Hanging Out in Huatulco

Last fall flew in and out of Huatulco on a trip to spend a few nights at Zipolite and then a week in Oaxaca (city) for Day of the Dead. I finished the trip by spending a couple of nights in Huatulco. I stayed in La Crucecita, which was very pleasant, and one afternoon at the beach at Santa Cruz. I liked La Crucecita, and if I can get a cheap flight again, I can see myself spending a relaxing week in the area.
A couple things of interest for anyone visiting Huatulco. The area where you arrive at the pier is Santa Cruz, not really viewed as "downtown". The real downtown area would be La Crucecita which is about a 5-minute cab ride away, and lots more to see on a walking tour. Prices are a little lower away from the beach as well. If you want to walk there, you can travel up "5th Avenue" which is visible behind you at around the 11:33 mark and if you take your time is about a 30-40 minute walk. If you want to take a cab, the rates are controlled and posted. So a cab ride from Santa Cruz to La Crucecita will cost 35 pesos, if you make it 50 pesos with a tip that's about $3 USD or $4 CDN.

Huatulco has many areas to see! You are in Santa Cruz, which is only one area! Crucecita is down a walkway to the town with many shops & restaurants, many other beaches & areas to see other than filmed here!

Depending on your prospective on what close is, huatulco is closer to Acapulco , Chiapas is closer to Guatemala then Oaxaca.
