salute you and your craftsmanship. You have taken a rusty piece of junk and not only restored it but transformed it into a collector's piece of art. You are indeed a master at your craft.
thank you so much sir
Should have had the super sport logo on it, the only thing that was
missing Everything else was awesomeness.
Fine touch to the detail, GOOD JOB
Great work!
You did a fantastic restoration. However, I’m not sure if you knew this or not but the pink Cadillac is iconic Americana. Should have kept it pink.
What man wants to do a pink car
I would ride it myself ! That was a perfect restoration dear sir !
Ι wish you painted that beauty pink again. I'd love to see that in original baby pink. Red is too common. AMAZING JOB nevertheless... AWESOME!!!!
The most beautiful buick 1952. Thank You for sharing.
Still the best restoration channel on YT! Always a pleasure to watch. Totally blown away every time but, this restoration was next level.
Thank you so much
@@meinemechaniker Credit where it's due. I've been watching your channel for about 3 years! Seriously, you do the best work IMHO!
Stunning work

Absolutely perfect! I'm now 30 minutes late to a birthday party but I couldn't stop watching to the end.
🤗😅🙏🏻
WOW! You are a perfectionist. Very lucky is the kid who gets to own it.
Que hermoso. Tu trabajo me da alegría 🤗
Speechless - stunning restoration, looks amazing. Love the hour long programme too - many thanks 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks sir
Only missing detail is the "Super sport" decal on the side.
I've not seen the silver nitrate process before, but I like the results!
I watched the entire video. Amazing restoration and skills.
Thanks sir
That was a massive restoration. It was a great team effort. I thought the tires and the pedals couldn't be used so that was surprising. The rubber must have been very good to excellent quality. I liked the making of the seat best. Thank you for the video.
Müthiş bir çalışma ... Ayakta alkışlıyorum değerli sanatçımızı...
Merci beaucoup monsieur 🙏🏻
Stunning Restore ..............................
Sweet ride for N.C.!
It is beautiful restoration of a classic child’s toy. I hope it finds its way to a museum of children’s toys some day.
You cant hide the fact that you are professional and most likely work on restoring real cars. The amount of professionalism shows and the detail and paint moves are definitely of a person who has worked in the trade for many years. I dont have to tel you that the toy came out spectacularly. Anyway great video!
Thank you much sir 🙏🏻
The most over the top amazing restoration I have ever seen. AMAZING! I'm ashamed at my own repair skills and this video is going to inspire me to do way better!
thanks sir
Beautiful work
