    That 35 f 1.8 just looks right with the a7C- it's a winning combo. When travelling the zooms do come in handy though. Hard to zoom with your feet when you are at the edge of a cliff.

    • @DylanBlackburn
      @DylanBlackburn  2 роки тому +4

      Agreed. Gonna stick with the 35mm 1.8 for a while! Okay the edge of a cliff is the exception! Just imagining changing lenses on the edge and accidentally dropping is terrifying..

      I agree. When you are trying to make "Art" in an environnement you know, I think prime lenses are what you need. As soon as you travel and you find yourself in an environnement you don't know I think a good zoom lens is very useful.

    I just went to Europe with my a7c and only brought the sigma 24-70 2.8. not a small lens but loved it.

      When traveling I use that Sigma lens with my a7c too! Great lens. I wonder sometimes if it would be better to use a 35mm prime and a 70-180mm lens as a travel combo. Weight and compactness of your kit is critical

    While I love my 35 and 85 when doing photography "just for me", the Tam 28-200 is *brilliant* when you're at the zoo or park with the kiddos -- you don't know if you're gonna get a classic 35mm frame or a 135mm portrait.

    I have 2 zooms and 2 primes. I shoot apsc. Sony 10-20/4 (15-30/5.6), Sigma 18-50/2.8 (18-70/3.5), Sigma 30/1.4 (45/1.8), and Sigma 56/1.4 (86/1.8). I want to move toward all primes, but the standard zoom comes in handy at times when working with clients.

    Awesome! I'm picking up the Sigma 16-28 tomorrow and still debating between the 35 1.8 and 55 1.8 as a light prime to go with it. I have the Tamron 28-75 G2 and 85 1.8, but really want a wider prime that will allow me to use the 16-28 as an everyday lens.

    • @DylanBlackburn

      Have a look at all your Tamron 28-75mm pictures. Did you capture more at 35mm or at 55mm? I have the sigma 28-70mm for traveling and the 55mm is my edc. Autofokus is incredibly fast.

    Man, I hate switching lenses.. I seem to always get dust on the sensor in the process. Seriously considering a two lens setup with the Tamaron 35-150 f2-2.8 and 17-28 f2.8 (or Sony 16-35 f4) and be done with it.

    gran video hermano..! yo tengo el lente kit de la a7c, y hace 1 mes compre el lente 50 mm 1.2 gm, y es cierto que aunque sea compacto, se me hace mucho más pesado y visible, y estaba pensando en adquirir 24mm 2.8 que es uno más pequeño y el 85mm 1.8, en fin gran video, sigue así..

    Must be extremely hard trying to take some decent photos but at the same times have to do a solo filming like this; carrying another camera body mounted on a tripod around, constantly have to walk back to retrive the cam and worrying about it getting snatched while you are not looking at it.

    • @DylanBlackburn
      @DylanBlackburn  2 роки тому

      Haha good question! I shot this between 5:45 AM and 7:30 AM. I’ve tried to film videos like this during the evening but there’s too many people out in the city so I get up and film when no one is out! Plus it was a Saturday morning so many people were sleeping in. There was definitely other people around when I was filming but not too many.

  • @imSoNotDavid
    @imSoNotDavid Рік тому

    Firstly, I'm just shocked that you can have a city with almost no one around. The freedom to shoot, very jealous. Secondly, you make the argument so strong to sell my a74 to get a a7c and get an extra lens with the money saved. One day I'll do it, deep down losing the megapixel and 10bit video isn't the end of the world. But thanks for showing me the side that is true, more compact does make you carry your camera more

    “Primes are better than zooms”, at 6:04 in his video “kinda wish I had the wide angle on.. (but too lazy to switch lenses)”… given most of your photography wouldn’t benefit a ton from 1.4 - 1.8 apertures.. I honestly think you’d be better off with a lightweight 24-70 or 16-35 (f4-56.. no need for 2.8), you basically disprove your thesis in the same video attempting to present your thesis :)

    • @DylanBlackburn
      @DylanBlackburn  2 роки тому +2

      I appreciate your comment! You have a point regarding 6:04 but this was a very rare scenario where I actually have my camera bag with me while out shooting so it was hard to resist! Typically I leave my camera bag at home or in my vehicle. As for the aperture, I mentioned in the video that the aperture isn’t the point of using prime lenses, but the small size and portability. I do own the Sigma 28-70, which is the best compact EDC zoom for the A7C since it’s not much larger than the 35mm GM, but unless I’m photographing an event, I avoid using it. I won’t lie, I would love to pick up the 16-35 PZ that just came out! That internal zoom is niceee.

      @zacharypump5910 2 роки тому +1

      @@DylanBlackburn Thanks for the reply! I was probably more "troll-like" in my comment than intended. I can't disagree with the size and ergonomics of primes as an advantage, especially f1.8 ones that are especially small with decent sharpness. I guess in my case its just rare that it's a tradeoff I'm willing to make (because it's usually for travel or other situations where I can't afford to bring just ONE focal length, and definitely can't swap lenses constantly)
