I had my first ever experience with Diablo with the Diablo 4 open beta and it made me curious about the rest of the series and what it’s all about, so this definitely was nice to hear about each individual entry from someone who played it all
If you like diablo 4 and can stomach older games diablo 2 is literally the best game in this entire genre, everyone else is just trying to copy it and it's still on top after 23 years of other games being developed specifically to be better
@@PeachDragon_ I’m thinking about grabbing it. It’s on sale right now for like $13 so it’s tempting, just unsure whether I’ll finish in time for 4 or if playing that might burn me out once 4 comes around

I agree with ARPG collector. You really should try D2 or D2R at some point. It's definitely a complex game to get a full handle of on your own, but it's likely the best of the series for how it perfected the ideas from Diablo 1. 23 years later and it's still a game being played avidly, and many modern ARPGs are being compared to still today for good reason
Love D2r on Xbox. It’s kind of a bummer for the D4 makers though. It’s going to have to be an epic game to compare. I doubt it will be as long lived. The developers and more importantly the company around them are just not the same kind of people. They should have brought Brevik back in.
@@hecanseeme8210unfortunately not. after going into D4 i can simply never go back to diablo 2. i tried it again yesterday for the first time since the release of 4 and it honestly just feels embarrassing in comparison. to be totally fair i did the same with 3 and it was exponentially more embarrassing than 2 could’ve ever been. diablo 4 is essentially just verging on masterpiece. there are some kinks i’d love to be fixed to achieve that title but the foundation is unbelievably solid.
The experience of playing diablo 2 online as kid was mind-blowing to me. Back in 2001 the internet was still new But even the experience of playing diablo 1 before that was crazy. The game felt massive and complex compared to most other games of its time. I'm glad I was a kid in the late 90s early 2000s
Yep. I turn 31 in november so I know what you mean. Playing diablo 2 as a kid was wild. I made a necromancer offline originally. I didn't fully grasp the systems in the game but I managed to find corpse explosion. I had a clay golem, bone walls, corpse explosion. I threw poison at duriel to kill him. I couldn't kill Diablo at the time because there weren't any corpses and he would just smack me up. I later would play battle net early ladders religiouslt as a kid, along with cs 1.6 and runescape as my holy trinity. Good times of the EARLY internet!
@@derekgreen7319the World Wide Web was invented over 20 years ago. I doubt that's relatively new to anyone unless they're being melodramatic about their age or something 😂😂
wow... I actually watched the whole thing in one seating. :) I started my Diablo-days 1996, bought the game of a friend who thought it was too scary. (Still got the original box) I laughed at him, went home, installed it, and I think I pooped my pants 10 times before I even killed my first skeleton..turned it off and called my friend to come over and play together, Diablo was really the shit! I was unfortunately one of those cheaters online (I really hate my own self back then) anyhow.. still love the diablo series, I havent played immortal and I probably wont, Diablo 4 will be interesting. Great video man! After I watched it I could only think of why I just can't have simple fun as I did back when i was 12 - 18 years old. We as adults take games too seriously. We need to find our inner kid and just PLAY. See you in sanctuary.
just found this video and can safely say that you've made a subscriber out of me. the quality of this project and the clear amount of effort that had been out into it makes your current sub count CRIMINAL. you deserve so much more, thank you for putting out content
One other difference between the classes in Diablo 1 is their animations. It might sound weird, but a warrior will swing his sword more times per second than a rogue or mage.
@AngelofThe Past This. The animations were pretty much what defined the classes, which means that people who actually played the different classes soon developed a "feel" that the characters were different way before someone took the time to actually figure the animations out frame by frame. Rogues shoot bows faster than other classes, Warriors swing swords faster than other classes and Sorcerers can cast spells faster than other classes. The difference between a warrior casting a spell and a sorcerer casting a spell is definitely noticeable - the warrior does his little stance where he raises his weapon parallel to his body as if concentrating, while all the sorcerer does is raise his arms. This is important because it means the difference between a Sorcerer out-casting enemies with spells like Holy Bolt (allowing the Sorcerer to potentially stunlock Diablo where other classes couldn't, for example) or Rogues using the Bow of the Bear effectively.
Yeah, I don't think the author of this video spent too much time in the first Diablo. I would not ever say 'Oswald' but he did it twice. Animation times is another thing. Attribute caps are essential to gameplay but he only briefly mentioned those. Also personally, I wouldn't have failed to mention the gold holding limit, i.e. one cannot buy the best items in the shops which is daft.😂
@marcinjackowski8898 because in comparison, the other games make diablo 1 look like a walk in the park. When you compare diablo 1 to 2, diablo 2 is a much bigger game. He spends more time on each game as the video progresses. He never really dives into deep mechanics like how the warrior swings the sword faster, nor does he dive into the mechanics of the other games.
Diablo was formative to me as a kid. I was 10 when my parents got Diablo 1 and to this day my very name, "Bird of Terror" is the name I gave myself on Lord of Destruction when I killed Diablo with a bunch of ravens on my druid. It formed a lot of my creative adulthood.
I was excited about Diablo 4 and bought two for my 17 year old granddaughter and myself because she loves video games! We played together but she quit last week. She wasn't interested and although it brought us together I suspect the game was the problem. I'm 77 so I hope we can find another game to play together or Diablo 4 will have significant updates.
The thing that’s so intoxicating about the original Diablo franchise is that there is so much attention to detail. Although everything about the game runs contrary to everything you’ve ever known, and the imagery is so scary, you just can’t help but be addicted because of all the love poured into every little detail.
Regarding 37:22 the act IV blacksmith - one has to take in account that Act IV was never finished, due to running out of time for a deadline. Hence the reason it has 3 quests instead of 6. Pretty sure this was confirmed in some interview as well by the OG devs.
The dark riders in d1 were part of the plot as to why the remaining people were stuck in Tristram. Several of the gossip chats say theyre out there and raid caravans, even the magic rock quest.
Same.. was super hyped for Diablo III, even built a brand new PC at the time. Then I played it. It's not Diablo to me. I stick with the first two games.
Diablo 2 was my first entry into the arpg genre as a kid and it shaped my gaming views. While d3 was flashy it never brought the same joy and lacked imagination from a gameplay spectacle. But damn was d3 visually pleasing
The sims bit at 28:45 made me literally LOL. Ive seriously waited so long for someone to cover all Diablos in a meaty retrospective video. Thank you so much for this, its great so far.
My guy, the fact you needed to give the public service announcement about how you're NOT going to be picking over the bad stuff is, in and of itself, evidence that there ARE bad installments in this series. Good on you for not trying to take sides. Great work in total.
I'm old enough to have enjoyed Diablo 1 (1996) when it first came out and no other game has had the same impact on me. The gothic art style, the dark & depressing realism, that AMAZING MOOD SETTING MUSIC! from Tristrams more calm but ominous melodies to The Monastery dungeons and below the music feets deeper and deeper into the darkness. AMAZING! What about how great all the enemies look, those succubus eh? 😜 Not to mention how amazing the sound FX are when hitting them followed by their Gorey death animations. Just a brilliant game.
Yeah, Diablo 1 was the best in atmosphere. Diablo 2 was a huge disappointment, at the time I thought they had Disneyfied the game. 90's adult games just hit different I guess, my other favorite was Postal.
When I was about 6 years old I'd watch my uncle play Diablo 1 on the family computer. Great memories. I'm excited to finally start a Diablo game from day 1 with D4.
Man I'm with you there. As a young teen I had to skip the intro because it was genuinely terrifying due to it's atmosphere. The game still stands up today and will always remain my favourite Dark, Gothis rogue-like Rpg.
Recently replayed Diablo 1. It's even more fun than when I was a child, and it's all due to the atmosphere. No other game out there manages to deliver the same feel diablo 1 does. And I really missed that feel. They did allot with little.
One very important thing about diablo 2 you left our is that the balancing of loot was just top notch, which meant even magic items could be l more valuable than unique, if they rolled right, which meant that no lot felt truly useless
When D1 came out, D&D was not at 3rd edition yet, where you started getting a stat point every 4 levels. Back in the AD&D days you allocated your stats and that was it, no more from levels.
I must say - the level of quality, depth and information formulated here was pure joy to listen to and admirable. I deeply thank you for this video, I honestly feel like your a blood-brother of mine who shares his love for Diablo. I may not agree with everything, but I loved to hear opinions or perspectives that I do not share to broaden my own view. You even reigned my desire to play Diablo 3 RoS in its current form (even tho I hate D3 mainly for story, visual, itemization and dumbed down character building ie. stats, but also I can never forgive them for killing Deckard Cain with pathetic butterflies). With all that said - thank you, truly. This has been by far the best retrospective I've listed to (and lately I've gotten into listening to a lot of them).
Damn i thought this was a video made by a big youtuber that i just stumbled upon after playing a bit of Diablo 4, 1 hour into the video i notice you only have 7.13k Subs, you deserve way more!
Jesus christ what an amazing video. i never played diablo 1 and 2 so learning so much about all of these games was a really great experience. thanks so much for making this.
Watched the whole thing in one go ( and concentration is a tricky business for me). so very in-depth, I love it. And a well done narrative. Can't wait for the Diablo 4 continuation.
My favorite parts of this video were you injecting your own childhood/life events, like playing Diablo in the backyard, fighting Baal and having the clone spawn, or playing D3 on a tiny ass TV with a VHS player (totally can relate). But other than those hilarious moments you covered everything really well and if I had an award to give you it would be best youtube video of a restrospective of the diablo series award.
Cant say how many times id thro this vid on @ night in bed & fall asleep 2 it cramin all the diablo lore & intricacies so i can enjoy another playthrough of D2 & D3, hardcore Mode, Beatin each difficulty wit each character, findin ways 2 enjoy every part of each game... gr8 wrk bro, keep doin wut ya do...
This is so interesting, I played Diablo back when i was like 10 and now Diablo 4 got me back into the genre! This is some of my favorite lore in video games.
In diablo 3, your build is only limited by what set bonuses your gear gives. Ie if your set bonus gives 500% damage increase to shield bash that’s the only build you will use because it does wayyyyyy more damage than anything else.
Only twenty minutes in but I am loving this video. Thank you for your work. I've been thinking about playing d1 but have been indecisive. The game's age isn't a problem but I didn't know how much I could gain from playing it compared to D2 which I already have played a ton. You're definitely selling how good D1 is.
I don't agree with your praise for the exponential growth in D3. The only items that matter are the ones that make your specific skills exponentially more powerful. Legendary items and set items are all you care about (even then you're usually stuck with only a few items that actually help you go into higher rifts so everything else doesn't matter). Every other kind of item you throw away because none of them will give you useful stats. They're not going to help you. And you literally can not progress through rifts without your gear. You are entirely useless unless you have good items. In D2 on Hell, you aren't reliant on your gear. It certainly helps and makes things easier but you can get through the challenge. You can progress through the game with rough gear but when you finally find a really good item that enhances your build, it feels amazing. The enemies and how you play actually mean something, too. There are enemies you are going to be weak against stats-wise and how they attack/behave. There are enemies that you can't even kill depending on your build and you learn how to play around them. Every enemy in D3 is insignificant. You play the same way you would against each of them and all that matters is you killing things quickly enough.
I would recommend looking into something like the Belzebub HD mod for Diablo 1. This mod does add stuff and I don't know if you can turn the additions off, but one of the major points of pain in Diablo 1 that I would HIGHLY recommend modding out is that originally you had to click the mouse for every single attack and every single movement. There was no holding the mouse button to continue attacking or continue moving, we just didn't have that feature back in the Diablo 1 days. That being said, it is a fantastic game and it has a much darker, more forboding atmosphere. I liked the Belzebub mod because it makes the UI a bit easier to manage, it does add stuff that expands the game (since I've played it a lot) but it also re-adds content that was cut from the original release of the game, and it adds a few additional class abilities to make the characters feel a bit more specialized.
Well this was pretty good and unexpected. I appreciate the work you did to make this video and its quality. I look forward to seeing what else you come up with and watching your backlog of videos! Keep up the good work!
I watched this over the course of about a week, almost like a podcast 😂. Thanks for all the effort in catching me up in the series outside of the story/lore
I was 6 when i first started playing d3 base with my dad (who played d2 growing up). Ive been playing, albeit intermittently, ever since and even after playing the d2 remake and d4, d3 RoS will always be my comfortable favorite and makes me nostalgic for those times playing with my dad growing up
Oh man I'm so relieved to know I'm not the only one who's always laughed when hearing that dude. It's just over the top and random as hell. I knew it was supposed to be sad but the delivery of the line is just hilarious.
It's wierd how in the Diablo III section you didn't bring up the Auction House, the reason why loot drops were so horrible to begin with. It was a crucial part of the situation that is missing in your reflection.
Agreed, an absolutely crucial part of the series' history. Therefore, giving credence to the console version of Diablo 3, which due to lack of auction house had tremendous loot quality drops. With how positively received that was by the fans, it marked the end of the auction house by Blizzard. But perhaps, this was before the Activision merger.
Reaper took care of the mistakes of the auction house, though I was waiting for that too. Once all that level 60 gear was worthless when 61 started dropping was good.
Only ever played diablo 2 and that was years ago but this video makes me want to find my discs and play it again. I'm glad youtubes algorithm suggested this video.
diablo immoral had good gameplay for a mobile game. and in some aspects more to do then diablo 3. but it wasn't just the microtransactions that made me upset, it was the mental gymnastics they pulled to make you "want" to spend money. want the free daily chest? cool, scroll through all the 800% off deals you'll be missing to get to it and only receive trash items.
I'm about 3 quarters of the way through this video and really enjoying it. I haven't played any Diablo except maybe 20 or so hours of D3, but this was still so fascinating.
I was there in the beginning, 10,000 years ago😶. lol. I was 26 when Diablo came out. Only one of my friends had a p.c. and he let me and 2 others create characters on the game. Later when my daughter, at the age of 7 was having problems with math, I taught her how to play D2. Her math skills got better pretty fast😁.
I think the issue with post-D2 games (and even D2 in it's later years) is the concept that all content is there to be experienced by all players. It's like when people complain about there being too many Korok seeds in Zelda, they're not there for one person to find all of them, they're there for all players to find enough of them. What this means is that instead of Hell difficulty being the end-game of Diablo 2, the fight with Baal is the end of Diablo 2, and Nightmare and Hell are there for people who just want more. Same with the extra dialogue between quest updates, easter eggs like the secret cow level, and insanely powerful and rare item drops. This would be fine in any other series, but I think the proximity to WoW and Starcraft really did a number on the perception of Diablo as a series. Instead of an adventure ARPG, people saw a system to min-max, and they ended up ruining it, just like they optimized the fun out of MMOs. Diablo 4 has so many decisions in it that seem contrary to the first two games, stuff like turning the overworlds into linear "outdoor dungeons", taking away the ability to manage your own potion belt or needing to identify items, and starting out the Necromancer with 4 skeletons right off the bat, and it's because Diablo has turned into a game about mastering systems and consuming content like a swarm of locusts, and not actually experiencing the game. This really hit home when I tried out D2 Resurrected, I was really excited to hear they'd changed almost nothing, but what that meant is they'd kept it the same as it was in 2010. As soon as I started playing online, normal difficulty, not on hardcore, people were dogging me for not playing best in slot items or skills. The idea of playing your own character and making your own adventure went out the window with a real world economy and the expectation that the game is there to be devoured, not enjoyed.
Hey @angelOfThePast , I've actually watched this, in it's entirety, twice over. I absolutely loved the content, the narration, and I an shocked that you don't have hundreds of thousands of followers. Of the few subs I have, following your work with all notitfications on and loving your content, the points of view, and the odd joke here and there :) Good luck with your much deserved rise!
Great video! The only thing I thought was missing, was the fact that part of the hate for Diablo: Immortal was that we hadn’t gotten anything official for Diablo in some time. We wanted a Diablo 4 announcement and got a mobile game with no plan of a PC client.
Hey! I didn't even knew of your existence 2 hours ago. Watched your second most viewed video ever (btw it was so good that I had to replay some of the things you said just to really comprehend them and appreciate the complexity and the quality of them), tought to myself "what a great video!" and went on to see more! Maybe I didn't heard quite right, but I was actually craving for more of the lore and another video of this type on kenshi, but there's none other. No problem! I was then intrigued by the 1000 video that you made... and you've gained a new fan for life. That video was AWESOME!!! From the bottom of my heart this was great! I'm looking forward for the growth of your channel and the growth of your dream! Also, seen that you didn't upload in the past 4 months since 5 days ago, hope that the wedding you went was great and the new place you moved to is a perfect fit for you! Going to bed now and I'll be watching your whole 2 hours and a half content on diablo tomorrow! See you in my next comment!😉
I never played D1 so It's very funny to find out the "fresh meat" line originates there. I heard it in Roblox when I was young and have always wondered where it came from.
Great vid, man. As a veteran of D2 I share most of your points. And now, with D4 out and a couple of weeks old, I think it'd be awesome if you made a video about it and how it makes a lot of the same mistakes as D3.
I just started the video and was refreshed to hear your perspective of liking every game, even if you don’t agree with everything in every installment. My younger brothers had purchased D2 for our terrible PC and I couldn’t get into it, mainly due to the isometric camera angle. I’m usually not a “graphics are god” type of gamer, but the graphics at the time didn’t help endear me to the game. However, I bought D3 on an Xbox Live sale and loved it! Played during the D4 open beta and have pre-ordered the game. Needless to say, imma watch all 2+ hours of this video ✊🏻
Absolutely amazing video, felt like a walk down memory lane. Although I enjoyed my time with D3 my heart still remains with 1 and 2. Thank you for the hard work you put into this vid. EZ sub choice, looking forward to more nerdy stuff!
Great video! One of the best Diablo retrospectives on YT! Lore wise (not a critique, just take it constructively), I just want to mention that D1, D2 and D3 do have consistency in regards to the story. Leoric had 2 sons: Albrecht, the young prince that was abducted, and Aidan ("The warrior" character), the older son who returns in Tristram from the on-going war in Westmarch. Set up by Lazarus, Diablo awakens within Albrecht and it's defeated by Aidan, who then becomes "The Wanderer" in D2 to try and contain Diablo's essence. Aidan / The Wanderer DOES "visit" Adria, thus Leah is later born... Unfortunately, the D3 cutscenes don't do justice to the lore in the books :( "The Order" does explain how Leah was raised by Cain and the ordeals they went through, it does not make sense for her not to believe him. And yes, there no sense for Cain to have died during D3. Looking forward to your D4 analysis, after the full release.
When I was investigating, I couldn’t find any reference that the warrior was Aiden until D3. Is there a book that announced this before hand? Also no don’t worry about giving criticism. As long as someone doesn’t outright lie or insult my integrity, I love hearing anything anyone has to say about a game.
@@AngelOfThePast Diablo 3 is the first iteration of Aiden. If I remember there was a Blizzcon in '07 where Metzen (could be another writer) explains it. As for the story, it is an amazing tragedy that uses mythological elements to weave a meaningful story. I would say that without that 10/10 story many people would not have remember and enjoyed the games as much as they have. I have a few videos about it on my channel where I go through the manual and the intro cinematic to the game: these videos go further in analyzing what makes the story so good.
Okay, something I have to say about Chris Metzen- The dude pre-World of Warcraft (and even after WoW but mainly prior to WoW as there was a long hiatus in Blizzard games that were hugely narrative) was a world building GENIUS. A legend. You might think that the story and lore of Diablo was fleshed out with Diablo 2, but you'd be wrong. The scope of what they could tell inside of the game had evolved, but Chris Metzen didn't half ass games that he worked on narratively. The Horadrim capturing the three Prime Evils using soulstones given to them by the Archangel Tyrael, Baal's stone being shattered in the process, and Tal Rasha using himself as an additional means of containment to counteract this were all actually IN THE DIABLO 1 MANUAL. This dude wrote the names of angels and demons that we wouldn't even see in Diablo 1. He drew concept art for Izual falling from heaven (back when angels were literally imagined as angels from Christian faith). Chris Metzen was basically the face of every narrative that Blizzard wrote. If you asked him to work on the narrative for a game, he didn't just do the narrative for the game. The man wrote entire lore bibles on what the history of that world was. I don't know the full extent of the lore that he wrote, but it seems like he pretty much had the ideas down from the very beginning which just blows my fucking mind.
Never played Diablo in my life. I was born after the series was even created but as a gamer, I have been fascinated by the lore, especially from Dark Lore Dash's videos. I bought and played Grim Dawn in 2021 based on how so many folks said it was a spiritual successor to the franchise and I lveo it so much I have logged over 500 hours playing it.
Noice! GD indeed is the spiritual succesor to D2 when it comes to mechnics and gameplay. I'm also one preaching that xD (grew up with D1 and D2) Nice to hear, that you joined the club, welcome
After finishing the D4 Open Beta I was craving more Diablo so I went to Immortal to see the story and then this video popped into my recommended list. I read most of the Diablo novels that came with and after Diablo 3 (except Book of Adria) and my Reaper of Souls experienced was enhanced by it. I also grew up with Diablo, although I played the first one in 1998 then Diablo II in 2001-2002 for 1-2 years then I jumped into WoW in 2005 and forgot other games existed for a very long time since I was so enraptured with it..until the announcement of Diablo 3 of course. So thank you for the big retrospective video on this legendary franchise.
my dad sat me on his knee at age three with diablo II set up on the home PC, it was the first video game i ever played and i racked up 100s of hours between age 5 and 12 and still play today
I'm not even all the way through yet but then nostalgia is killing me you did so good on this I played battlenet on Diablo 1 when it first dropped when duping became a problem
As a hardcore long time fan of Blizzard and Diablo, I did the one thing all Diablo fans must do. I moved straight to Path of Exile, where I still haven't gotten bored for a second and also skipped Diablo Immortal ENTIRELY. Diablo 4 was ok
Diablo 3 may have been simplified with consoles in mind, however it defenitly did NOT have a simoultanious release with pc, it only came to consoles a year or so later
2:02:30 I can confirm I ONLY JUST found out Diablo immortal is on pc. That literal epic "do you guys not have phones?" Was all I needed to lose any loose interest I had in that game. The smug arrogance of current day blizzard is truly another level. Thanks for making the video ❤ it convinced me to just this moment pick up Diablo 2 resurrected on my xbox coz it's on sale, you've given me renewed interest in the series 😊 And that's coming from a casual who only really played some of D2 on my friends pc in the mid 2000's, and bought D3 base and reaper of souls on release.
I hope you liked the video! If you did make sure to leave a like and make sure to let me know which DIablo was your favorite and why in the comments ^o^

@@PeachDragon_ I’m thinking about grabbing it. It’s on sale right now for like $13 so it’s tempting, just unsure whether I’ll finish in time for 4 or if playing that might burn me out once 4 comes around
@@grantcactus9973 2 will absolutely ruin 4 for you because 4 is just a pale imitation, if you want to enjoy both play 4 then 2, don't worry about spoilers the story isn't that relevant or connected
@@grantcactus9973 also i should mention that 4 has all the bells and whistles of modern games so it is more accessible, it might ease you into 2
I agree with ARPG collector.
This was great. Diablo 2 was my childhood. And continues to be my adulthood.
God bless D2 Resurrected. I have one play-through on ps4, and one of the original D2 on a apple power mac G5.
Love D2r on Xbox. It’s kind of a bummer for the D4 makers though. It’s going to have to be an epic game to compare. I doubt it will be as long lived. The developers and more importantly the company around them are just not the same kind of people. They should have brought Brevik back in.
Im so happy they didn't f d4 up. They did exactly what they should, ignored d3 and improved on d2
I used to play diablo on my grampas windows 95 desktop. That was my jam
The experience of playing diablo 2 online as kid was mind-blowing to me. Back in 2001 the internet was still new
But even the experience of playing diablo 1 before that was crazy. The game felt massive and complex compared to most other games of its time. I'm glad I was a kid in the late 90s early 2000s
yeah but you didn't grow up with Club Penguin so you lost out my man
Internet was not new in 2001 lol. I was in 1at grade and 1996 and they were allready teaching us how to use the internet, 5 years prior
@@trollinu7494 new is a relative term. Not to mention the data regarding how many homes had internet. But I'm sure you think that you're smart lol.
Diablo 2 was much bigger, esp if u include the xpac. And the animation is right, but the archer shoots bow faster than the warrior as well
Diablo was formative to me as a kid. I was 10 when my parents got Diablo 1 and to this day my very name, "Bird of Terror" is the name I gave myself on Lord of Destruction when I killed Diablo with a bunch of ravens on my druid. It formed a lot of my creative adulthood.
The music in Diablo 1 still makes me happy.
You seem like a rad grandparent. I hope you find that too.
Check out Grim Dawn. Well-written lore, nice depth for builds etc. It's equal to Diablo 2 for me: plus a third expansion is coming in 2024.
Awesome you play Diablo 4 at your age, will you play vessel of hatred? if so I’ll see you there👍
The thing that’s so intoxicating about the original Diablo franchise is that there is so much attention to detail. Although everything about the game runs contrary to everything you’ve ever known, and the imagery is so scary, you just can’t help but be addicted because of all the love poured into every little detail.
Plus the story telling imo is pretty good, I love how well good the VAs are especially in 4
The sound effects are very visceral and realistic as well it's something i notice and enjoy every time I play Diablo 2
Regarding 37:22 the act IV blacksmith - one has to take in account that Act IV was never finished, due to running out of time for a deadline. Hence the reason it has 3 quests instead of 6. Pretty sure this was confirmed in some interview as well by the OG devs.
They also missed a huge chance to have Griswold be the smith.
They made up for it with act 5 later on, though
The dark riders in d1 were part of the plot as to why the remaining people were stuck in Tristram. Several of the gossip chats say theyre out there and raid caravans, even the magic rock quest.
I was so excited for D3 when it came out. played till Cain died. turned my laptop off and didn't touch the game for 3 months. I was very Very upset.
WELL DONT WORRY HES BACK IN IMMORTAL.....smh what have they done
@@MyNameIsGhost immortal is before D3, basically D3 is the characters fault lmao
You really missed out, diablo 3 first play through was so sick.
Same.. was super hyped for Diablo III, even built a brand new PC at the time. Then I played it. It's not Diablo to me. I stick with the first two games.
Nothing like getting killed by a fucking moth people who thought Joel's death was disrespectful have never played diablo.
Diablo 2 was my first entry into the arpg genre as a kid and it shaped my gaming views. While d3 was flashy it never brought the same joy and lacked imagination from a gameplay spectacle. But damn was d3 visually pleasing
Diablo 1 and 2 w lod those visuals are soo pretty with the armor I miss it man the first two just hit different
The sims bit at 28:45 made me literally LOL. Ive seriously waited so long for someone to cover all Diablos in a meaty retrospective video. Thank you so much for this, its great so far.
NGL this is one of the best video essays I have ever watched. Long form 2 hour + discussion is exactly what I love. Great work!
My guy, the fact you needed to give the public service announcement about how you're NOT going to be picking over the bad stuff is, in and of itself, evidence that there ARE bad installments in this series. Good on you for not trying to take sides. Great work in total.
What a god tier critique. Left me wanting more thanks man. Great college fuel for me
I'm old enough to have enjoyed Diablo 1 (1996) when it first came out and no other game has had the same impact on me.
Same here!! Got to play it when it released. I was hogging the computer so much lol
Bro who needs netflix with this awesome content, thanks.

This is so interesting, I played Diablo back when i was like 10 and now Diablo 4 got me back into the genre! This is some of my favorite lore in video games.
as soon as i saw your diablo immortal gameplay i just KNEW you had spent a LOT of money on it.
In diablo 3, your build is only limited by what set bonuses your gear gives. Ie if your set bonus gives 500% damage increase to shield bash that’s the only build you will use because it does wayyyyyy more damage than anything else.
Damn. The time given to this is amazing. This is THE definitive diablo retrospective.
Bravo sir! Bravo.
I have never played diablo but im excited to know about this beloved series!
Ive been playing, albeit intermittently, ever since and even after playing the d2 remake and d4, d3 RoS will always be my comfortable favorite and makes me nostalgic for those times playing with my dad growing up
"I tried to protect Marko but now he's DEAD!" That line always made me lol
Look! I see more hidden footprints!
Fantastic video! I’ve recently begun replaying the Diablo games and this video made a perfect companion piece. Keep up the great work!

diablo immoral had good gameplay for a mobile game. and in some aspects more to do then diablo 3. but it wasn't just the microtransactions that made me upset, it was the mental gymnastics they pulled to make you "want" to spend money. want the free daily chest? cool, scroll through all the 800% off deals you'll be missing to get to it and only receive trash items.
Appreciate your sense of humor and your love for the games ❤
I'm about 3 quarters of the way through this video and really enjoying it. I haven't played any Diablo except maybe 20 or so hours of D3, but this was still so fascinating.
I loved Cain. I’m old enough to have played the original when it came out in my early teens. Very nostalgic I love this series
Great video! As a current DI player I REALLY enjoyed your take on it - gonna watch it again!
Let’s go D4!
👍👍
Did not expect to watch this whole thing! Well written and produced.

My younger brothers had purchased D2 for our terrible PC and I couldn’t get into it, mainly due to the isometric camera angle. I’m usually not a “graphics are god” type of gamer, but the graphics at the time didn’t help endear me to the game.

I remember playing Diablo 1 on my gateway pc and my ps1. Truly magical times. No diablo since has touched the terrifying atmosphere of the first game.
Unfortunately, the D3 cutscenes don't do justice to the lore in the books :(
"The Order" does explain how Leah was raised by Cain and the ordeals they went through, it does not make sense for her not to believe him.
Wow dude this is a masterpiece! Good work! How long did you work on this???

Amazing, I’m subbed and and looking forward to more of your long format videos
First video seen of yours and just amazing man if you haven’t seen this start to finish DO IT!
Thanks for showing the proposal for Diablo 1. I've never seen it before and it's cool how you referred to it.
I'm not even all the way through yet but then nostalgia is killing me you did so good on this I played battlenet on Diablo 1 when it first dropped when duping became a problem
Your hatred for Adria is most likely the funniest thing that the Diablo series ever created lmao. Great retrospect as well
As a hardcore long time fan of Blizzard and Diablo, I did the one thing all Diablo fans must do. I moved straight to Path of Exile, where I still haven't gotten bored for a second and also skipped Diablo Immortal ENTIRELY. Diablo 4 was ok
Who would’ve thought that series titled DEVIL and Devil May Cry could get so huge? 😂👍🏼
Really nice video I enjoyed it quite a bit and loved your commentary
Diablo 3 may have been simplified with consoles in mind, however it defenitly did NOT have a simoultanious release with pc, it only came to consoles a year or so later
Just commenting for the spit around 25 minutes. I laughed so hard I almost spit water all over my desk, keyboard, and monitors. Thank you.
Loved the little hint of character freedom with the image of Ra 'merica' skin from Smite 🤣
2:02:30 I can confirm I ONLY JUST found out Diablo immortal is on pc.
That literal epic "do you guys not have phones?" Was all I needed to lose any loose interest I had in that game.
The smug arrogance of current day blizzard is truly another level.
Thanks for making the video ❤ it convinced me to just this moment pick up Diablo 2 resurrected on my xbox coz it's on sale, you've given me renewed interest in the series 😊
And that's coming from a casual who only really played some of D2 on my friends pc in the mid 2000's, and bought D3 base and reaper of souls on release.
Great informative video dude…thank you… looking forward to D IV video😊
Just want to say, I’m the person who didn’t know Immortal was on PC too… it was me. Sorry everyone, my bad!
