  • Homo provides audiences with an opportunity to hear first hand accounts of queer people and their families' homophobic experiences. I want audiences from all kinds of backgrounds to have some perspective and insight into the ever pressing discrimination and general homophobic experiences of a diverse range of queer people. As it turned out my film provoked some strong emotions from school staff.
My ambition was to complete my short documentary, Homo to be screened at my school's Arts and Technology Showcase. I was informed by the Head of the Art Department that my film had 'no artistic merit' and that it would be 'offensive to families and the school community' who would be attending the evening, therefore may not be screened.
The series of issues surrounding arts night highlighted the discrimination and stigma that unfortunately still exists, even in schools which purport to be a safe place? The drama surrounding my film was a huge motivating factor for me to get it screened to a wider audience. It was seleted to be exhibited at Midsumma's Australia Post Art Prize 2016, which prompted an article in The Age newspaper. "Homo" will be exhibited at the Bendigo Queer Country Exhibition in April 2016.

What makes homophobes tik ? I’ll never understand and they don’t take the trouble to think themselves and explain.

Homophobia Biphobia Transphobia, it's all so pathetic I wish people would leave LGBTQ people alone!! Me n my trans partner have been through the barrage as well, it's so annoying that certain people think I'm trans as well, I'm not, I'm a sis female. If people dont like it look away. Simple. End of. ❤❤😊😊 Oh n Happy Pride Season to all.
